  1. Chris, In my limited knowledge the standard boss and caterham quick release boss have the same spacing. However if there is going to be any incompatability I think it would be at the boss. Andy
  2. they should be a straight swap but it will depend on the steering wheel drilling's for the bosses.
  3. Bad news Dave, Hope you get it fixed, if you need a spare hose to get you up and running until the laminova is fixed give me a call. Andy
  4. The longest hose connects to the connection closest to the engine (and goes to the top of the apollo. Andy
  5. Steve, After being given a few pointers from others I found mine under the dash it was a bit of a hunt though. Its Yellow Black and folded back on itself and then tiwrapped into the middle of the thick loom behind the gauges. The good thing is from those that have hunted before they are all found in a similar place. I cut off the existing four or five tiwraps behind the oil and water gauges going back toward the right (rev counter) and teased the loom apart and there it was. Replaced the tiwraps and I was sorted, took about an hour though and not very comfortable a good torch inspection light is a must ❗
  6. Normally these are fitted before you fit the cam carrier, although I think you can replace them in situ. This would involve getting the old one out being careful not to damage the head and the cam else you may damage/score the parts the seal sits against and never cure the leak. You then need the correct seal they have sprial flutes that encorage the oil to stay the right side of the seal. Fitting of the new seal is easy, push fit over the cam and make sure fully home with a suitable diameter socket. Andy
  7. 2000 build manual says yes between bolt head and mount.
  8. Welcome to blatchat. As your post implies that the oil temp seems correct I would try a new water temperature sender first. These are notorious for failure, you can also check what temp the stat opens 80-82° and the fan turns on 90-100° and check the guage reading. Andy
  9. I saw one of these at John Lewis the other weekend, great TV's unfortunatly SWMBO has other plans for our money
  10. Thanks all Richard, Was your wire in tha car loom or the engine loom? There are no spare wires in the engine loom on mine and I don't recall seeing any spare elsewhere! Andy
  11. I have fitted a secondhand apollo tank and need to order a length of wire to go from the apollo to the switch on the dash. I would like to stick to the standard Caterham colouring. Could someone check what the colour and thickness of wire is used in the Caterham factory setup. Cheers Andy
  12. When I watched Arch replace my back panel they used any oxy-acetylene torch to gently heat the aluminium then ironed the curves with a piece of steel shaped to fit round the finished radius. When it came to joining the panels they welded on the surface then ground away the excess ridge with a file then an emery disk, they slid a piece of thin metal between the skin and the chassis before welding and removed it after finishing. Well done on what you have achieved so far. Andy
  13. If anyone else needs the part its a male to male bulkhead fitting 1/8 BSPx3/8 UNF with a 3/8 UNF nut.
  14. if you do take the water rail off fit a new gasket, I have never had one successfully seal when reusing. Andy
  15. Battery, posts and delivery was about £78 +vat can't remember the actual price. they also do a new mounting box £20 + vat I need to work out if this will fit though. Ring Ed Roller 01934 643000 he will confirm. Andy
  16. The literature states service life of 3-10 years rather than 1 to 5 years of a normal battery so I guess you can work on roughly twice as long as a Banner lasts. At least that's what I am hoping for. Andy
  17. Thanks all, Odyssey PC680 ordered. Fast friendly service from Ed Roller and a decent discount for L7C members, making it not that much more than a standard banner . Andy
  18. Looks like a call to Powervamp then, can you tell me 1) What are the optional post like, do they replicate the banner posts. 2) Will I need one of their charges or will my existing Optimate or Race Technology trickle chargers do the job. Cheers Andy Edited by - Andy Best on 29 May 2007 13:24:22
  19. I think I need a new battery, following the installation of a new engine the car won't start unless I use an additional external battery ☹️. As the Banner is currently three years old it may be just below par but I am wondering what the choices are and will they work . I would rather avoid having to get a new starter at present but am unsure if a single battery will ever give enough cranking volts/power. Choices so ar New Banner Powervamp with club discount Oddessey 545 I am hoping the wisdom out in BlatChat land can help. Andy
  20. On my 97 car the two thick brown go to the +Ve battery terminal. The starter needs two wires the thick red goes to the bigger of the two starter posts. The other wire to the starter is not brown on my car but that could have changed with age it is heat proof though and attaches to the smaller of the two starter posts. The black wire will go to the battery -ve. Yes the little black box goes to the plenum, well the throttle body to be exact. Andy
  21. Fully charged battery and a jump from the tin top did the trick, the existing banner battery is just not giving enough power to get the engine going. 😬 Just need the shocks back from thier rebuild and I will be back on the road again Thanks for the help everyone Andy
  22. I will double check the terminals the battery volts drop to 6-7 when cranking suggesting an electrical issue somewhere. Stu could well borrow that starter later and maybe a new battery on Tuesday. Andy
  23. using your settings an calculating back will help work out what settings you need. ie if you're 10% out change the existing pulse count by 10%. I think the caterham uses 4 pulses per revolution of the prop shaft.
  24. I have gone from a 1.6 SS to a VHPD built by DVA . It's all in now but I've not been able to start it. The starter spinned the engine up to oil pressure without the plugs but with them in the engine doesn't turn over quickly enough to start. I've put the battery on charge to see if that helps but as it's now three years old I was thinking it might need a new one other threads suggest I should just go for a new starter, I don't want to go spending a load of money on unnecessary parts though so does anyone know how to check if its the starter or battery at fault. A the terminals have been cleaned and checked for security. When it comes to a choice of starters looking at the CC web site they only show this option here Is this what has previously been referred to as the race version? Does anyone know the Brise starter part number and is it worth the extra cash and will anyone have then in stock? Thanks Andy Edited by - Andy Best on 27 May 2007 19:48:04
