  1. The tubes you recommended Stu arrived this morning - fit like a glove and even the bendy bit I was worried about, wasn't an issue. Thanks for your help - much appreciated. Nick
  2. Always loved the look of the Espirit - GT3 is definitely appealing! I think it's because 'The Spy Who Loved Me' was the first film I was taken to see at the cinema... the Espirit or 1970s Barbara Bach? That a tough one!
  3. Morning Stu Thanks for your response - I did wonder if eBay was the route to go! I'm just looking to replace the ones directly above the TBs as they've started to crack - car is 21 years old this month, so hardly surprising I guess! The one I'm most worried about is the one at the very end which has a bend in it - I'm not sure if you can just bend a straight piece of pipe? Maybe modern silicon pipes would allow this? Cheers Nick
  4. I would ask DVA Power (Dave Andrews) - he's bound to know.
  5. Hi folks, Does anyone know where I can source some new vacuum tubes that sit on top of the KV6 TBs found on the early VHPD engines? Or if you don't know where I can, the actual diameter of the pipes would be helpful as one would hope they're not such a obscure item that they need to be bought from a Caterham specialist! I've tried Redline - no joy there sadly. Pic showing offending items - borrowed from the excellent 'K Engine Page' - thanks 'Oily' - hope you don't mind?
  6. John - I just used a very cheap, very small screw driver and eventually it did the job. I'm a fully signed up member of the 'if you can't do it, walk away and try another day' club... this approach tends to work for me!
  7. Thanks all for your help & suggestions - I succeeded in the end!
  8. Thanks John - that's kind of what I thought would happen... but hasn't up until now! I walked away from it yesterday, so hoping a fresh pair of eyes and hands might make it work tonight...!!
  9. Hi folks, I'm removing the side repeater indicators from my cycle wings and am really struggling to remove the wiring that goes into the black connector box that lives between the rad & the front of the engine. I've split the black box into it's two parts and removed the yellow insert from one side - that was easy, but I'm really struggling to remove the long thin connector from the black box! I've wiggled it up and down while gently pushing the wire from the other side and inserted slim picks etc, but it ain't budging! The annoying thing is , I have removed these before when re-fitting the original headlamp brackets etc, but I cannot do it this time. Can anyone provide any advice please - at my whits end, but determined not to be defeated! Thanks Edited - pic now attached. The offending connector is top centre, but they all look the same.
  10. Driving on the A339 past Kingsclere on Saturday early afternoon - I was coming out of Kingsclere on the staggered crossroads - nice day for it!
  11. 2000 Superlight R - Carbon nose, although I don't know if it's the original as supplied. Mine has no lower fixings, but the bottom of the nose cone has an S shaped curve that rests on top of the bottom cross-member. I then have 2 Dzus fasteners at the top (one either side next to front of bonnet) that tightens the nose cone to the body.
  12. Thanks both. Do Caterham not sell a fixing kit for front wings now? Are all modern 7s sold with bonded front wings? Ian - don't suppose you know the sizes of the dome head bolts and grommet do you? Also was your source Ebay?
  13. Hi folks, Thinking of fitting some unpainted carbon front cycle wings to my 7, however I can't seem to find an appropriate fitting kit or hardware kit on the Caterham Online Store. I'm keen to use the traditional bolts as fitted when the car was built, not to go down the bonding route - could I perhaps use existing bolts? I guess Chris at Redline will be worth a call to see if he has the correct kit. Finally any hints or tips you have for fitting new cycle wings to existing stays would be good to read. Thanks, Nick
  14. I too had starting issues with my old Brise 'AX' starter fitted to my 7 - thought it was going to be a useful upgrade, but I quickly removed it again... IIRC correctly, on starting the Emerald kept tripping out - the car was always a pig to start from cold, but I just thought it was the car being difficult. It was only when a friend mechanic who knows 7s, pointed out to me that on cranking the Emerald kept clicking out - you could hear it, although I hadn't really noticed it before. Anyway, cutting a long story short, I did a bit of research online and found some articles stating the problems some Brise starters cause with 7s. Thankfully I had kept my original Magnetron starter which I refitted tout suite and all the problems went away! I don't begin to understand what was causing the issue, only glad it went away. Also made me realise why the second-hand Brise starter I had bought was in such good condition - I suspect the previous owner had the same issues I experienced.
  15. Time flies by when you're a driver of a train, speeding out of Trumpton with a coachload of cocaine... Ah sorry, those were the lyrics of Half Man, Half Biscuit!
  16. You forgot to mention it is dry sumped... surely worth mentioning?!!!
  17. ... oh and also use a genuine OEM Rover oil filter LPW100181...again available from EBay.
  18. Welcome to SLR ownership! 5w50 oil available on EBay and Amazon etc. Is yours dry sumped?
  19. ... in torrential rain & high winds - RESPECT!! Green with central yellow stripe from nose to tail and full hood fitted.
  20. Hey Alex good to see you out in Superlight R #82!!! Must organise another blat some time soon.
  21. Oily - yes of course. I'll pm you my email address. Nick
  22. Stu - thanks. Yes, I did see this - I think size 0 is no longer made, but I'm sure a solution is out there! PS - Any chance of getting an updated pic of my SLR uploaded on your Caterham registration web site?!

  24. I bought a size 0 example for about £2 but it has lost the hide end! Following with interest as I would love a cost effective replacement part.
