  1. The shaft does not have a bearing shoulder but it does shave a raised oil seal collar on the shaft. The method recommended to me was to drive the bearing home against the seal collar & shim up the gap between the outside face of the bearing & the hub. Moving the bearing 7mm further along the shaft increases the standoff between the edge of the drum & the back plate by the same amount. Olly
  2. Im a 91 live axle, but cant picture the chassis tubes you mention. Also running with alternator on drivers side & starter on passenger side with just enough clearance. Olly
  3. I can only answer question 3. On my blacktop Zetec the nose cone sits about 7mm above cam pulley. I can increase this gap but this then gives me problems with sump / road clearance. Olly
  4. Used my Xflow alternator by removing the through bolts & turning half the body to change it from left hand to right hand mounting. Raceline supplied my mounting kit & the new pulley, but needed to know the diameter of the mounting shaft. I only had 2 problems with my installation. The alternator externally mounted fan was very close to the brake union block, I fitted a slightly smaller fan giving more clearance. The drive belt supplied with the fitting kit was the wrong size, I measured the belt run with a piece of string stretched around the pulleys & got the required size from the local motor factors. Olly
  5. Nigel My zetec blacktop conversion had an adaptor so I could run a gauge & warning light. It was male 1/4 NPT for the block & female 1/8 NPT for the sender. olly
  6. Nick I used the Raceline Blacktop primaries & the original XFlow collector. To keep the silencer in exactly the same position I needed to extend the silencer inlet pipe by about 3 inches. olly
  7. Did the same but had no joy with the new formula of Nitro Mors (think is said not suitable for automotive paints on the tin) & had to acquire some professional paint stripper. Also left my rims bare aluminium rather than re laquer. olly
  8. David Have you tried ABM starters in Weymouth (01305 812331), I think they rebuild yours if its not held in stock. Olly
  9. Like Zetec I transferred mine from the crossflow to the black top, (did have to turn the body & fit a 6 rib pulley) The original alternator was supplied by Caterham invoice reads 5432836 alternator Magnetti 45AH Olly
  10. Don’t know the answer to your question , but know a couple of people have been caught out after changing from the automatic flywheel & trying to use the automatic crank position sensor to run off a manual flywheel. I think the seating shroud needs removing or adding from the CPS . Olly
  11. The sale of my 1700 crossflow as parts, more than covered the purchase price of a new zetec. Olly
  12. When I went to the bighead factory in Poole to pick mine up, they enquired what I was going to use them for & changed my order to some bigheads with a bigger gap between the loops. They were a perfect fit on my wing stays & did not require any bending / spreading. 316-B32-CABLE TYRAP-15MM (S4C) STAINLESS They recommended the bighead FS Acrylic Adhesise 25ML”A”. The 25ML gives you just enough to do both front wings if you follow the instructions. Olly
  13. The blue one made an appearance in the supercar convoy at the Wilton supercar event today, driven by the bloke that does the valuations on the channel 5 programme classic car rescue. Olly
  14. Paul Having no coolant covering the thermostat should not be a concern according to the water rail instructions from Raceline. "when the correct quantity of coolant is in the system the level falls below the thermostat housing. http://home.online.no/~sfedog/pdf/Raceline_Water_Rail1.pdf Olly
  15. Paul Is the water pump pulley being driven with the back (flat side) of the fan belt (not the multi V side). Olly
  16. From memory, remove brake disc, disconnect trunnion from the lower wishbone & the trunnion can be unscrewed from the upright (its only hand tight). Olly
  17. Or you could go for the BDA look http://bda-zetec.741.com/bdacover.html
  18. Cheers Chris I will never mention Metro engines again. unless Johnyseven makes me. Olly
  19. Hey I was only helping because I thaught you were going Zetec. I even sent you a text because I thaught you might be in your garage.
