  1. Escort Axle, brace and mounting points welded on by Arch Motors. Mk1 and 2 Escort axles are the same apart from the Mk1 has imperial wheel studs. Lots of ratios available either second hand or new from Burtons in Ilford. Aluminium diff cases available from SPC in Reddich. Steve Perks used to do a complete new Ford based axle but it's not on the SPC website now. Lots of ways of fitting discs, mine are Fiesta front discs with Peugeot 106/205 rear calipers.
  2. It's likely your first laps will be in convoy behind an instructor. Be ready early, try and be first in the queue and you will see his lines, ten cars back and you wont.. After the instructor pulls off, relax and let people pass you as you feel your way round. get an instructor in your car at any opportunity. Aim to make steady improvement throughout the day without taking unnecessary risks.
  3. If they are 1kW each and with electricity at 12p/kWhr, then every four hours of operation costs £1. Assuming 8hrs a day operation it would add £180 to your quarterly bill. i don't know what the construction of your garage is but I doubt it would make much difference to the average Winter temperature.
  4. I had a Raceco silencer supplied and fitted by Mike earlier this year. This included modifying my new Raceline manifold and making a new rear silencer mount. The standard of workmanship and welding is nothing short of perfection. I had the opportunity to look at the restoration projects in the workshop, and again the attention to detail and workmanship is unbelievable.
  5. For free and impartial advice on suspension I would ring Simon at Meteor Motorsport. I'm sure he will be able to answer the questions you have raised.
  6. It seems unlikely they those wires and crocodile clips could ever supply 400 Amps!
  7. I wonder if your battery is big enough. 4000W at 12 Volts would need over 300 Amps!
  8. My Ford axle conversion uses Mk1 Fiesta front discs which I think are 220mm dia and 10mm thick, the stud pattern would need to have been re drilled of course. Another place to look would be old BL cars like the Marina which has the stud pattern you need.
  9. How do you know you haven't got nineteen sixes and only nine nines?
  10. Laminate in some plastic tubing. Tape on some quarter inch bore (or similar) plastic pipe in whatever structure you choose. Encase it in glass fibre and resin. The strength will come from the glass fibre shaped over the tube..
  11. Anybody know where the entry form can be found?
  12. Hi Les, I'm switching to ACB10s, mine is also a 1986 car. Have you made a decision on sizes? I'm thinking 7.0/21.0-13 front and 8.0/22.0-13 rear. I previously used the 215 Khumos all round, they are "tight" under the front wing stays. I'm going to leave my front at 2.5 degrees neg camber, rear is live axle and see how it goes.
  13. What sizes are people going for? Same all round or different front to back?
  14. You could fit a spacer between the steering wheel and boss. Google momo wheel spacer, lots of choice.
  15. You don't need a full cage in a road going class as I understand it.
  16. My live axle FIA bar bought from Caterham in approximately 2007 definitely had an Arch sticker.
  17. I think it will be 1B tyres to align with other championships, more than 210bhp, so class 5 for me.
  18. Excellent day and season, many thanks Paul.
  19. I intend to run an engine next year that would fit into this years class 5. i shall be competing in the both the Longton and Liverpool championships which will require 1B tyres. what makes the Lotus 7 championship viable for me is the number of aligned events, typically Aintree, Harewood, Loton, Anglesey etc. If class 5 becomes mod prod (ie out of step with the rest of the country), then the L7 championship may be a non starter for me. Nobody has produced any evidence that supports the supposed danger of 1B tyres on class 5 cars. I don't believe that our club is big enough to support classes that don't align with the rest of the country. Clearly this is a personal view from my own perspective, however I think others will be affected in a similar way if Class 5 goes mod prod.
