  1. Graham & Pierre, What manual ? - Caterham haven't written one yet for the R500! Jules.
  2. I have a brand new heater unit which I removed from my R500. Anybody interested. New cost £206.00. No "sensible" offer refused Jules.
  3. I just want you guys to know that you have shamed me into getting rid of my totally unused heater on my windscreened (executive model) R500. This is of course now for sale! On a more serious note I did it because I was fed up with the oil catch tank being under the nose-cone, and not being in the least bit accessable. Instead, I have installed two catch tanks (linked together) each of which is double the capacity of the original. This means that after every track session I can top up the oil in the knowledge that any excess will simply be "spewed" out. How did you all do at Spa? I thought I did well at 2mins 52 secs, but Richard Ince did some regular 2mins 44's (on slicks mind you!).What an awesome circuit! Jules
  4. Hello Anna, I thought you'd emigrated ! How was "Le Sept" ? We had a magic two days at Spa on the Thursday/Friday, - a bit of rain in the morning and evening but at least 5 hours of dry track each day. I gather you guys had some serious rain on the Tuesday. Are you going to be at the Caterham Festival at Brands Hatch on the 19/20th? Regards, Jules

    Bottoming

Anna, Glad to see your still with us. Surely if you have sufficient "friction" then the issue of "quantity" doesn't arise. If however you have "friction" and "quantity" and of course "quality", you should be constantly smiling !!! Enjoy "Le Sept", I'm really sad I can't join you guys but I'm Ferrari'ing at Zolder & Zandvoort then Nordschleiffe, Monday to Wednesday, and picking up my R500 from Hyperion, at Spa on Wednesday night. -It won't be the same however without you ! LOL, Jules
  6. Hi Nick, Touch wood, the R500's ok at the moment, I'm just about to load it on the trailer to go to Cadwell Park on Friday. Looking forward to seeing you again soon. Regards, Jules.
  7. Nick, I was at the factory last week and I asked Len Unwin & Tim Ward the same question. Their reply was that in Caterham's experience nobody had ever had a rad. pierced. I told them this was crap because I had and they looked at my mod. (pinched from Paul Freeman),and said it looked goodv. I explained that it cost me the grand sum of £8.50 (6.25 paint spray, £2.25 mesh BUT enough for 6 Caterhams !)so why didn't they do it as standard or, at least, an option;- reply was "we'vew got to leave something for the punters to do". !!!! Jules
  8. Anna, thinking about I suppose it does seem obvious (to you!). I'm not sure which type of double wings I want, - flared or cycle ! LOL Jules
  9. Anna, So how would you know anything about mistresses ? Belated congrats on your new status ! LOL Jules.
  10. One of the first lessons of R 500 ownership is that a new magnesium sump costs in the region of £450.00 quid,- if you can get one. I should know I just broke mine on a public road taking my wife for a Sunday drink ! - My advice to any Caterham owner is err on the side of caution;- lower your car for track days and raise it for road use. Jules.
  11. James what were you doing with an Ann Summers catalogue ? (you should be reading your build manual or, are they one and the same thing?) Jules Edited by - Jules Martin on 9 Jun 2000 06:05:20
  12. Aidan, What's a "Gimp" ? Jules
  13. It's something you put over your head once all the leather & rubber gear are on ! Jules
  14. If " No Caterhams " what are you doing on this web site ? Jules
  15. Yes if you've got an early eighties HPC, - it's perfectly placed for take-aways but b****r all use for holding the car stationary ! Jules
  16. Anna, That could be read a number of ways:- Is it that you want me to come ? Or, am I not a real devotee ? Or, best of all, are you inviting me to be a real devotee and the chance to meet you "human like" ? The answer to your question is that when I get Gerard off my back from people dropping out for Spa I;'ll broach the "Le Sept" question. Of course I'ds love to come. LOL Jules
  17. Robin, Keith is absolutely right. I have only hired a trailer three times, the first I missed my ferry because the trailer company said they had one, but when I turned up to collect it, they had let it to someone else and I had to scramble around to find one. The second yime the trailer was old and ten miles up the A21 I found one of the wheels was punctured. When I took it back they tried to keep my deposit saying I had "kerbed" it,- which I had not. On the third occasion when I checked my credit card account they had charged me twice and it took 2 1/2 months to get my money back. So take heed, the money to purchase may be high but the trailer has a reesidual value and the convenience factor is paramount. Jules
  18. Paul, Anna's right of course but you must also factor in the new nose cone, cycle wings etc. ! Jules (I think I might be in trouble now !).
  19. Paul, Try offering to:- 1). Pay for it, or 2). Buy her a new frock. Jules.
  20. Thanks John, thanks Paul. I'll be at CC if I can only get hold of a human being at Easytrack ! Jules
  21. Paul (Freeman) I went to Sainsbury's Homebase but the smallest mesh sheets they had were about 1/4 inch holes. Would you be kind enough to measure yours, because I seem to remember they were about 1/8th inch in size. -I've got the black Hammerite spray paint ! Jules.
  22. Robin, I bought a brand new "Brian James" "Minno" trailer. BJ trailers are the best in the UK for car transport, and the "Minno" was specifically designed for the Caterham. It's a beautifully balanced trailer that's user friendly and easy to maintain. I used it for the trip to the Nurburgring where we were doing up to (and sometimes over),100mph and it was as steady as a rock. It cost just a tad less than £2000.00 If you live in the SE, I'm sure we could come to an amicable arrangement ! (ok Paul !!!!). Cheers, Jules
  23. At Snetterton on Saturday I twicecame in with my R 500 engine "spewing" oil all over the engine bay. This was due to the oil tower undoing itself. Has anyone else with a dry-sumped K series engine had this problem ? And, most importantly, what is the solution ? Jules
  24. Paul, me too, - it's quite depressing, what with the discoloured carbon fibre silencer as well. What's the answer ? Jules
  25. Can anyone explain why Caterham don't cut the trim to fit the bolt anyway;- ie. whether you wat to use the brace or not. When building my R500 it was one of the most irritating jobs, and so unnecessary. Jules.
