  1. Well, you probably don't want to do this, but my fathers 1926 Austin 12/4 and his Bean had brass opening vents in the footwell which scoop in the air from outside, it would solve all the problem but................
  2. Hi Steve If there is no crack then you dont need the glass matting. Presumably you have star cracks in the gel coat. I would dig these out/widen them so the filler has somewhere to go and something to grip, then use a filler like Isopon P38. Preparation is the key before paintng so lots of sanding etc before you get it right, no doubt, then undercoats & finally top coats, you might well want to do whole wing to get it blended OK. Good luck
  3. I have option 3 Dunnell on 45 's on my 1.8 Silvertop which is givving me 210 brake more than 350/tonne, these Zetec's dont wear much and with the option 3 you pretty much get a new top end. Haven't modified chassis but have put aftermarket diff from Jigsaw in the Ital
  4. I understand that there may have been changes to MSA regulations on Roll Cage for hill climbs and sprints in 2017. I have an RAC MSA FIA roll bar HOM 0966 with forward petty strut. I am finding the regulations really difficult to understand in this area. Can anyone tell me if I am still OK ? Thanks
  5. Don't chicken out it is relatively easy and safe as long as you are careful and you are only going to have to pay to have it done again in a few years. With my road cars I always used to get the garage to sort and I think that was thro fear of valves hitting pistons etc. With my new cams I have had to buy a clock gauge to get the correct lift height for exhaust and inlet at TDC very tricky but again it only needed confidence and care and lots of rechecking.
  6. Hi I cut a hole in the side of my tunnel which allows me access to the right angle drive. If you are not happy about this then it is probably engine and gearbox out as my hands would be too big to go down the side even with moutings slackened off . You dont need need to remove circlip as the speedo cable just screws onto end of right angle drive just like the speedo. Nick
  7. Thanks Jonathan, sorted & yes it was the ignition feed. When I soldered the wires together I pulled a lead off the back of the ignition switch. What has been good is that I took the top off the pedal box to look aqt the brake switch and I found a frayed throttle wire which would have broken when I go up the hill in a few weeks time. Once again thanks N
  8. Hi Johnathan Just about to start again. I dont suppose you have the fuse layout for a Supersprint ? The fuses are all OK but it would be useful to know.
  9. Yes I have, and white and white with red stripe
  10. I have today cut out my problematic Maystar immobiliser and was feeling quite happy as the ignition worked and the engine started. On testing the indicators do not work, yet hazards do also brake lights do not work, it is apparent that no power is getting to the brake switch or the indicator switch, fuses OK and Relays appear OK. To get the Maystar out I had to rejoin two sets of wires, which had been looped into the Maystar, and cut out 2 wires that had been connected to the loom although not causing any breaks in the loom Any ideas ?
  11. Mine seems to stay in place without the spring, but you can always try Redline
  12. I have a 1600GT on my 68 Lotus, but with Weber 32DFM. If it is same as UK 1600 GT Timing mark is on bottom pulley a small groove on outer rim, probably groove full of muck now so go to TDC and then run finger nail across & should find it, The marks on the block about 1-2 pm above the pulley. Tappets adjusted when hot. Have you got the idle adjusted properly ? Nick
  13. Ok a new quick shift gear stick from Tiger Racing has sorted it. I reckon the Sierra stick with the quick shift kit was rubbish. Best £30 I have spent recently & they cut it to size for me
  14. Over the years I have had gear selection problems with my type 9. I have found it difficult at times to find reverse, 1st to second, 2nd to third and third to 2nd. But no grinding of gears The car has a new clutch, I have put in a new clutch cable and ensured that the clutch is disengaging. I have changed the oil to ensure I have the correct oil and have now put in yet another new saddle. Things have improved but my issue now is first to second. I understand that if it was a synchro issue then it should improve as the box warms up. It makes no difference to my box. I put in a quick shift kit a number of years ago which consisted of a thick ally plate & come other bits. Like this: http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Escort-Mk1-Mk2-Sierra-5-Speed-Type-9-Gearbox-Road-Quick-Shift-Kit-/292136885061?hash=item4404b71b45:g:GzgAAOSwPh5ZEcwL The gearstick is from a Sierra. Could it be a worn fork on the gear stick or a rubbish quick shift kit ? Any ideas would be great Nick
  15. I have just remembered problems I had when I rebuilt my Lotus Xflow 1600. Plugs kept oiling up and the engine ran like a dog. Problem was that I used the same plugs as my Supersprint 1700, as soon as I changed them the car was lovely. I can find out the correct ones if it helps Nick
  16. Great suggestion on firing order, I keep on thinking its 1342 when its 1243, it runs like a dog on 1342, but runs just about as 2 cylinders are correct. Another problem I had was the clamp on the dizzy which just would not secure the dizzy in place
  17. be careful as overtightening the nuts stops the flexibility and makes the fuel foam. My understanding is that the washers should have a gap the size of a 5 penny piece. I personally would replace gaskets and washers if you have a problem Nick
  18. I would say definitely jets or emulsion tubes, but it could be that your carbs are not fitted properly. Did you put on new flexible gaskets and nuts and had the right gap between the washers. Doing this on my 45's stopped all missing on start up. What are your jets, emulsion tubes, etc, then someone can tell you what they are running on their xflow but they are also on an older thread Nick
  19. Duckpit

    Exhausted

Try Raceline My Zetec exhaust cost less than £900 and is a beauty http://www.raceline.co.uk/products/part_section.asp?SectionID=69&CategoryID=4

    Noisy gearbox

I once put the wrong oil in my Type 9 and the noise was horrendous, put the correct oil in and it went back to being nice
  21. I meant twice on one charge
  22. I bought a really cheap Lithium on ebay it was less than£ 30 works brilliantly but will probably only start the car twice. It has even started a Freelander !!!
