  1. V7, This maybe a completely numpty thought, but given the volume of oil that is being ejected, could it just be that the baffle plate and foam is simply not allowing the oil pumped in by the scavenge pump to drain quickly enough back into the tank? This would then fill up the conning tower reasonably quickly and squirt a lot of oil out into the catch tank? SteveP The Caterham Pages here
  2. I did exactly as Nick suggests, and can be seen here SteveP The Caterham Pages here
  3. OK, no problem - thanks for letting me know, and no 'fraid I don't have any relatives with that name Any other takers for the speakers? SteveP The Caterham Pages here Edited by - SteveP on 9 Feb 2005 09:10:24
  4. Yes, it is the set that you refer to. The only difference being that it comes in a plain OEM type cardboard box rather than a liveried Creative box (outer box is Creative branded however) Anchor was OK - haven't been to a meet for a few months so felt a bit 'out of it'. Good alternative to the Kings Arms. SteveP The Caterham Pages here
  5. Burt1969, you have 1st dibs and mail SteveP The Caterham Pages here

  7. They came with my new PC and I don't need them (already have a 5.1 setup). Brand new, boxed, package only opened to verify contents. 7 satellite speakers and subwoofer, remote (corded) volume control and all cables need to hook up to a PC. Can be seen here £50, collect from Nottingham area or shipping at cost (note, package is quite heavy though) SteveP The Caterham Pages here
  8. Guy, I just used the regular bolt when I fitted mine. Nyloc seemed to be on far enough to do the job SteveP The Caterham Pages here
  9. Get a tax disc holder that has a removable face and then you can leave it on the windscreen bolt permanently? That's what I have (see link below for pics and details) SteveP The Caterham Pages here
  10. Plenty on this if you look in the archives, but FWIW I tend to ignore the dipstick that's in the cap on top of the swirl tower (the plastic indicator on the end of the dipstick is the same colour as the oil and makes it almost impossible to see especially if you've got a tank of fresh oil) Following advice on here, I made up another dipstick from thin alloy bar (B&Q) long enough to go all the way to the bottom of the dry sump tank with marks on it at 9.5, 10 and 10.5 inches from the bottom. Run the engine, get the oil warm, switch off and immediately measure the oil depth - each engine will differ, but mine runs happily with a 10 to 10.5" depth of oil and none being thrown to the catch tank. Make sure you get the stick all the way to the bottom, there are one or two projections in the tank. No point doing this on a cold engine or one that has been sat for a while as some oil with naturally drain back to the sump pan and give a false reading. As for refilling, just pour oil into the tank via the swirl tower. If you do drain the oil, never refill the engine via the yellow screw cap in the cam cover - when you start there will be a delay before oil pressure is established (due to the fact that all the oil will be in the sump and it takes time for the scavenge pump to suck it all out) and no oil will be supplied to the engine = ouch ☹️ Hope this helps SteveP The Caterham Pages here
  11. I believe that the R300 is based on the EU2 engine. Same goes for the Supersport R upgrade too I think, but might be wrong on that one. SteveP The Caterham Pages here

  14. Got mine from Demon Tweeks (at Autosport International so no postage cost ). Yes, it does come with twin inlets (on left or right hand side, your choice) but no blanking plug. Demon Tweeks couldn't (or wouldn't) supply an appropriate plug, I got mine from Think Auto but in the end didn't use it after all. SteveP The Caterham Pages here
  15. Think Automotive? Do a very nice ally tank that I've got fitted to my car. See my website below for more info. Not particularly cheap though, depends a little on your budget. SteveP The Caterham Pages here
  16. Don't run an aero on my R300, but for reference only I managed 104mph down the pit straight at Silverstone according to my bike computer. I also have a 3.62 diff and 185/60 13" rims. SteveP The Caterham Pages here
  17. Thanks Geoff and in that case I'm setting off now 😬 SteveP
  18. Will they be available for use on tomorrow's trackday? Given the current weather forecast, we are sure gonna need them. SteveP
  19. Yep, my injectors all make a noise, like a tappet as you say. Has done it since new so not unduly concerned (now at 4000 miles) SteveP
  20. Thanks for that. Being behind the number plate, I can't really get at it to get the bulk off at least without trashing the paint job, same goes for the thinners as there is a lot of this stuff holding on the plate (not down to me, I'll add at this point ) Any safe® solution? SteveP
  21. My front number plate is stuck onto the nose cone using the same stuff that the factory use to glue the front wings to the stays with. Trouble is, I clobbered a cone at Elvington yesterday and have cracked the plate quite badly. So, is there an easy way to get this black gunk off? A special solvent or something? Thanks SteveP
  22. Peter, Wish I'd know you were selling this - I'd have had it off you. Ah well, if the sale falls through let me know. Cheers SteveP
  23. Tim, One question, why? ☹️ (email me offline if you prefer) SteveP
  24. Not sure exactly when the nose cones changed profile, but I had an 1989 Caterham and you couldn't straight swap a 7 grille for the normal one as the 'prongs' that go into the nose on the non 7 grille were at 90 degress to the grille whereas on the 7 grille they were flat (if that makes sense) Worth a check before you buy one is all I am suggesting and no doubt you could make it fit if necessary SteveP
  25. Franky, When dipping the belltank with a metal rod, make sure you are going all the way to the bottom. There are one or two projections in the tank which may be giving a false reading. For reference, my tank (R300) runs at about 9.5 to 10" oil depth very consistently. SteveP
