  1. A mate of mines got a set I think he wants to sell. If your still after a set drop me an email and I will let him know. Andy
  2. For the number plate get some 3m industrial velcro, I dont know exactly what the name is but I've used it on my plates. It's so strong the car moves when you pull the plate off. This way you can easily remove the plate if needed. Andy
  3. Arnie, If you have got a set to sell I would be interested. Are they Caterham or CCC and is the rubber strip included? Andy
  4. Hi, I use an Optimate on the Bike, have had it for 6 years still works fine. I use a Race Technology one for the seven. I have the fly leads attached on both vehicles, the Sevens as Chris has done but I've not vetured to a socket in the dash I just tuck the lead away when I drive. As to performance of the two chargers they both seem to do the same everyday job, no complaints. I have recharged a car battery from not even a glimmer to carry on for another two years with the Optimate but never tried it with the Race Technology charger. The Optimate seems better made and does as it claims so it's handy to have around, on balance if you can justify the extra money thats the one I would buy. Andy

    Bonnet stripe

Buda, You wernt out at lunch with your nose close to that white bonnet stripe were you? If by chance you were enquiring whether the bonnet/nose stripe is painted or not, mine is painted, but then it's a nice yellow one so yours may be different. Andy
  6. Not much help Ian, but as a lad a mate of my Dads restored a car in his living room. He brought each piece inside as it was ready to be put back together. The house had some nice new patio doors installed when the car was ready for the road again. Still makes me smile when I think about it ... Oh and hes still married to the same girl. 9. Swapped mine just before Christmas used the Peter C method of removal - it's not as bad as it seems, the bush came out without too much persuasion and with no damage. Andy

    SPA mirrors

Andy I've got some, they are far better than the originals. I bought them from Demon Tweeks, convex race variety 27.95GBP each plus VAT for the plastic version, CF type were about double in price and not that well finished IMHO. I took the centre windscreen screw out fitted the mirrors through their top mounting hole with the allen bolt supplied, which seems to fit OK. I was going to drill and tap the pillar for the lower one but wanted to try out the position first without making extra holes, they're so firm I've not got round to finishing the job yet. Mounting this way means you can: 1)Drive with the doors off and keep the mirrors. 2)Fold the doors and put then in the boot, just incase you get wimpy in winter. 3)Get no vibration in the mirrors and can actually see what’s behind. Those who know me will confirm I am not supple nor practice yoga and suggest I would be better of with an SV. I can get in and out easily with the hood up and doors on even though I can't fold the doors back. I found that you need to almost over tighten the allen screw that is at the back of the mount otherwise it gradually comes loose, which is annoying. Andy
  11. Could you send me a copy too please - I've had similar problems to you reading the build manual copy. Andy

    Engine oil

Thanks for the info Len, looks like a trip to Halfords tomorrow. Andy

    Engine oil

Just to add to the debate, I was in Halfords at the weekend. They were promoting Halfords brand fully synthetic oil @25% off, making it about £18 for 5 litres IIRC. Does anybody know if you can trust Halfords oil in your beloved Seven. It did cross my mind that it might originally come from the same source and you don't have to cross the channel to get the bargin TF saving the cost of the ferry! Andy
  14. Hi I think james Whiting does them in chrome or Black www.jameswhiting.co.uk Just beware he adds vat to the website prices, it caught me out in the past. Andy
  15. Buda as you know my cars similar spec to yours and I'm thinking of a similar upgrade route. I figure that the starting point is the Emerald 32 bit ECU, does anybody have experince of or can recommend a distributor in the North West. It would also be good if there's someone to show/teach how to set these things up - anybody good at night classes? Andy
  16. Roy, Thanks for reply, I think I will leave the diff alone - a little more work/involvement than I want to undertake at the moment. Andy
  17. I may be interested for a 1997 k series de-dion, can you tell me if it would be just a case of old diff out new one in. ie does the new one come with the casing in the de-dion version or will I have to take the diff apart and put the new gears etc in? If it is the latter what would the likely cost be of getting it fitted professionally? Andy
  18. I've been investigating a rattle/noise to the right side of the dash and found that there's a multiplug with about 5/6 wires in it that was down behind the drivers knee pad. My car is a 1.6K 1997, I've never noticed it before but it's not joined to anything at the moment. What is it for and should it be plugged in somewhere. BTW all electrical systems seem to function as required so I'm a bit puzzeled. Andy
  19. Could be interested in the Seat Belts if they are still for sale. Could you advise price and confirm if they are complete including bolts etc. Andy
  20. After many years lusting I have finally bought a Seven, the car is all I expected with one exception, the instruments. I have just been out in the dark, with the Caterham logo ones you really have to struggled to see them - VDO gauges I have seen in other cars seem so much clearer, does anybody know if it is possible to fit brighter bulbs or failing that where can you buy VDO gauges that are a straight replacement for existing Caterham ones. My car is a 1997 1.6K with a five speed box. Andy
