  1. Looks like you may get mole grips on the end of that. If not, you have good access so I'd try a left handed drill. If that doesn't work you will still have a stub to weld to try tapping it round with a punch first though.....
  2. I have a new unpainted set (but in France )
  3. No idea of the frequency range Paul.......
  4. A tap on the motor with a hammer sometimes helps
  5. Yes so did I till I felt the need for another tool.... it worked fine for me also
  6. I hear what you're saying Andrew.... when the cam belt on a vx is installed and if you don't have the correct tensioning tool then Haynes advise that You should increase the tension so that you can just twist the belt through 90 degrees using just thumb and forefinger at the centre point of the longest run (that is from the exhaust cam to the crank pulley).applying tension makes the belt harder and harder to twist because tension is being applied to the belt. If the tension is increasing at this point then I'd guess that the frequency of the belt twang would also be increasing. This is also the point at which you check belt tension with my snap on timing belt tension setting tool. This should be the same regardless of engine type I would have thought a bit of a head scratcher....
  7. Perhaps it's only effective on auxiliary belts?
  8. Out of boredom I just watched a you tube video on changing the timing belts on a Ferrari 355. When it came to tensioning the auxiliary belts (alternator, ac etc) there is a special tool that Ferrari use to measure the tension. The tool was expensive and so when the job was complete and the belts tensioned correctly, he used a free app from Gates which measures frequency on specialised bike drives to record the frequency of a correctly tensioned Ferrari belt. This can then be used by any Ferrari owner rather than them having to buy the special tool. It’s simple to use, you just twang the belt like a guitar string and the App shows the frequency. I see no reason why this can’t be used on any engine with manual belt tensioning provided the correct frequency has been published by a kind user. Useful if you don’t have a belt tension measuring tool perhaps. When I am next to my spare engine, I’ll do some back to back comparisons on my VX timing belt and publish the frequency target if it works..
  9. Both tracks are ok for novices but the layout of Mallory is very easy to remember. Getting the geography right is important when you're just starting out. You can then focus a bit more on rear view mirrors and lines instead of wondering where the track goes... As an aside, my first trackday was at Donington and I completely failed to note the track exit position. I was then forced to stay out more laps than I wanted to until I found the way out. It's simple things like this that add to the stress of the first on track experience. I have now driven nearly 60 different circuits in the UK/Europe?USA and know the exit points of all
  10. You can also wire in a manual fan override switch enabling you to switch it on if you're feeling nervous

    Back on Track 2021

Being pedantic, you can attend a track day but only to socialise. Standard roll over bars aren't accepted on track
  12. In a normal year there are usually occasions where a small group of Sevens hire a sprint venue for the day for testing/playtime mid week (Curborough for instance). That would give you plenty of time in the seat and the ability to get a feel for the ambiance of a real sprint meeting. Keep an eye on Blatchat
  13. Doesn't sound too much to me Paul . Standard Sierra diffs are becoming difficult to find now
  14. Ahh, the ring gear ... Although crown describes it well
  15. If it's similar to the 2:00 xe engine start with changing the o ring (easy& cheap) then if that doesn't work, the whole unit
  16. If after 3 tries you're still getting leakage You either damaged them putting them in (unlikely) Or as Elie says you may have damage on the camshaft or in the housing. If neither of those, are you absolutely sure that it's the seal that is leaking and not oil tracking down from somewhere else?
  17. I made up these and use £7.00 bathroom scales. The reading is multiplied by two to account for the leverage. I was concerned that the sideways thrust on the front suspension might jam the scale but it proved ok in practice. The tyre sits on a pivoting plate of a known distance to the scale contact point

Has your wife tried to get into an Elise?
  20. Assuming you're not locking the rears in the first place (which I was)....
  21. When I fitted big brakes many years ago and changed to Mintex 1144 pads all round, I found that the rears locked up even more than with standard fronts. I deduced that the weight transfer to the front was unloading the rears and causing this.
  22. From my notes: Valeo - part number 432836 I have a small nippon denso alternator fitted which has proved to be a lot more reliable. It does require a different front mounting strap and modifications to the wiring loom.and has a much smaller output (which is fine for my use) At one stage I fitted a Thoroughbred alternator which appeared to be a Motolec A460 (with 24313 stamped on side), so that may be an option also
  23. Fingers crossed for you ....
