  1. PlastererPete, I have just fitted these LED sidelights. I chose them because they give a bright white light without the blue tinge and the LEDs are within a glass bulb so not exposed. Time will tell… https://amzn.eu/d/1dDSw3q
  2. I must admit I am undecided when it comes to upgrading the headlights to LED. I only want legal, so that rules out fitting LED bulbs into the existing lights. My main concern with changing the units for LED is if one failed a long way away from home on a multi-day trip I can’t do a simple bulb swap. I know that LEDs last much longer but I have had both LED sidelights fail (Classic Car LEDs) and a rear light LED when I had those. Maybe it’s the vibration or damp or something?
  3. The drop links are adjustable in length and I wondered where there was any guidance about how to set the correct length? Strangely on my factory built car the N/S is set longer than the O/S. I have read somewhere they should each be set as short as possible. Any thoughts?
  4. Thank you for the pointers. I just pick up the URL by clicking on it like this. I was looking for a way inside the club website. I will try the Follow suggestion.
  5. Something I would find useful would be a Save or Add to Favourites function for the Blat Chat. I often email a link to myself or take a screenshot of technical pages that I may want to refer back to in the future. It would save a lot of time searching. Apologies if this has been requested or covered before.

    Rust!

I would agree with Stu’s summary of the situation. Take a look at the 7 and make your own mind up. There are lots of vulnerable areas that would be prone to corrosion if it was stored in the damp or subjected to road salt especially without any additional rust proofing. Having said that I could scratch the paint of a new set of seat runners with my finger nail so I don’t think that is good enough.
  7. I don’t know the answer - just somethings check. 👍 Closeups of the number idents. The CC ones are stolen from the BC Rust thread.
  8. They look the same and the markings are almost identical. Just a thought, car headlights are designated LHD or RHD, I wonder what a single light scooter would be?
  9. Sorry I don’t know the number but they should last the life of the engine. K&N recommend cleaning and re-oiling every 50k miles.

    Rust!

New replacement lights I expect at £617 each plus fitting https://caterhamparts.co.uk/headlights/5675-headlight-black-led-lhd-cars-53-4-diameter.html
  11. I think (please check if you are interested) this is the same as the Caterham part. https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/334784099661?mkcid=16&mkevt=1&mkrid=711-127632-2357-0&ssspo=Jm3zt573R3i&sssrc=4429486&ssuid=N1mAWR0DS2q&var=&widget_ver=artemis&media=COPY
  12. Wonderful attention to detail, James. It will be a superb engine.
  13. I haven’t noticed it do any harm to gauge. Perhaps the heat from the little lighting bulbs helps them clear.
  14. I tried using my previous Google search technique which failed to produce a decent result. I searched on heater control extend. It seemed to work better before. See attached
  15. Here is a test for fun and a ‘real life’ type of search I might do. There have been several posts over the years about extending the heater control to make it easier to reach. Best technique to find it? 😀

    First Track Day

Same here. I prefer to drive the 7 to and from track days. It is all part of the experience and the day for me. For circuits further away I really enjoy blatting over the day before and camping over.
  17. In case you haven’t spotted this one. Nothing to do with me.
  18. Interesting topic. Does the actual engine itself get hotter (due to the lack of heat dissipation) or is it cooler by insulating the headers? Even with a well insulated engine bay I am surprised by how much heat comes into the cockpit. It’s a bit much in the summer but I am glad of it in the winter!
  19. The Banner is 8kg and 30Ah. The Varley is 5.5kg and 15Ah.
  20. When washing the car I spray the side screens with a waterless wash detailer to help with grime slide off then wash them first before risk of grit on the wash mitt. It seems to have kept the scratch-free.
  21. Is a 2018 car likely to be carbon or sintered plate?
  22. I agree, James “killing it through kindness”. I set this up when I had a stubborn dynamo problem which I later resolved. I very rarely need to use it these days.
  23. I bought this 10W panel and it is superb. Sadly it seems to have doubled in price! I use it with a lorry size battery and it keeps it topped up with ease. I think 5W would be enough for a Caterham or even a normal car size battery.
  24. Couldn’t agree more. I only had a cam belt changed at PP (although there is a lot to remove so not to be underestimated) and it was a joy to watch them working on the car. Such care and attention from all the staff.
