  1. Oliver hi As you have had no responses, I thought I might make a suggestion. There are conrods and crankshafts for sale on ebay. You may get a response by messaging one of the sellers Cheers Nick
  2. I have 2 reversing & 2 fog, so I guess it depends on the car
  3. They are on ebay https://www.ebay.co.uk/sch/i.html?_from=R40&_trksid=p2380057.m570.l1313.TR0.TRC0.H0.Xright+angle+speedo+drive.TRS0&_nkw=right+angle+speedo+drive&_sacat=0 Nick
  4. Sorted. The voltage actually went up to 17.5V before adjusting. When adjusting down came the volts and up went the revs. I had to buy a new voltage regulator when I was restoring the Lotus and now find out that these are not plug and play like modern devices but need calibrating. I guess I am lucky that I didn't burn out any other electronics. Nick
  5. OK so I have over 16V at the battery, and when I discharge the battery the rev counter works for longer. I think that there are too many volts. Fortunately there is a good video on Youtube which shows how to adjust the voltage so I will give that a try. Unfortunately John hasn't exactly been helpful, my last response from him was just a load of ???????????????????????
  6. Oh yes, a dynamo with a separate voltage regulator, but I dont know how to sort the problem. One suggestion is that the voltage at the battery is too high, so am off to borrow a multimeter. If it is too high, can I adjust at the regulator ? Nick
  7. I have found the problem but do not know how to sort it. When I disconnect the dynamo the rev counter works fine ?? Any ideas Nick
  8. Hi Jonathan When connecting direct to the coil I did not use any of the current wiring, so wiring is not my problem. My next step is to put a diode in line to prevent any bouncing pulses and I may even try a resistor these items cost pennies, then I guess change the coil and finally the electronic gizmo. Yes I have a Sunbeam as my dry day normal use car, it rattles a bit but much nicer than than a modern tin top Nick
  9. I have had my Smiths rev counter repaired by John Ostick, but unfortunately it works for about 10 seconds and then goes to zero. John was adamant that the repair was OK & suggested I go direct to the coil and connect up. But the problem persists. As I know how good John is I thought I would give it a try on my Alpine V before I went back to John and of course it worked perfectly.!! The dizzy has electronics from Simonbcc onboard as does the Alpine I think.. Any ideas appreciated? Nick
  10. Rob The F4's made probably made the engine worse. What state of tune is your Zetec ? I think I will go back to the F16's Nick
  11. No problems with my Zetec & I can't really see how damp would get in

    Cambelt slipped?

I had the dreaded squeal last week, it turned out that the alternator tensioner bolt had sheared making the alternator & water pump belt loose- maybe you will be as lucky as i am. I did have a cam belt slip couple of years ago and the drop off in performance was appalling and the valves may have even touched the pistons, I used an endescopic camera from ebay to check the damage but thankfully it was minimal/nil and a new cambelt sorted it. Good luck

    Aldon Amethyst

Thats right save up for a megajolt, there are lots of maps about but not a standard map for the 1700 and they all have major caveats. I eventually went the Zetec route with Dunnell and they have a standard map and it works brilliantly

    Aldon Amethyst

Yup I put one on my 95 Supersprint, in retrospect it was a complete waste of time. No improvement in performance or consumption. I preferred my dizzie with the Aldon curve. There was no proven curve when I did the conversion & you had to use a rolling road, I doubt things have changed. Nick
  15. Thanks Paul, now balanced (I hope ) and No 4 responding much better to tuning Rob - My tubes are F16, I havent pushed the engine yet but there is a bit of a pick up issue at low revs but once passed 2500 it flies but I haven't yet been above 5500 & rev limits at 7700. The head & pistons etc have been modified by Dunnell and I now have there hi spec cams, reputedly 210bhp I have found a set of F4's so I will give them a go I seem to have a problem with filters, the engine runs like a dog with the spongy socks, but once off it is fine, the K&N's dont quite fit the bonnet although they also work fine, currently running with gauze across each intake Nick
  16. Thanks Rob Yup they are Spanish & 5 hole progression, I will look at the emulsion tubes, but I have a 1.8 as I want to be in a particular class. I bought them from Dunnell along with the upgrade Nick
  17. I am currently running in my upgraded Zetec for which I have new 45's. I know how to balance one carb to another but I seem to have a difference on the individual barrels on one carburettor. Is there an adjustment on the carb to balance the barrels across a single carb/ thanks
  18. Don't skimp on a helmet, not only do you only have one head but also you may at some time in the future want to do a sprint or hill climb so need one approved for MSA non race events. A HANS device is a must*biglaugh* Nick

  20. I have just sorted mine I started at the head & it didnt turn, then went to top of angle drive and that didnt turn, then the bottom of the angle drive and that didnt turn, thankfully the gearbox end did turn. It seems that the 1" connector on gearbox wasnt fitted properly. My fault again.
  21. I had my jaeger rebuilt about a year ago and the rebuild covered the electronic gadgetry that is now in my dizzy to replace points and condenser. After only a little use the needle started bouncing and then it went straight to max on turning the ignition on. I disconnected for a few months and re connected yesterday. Again it was fine for a while but now has reverted to max revs. Any ideas please ?
  22. Thanks for your offer Gary. I am hoping my Ital will last with the new CWP Nick
  23. To finish this one off. Yes I have bought an English axle, but no I dont intend to use it unless the Ital fails. After much research I spoke to Mark at Jigsaw Racing, and as I thought it is not the half shafts that fail but the CWP on the Caterham fitted axles, they do not have the weaker halfshafts that were originally fitted. I have bought a German made aftermarket 4.11 CWP and am assured that only one of these have expired in the past, due to driver hitting the wrong gear. And yes they have been used with cars with over 200 brake. If the CWP doesn't fail and the halfshafts do, then I will get the Rakeway conversion. The way I use the car make it unlikely the wheels will come off. If all fails then I have the English axle. N
  24. Cheers Paul I think it will help if I put the ball hitch back on and pull a trailer back and fro from the Impot N
