  1. I must admit, I am surprised that the bubbling started so quickly.. I thought it might last about 18 months or so - not 2 months! To be fair, it might be something else which is causing the bubbling - until the area is stripped I can't be sure. I did see the car mid-way through the repair and it appeared to have been treated with something sprayed on to cure the affected area of corrosion etc. The bodyshop is well respected, so I'm pretty sure they didn't do a cheap 'bodge-job'.
  2. I had a similar problem with my 94 SuperSport - bubbles and powdering alloy etc. Took it to a respected local bodyshop this summer and had the car repainted at the holes treated, refilled and resprayed - looked lovely. This was in August 2013. Putting the car to bed for winter at the end of October and what do I see, bubbles again in the same place - aaahhhhh!!! Spoke to bodyshop who were very good and said just bring it back in, in the Spring and we'll sort it. This I will do, but I wonder how long it will last. My car leads a fairly cosseted life - in as much that it isn't driven in the rain and I like to keep it clean & polished. I suspect that panel replacement is the only real way of fixing this issue, but I'm not going down the expense and hassle of that.

That would be great Jack. I should be able to get to you for the w/e 19/20th if that works for you? You are only about 30 miles from Newbury, so only a quick hop for me! Thanks again! N.

Hi Jack, That would be very helpful - thank you. It should be 2 seats - at least that is what I think I have bought! I take it Caterham 21 seats will fit a standard S3 chassis???? Thanks Nick

  7. So, all fixed with relative ease... in the end I had the disconnect the lower steering column from the universal joint and the whole steering column just pulled through the dash with little effort. Racetech were brilliant - offered my g/f and I a cuppa while they sorted out a new QR boss... approx. 16 attempts later and I now have a shiny new gold QR boss attached to my new steering wheel. All now connected up and car has been MoT'd - only downside is the wheel is slightly off centre but the garage reckon that can 'track that up' for me.
  8. I'm sure there was an article about this with pictures in Low Flying a few years ago - I'll see if I can dig something out for you...
  9. It is indeed a Caterham fit column/wheel as it is listed in my service book as an upgrade item. I was quite surprised as I thought it would be a straightforward replacement purchase from Racetech, but they seemed to think it would have to be matched due to engineering tolerances... So with the keys in the ignition and un-clamping the two steering column pieces, it should be a "straightforward" removal? Steering column aside, my concern is there is nothing else to hold to assist the removal... Is there anything else I should be un-doing etc? If that doesn't work, I might just try the photo approach you suggest...
  10. Hi all, I need to remove my upper steering column without having a steering wheel in place (I lost it...long embarrassing story 😳). Reading a few past threads about trying to do this, all reference having a steering wheel in place to facilitate this. Clearly this is a bit of a problem for me! So, am I right in thinking that if tonight I just remove the clamp that holds the upper & lower columns together, removal of the upper column is going to be very unlikely? Why am I trying to do this? I have bought a new steering wheel, but Racetech have said they need to see my steering column in order to match a Q/R boss... aggghhh!!!
