  1. James, you have BM about another potential addition to the list.
  2. My Seven has passed several MOTs with aeroscreen, side mirrors, no central mirror, and uncovered wiper spindles. The only thing they ever really comment on is the lack of side indicator repeaters.
  3. I'm interested. Thanks for organising this, James.
  4. Steve, when my good and very helpful friend Phil and I were fitting my airbox, it fouled the clutch cable. Phil wrote up the modification he made to the airbox to make it fit. We later discovered that my pedal box was slightly different to almost all the rest... Perhaps yours is similar? Mine is a 1996 car.
  5. "Aristowax Original Wood Silk"? I saw it recommended on FB and bought some for £1.50 from my local supermarket, but haven't tried it yet. http://www.sainsburys.co.uk/shop/gb/groceries/woodsilk-non-silicone-wood-furniture-polish--silk-250ml Also available for 3x the price from Amazon. Jason.
  6. The luggage rack is sold, subject to collection. Anyone fancy the wheel? Cheery, Jason.
  7. I've been reliably informed that the wheel is made by Two Gates. Apparently, Minators have slightly deeper dishing. (Thanks, LazerBrain.)
  8. Hi Bruce, Yes, I think so. If there's some feature that distinguishes the Minator from any other minilite-style wheel then please let me know and I will check mine. Cheery, Jason.
  9. Dave, you're 2nd on the list if I don't get a response from Steven.
  10. Hi, I've got the following available, for collection from Charvil, near Reading. I'd rather not get into posting them, for the moment. -- 6J14 Two Gates superlight-style wheel, silver, with 1996-vintage Michelin Pilot SX 185/60 R14 tyre fitted, all probably unused since 1996, £15. SOLD -- Caterham luggage rack with strap (fits to spare wheel). £15. Cheery, Jason. Edited by - strangely on 16 Jul 2007 10:38:05
  11. Den, my injectors went quiet again after driving up to and around Scotland, over the course of about two days. That's about 6 months usage for you, isn't it?
  12. I couldn't hear anything strange in those recordings (other than horrible GSM compression). Last time I feared for my engine because of strange tappety noises, it turned out to be the injectors. They are normally very quiet, but they suddenly started making a right racket (but still worked fine). After a while they went back to being quiet. Weird. Phil spotted it straight away, because his injectors make that kind of noise all the time.
  13. I checked in the car park this morning - I can go as low as 6 mph in 1st without having to slip the clutch .
  14. I've got CR500s in 185/55 R13 all round.
  15. Myles, as Rob said about his, I don't notice the gears. The 2.66 1st is fine, and I drive my 7 every day in towns and open roads. I don't notice having to slip the clutch any more than with my pre-BGH box (only when travelling in a very slow queue). This engine, gearbox and AP clutch have done 23k miles so far, and there's no sign of the clutch even needing adjustment. Rob's rev limit must be higher than mine, because I can only dream of doing 150 mph! With my 0.82 5th gear, I can do 129 mph with the shift light flickering on at 7,000 rpm .
  16. My 0.82 5th is great for drivability - 80 mph @ 4,500 rpm means that I'm right in the power band for overtaking, but given that I frequently cruise at a somewhat higher speed than that, it can't be good for the engine. Good job I don't do motorways too often. ISTR that the BGH 5th is slightly different to standard, perhaps 0.82 vs 0.825, or the other way around. I didn't mean to imply that cruising had been made worse with that box; it's no different really. If I cared that much about it then I could put on some 16" wheels (CR500s in 185/55 R13 don't help in that regard ). Edited by - Strangely on 2 Nov 2005 17:48:52
  17. Hi Myles, I went for these ratios on my BGH 5-speeder, with similar power and same diff: 1st 2.66 (2.75 was an option) 2nd 1.75 3rd 1.26 4th 1.0 5th 0.82 (other options were 0.84, 0.86, 0.89) It was called an E7 at the time. I'm completely happy with my choice. I'd ideally like an extra 6th ratio for motorway cruising (80 mph is about 4,500 rpm), but for it's fantastic.
  18. David, I was in a similar situation. I wrote up what I did here: http://www.strangely.org/diary/200311/engine.html. I hope that there's something useful there.
  19. JP, I've done 23k miles on my "new" 1.8 K engine since it was built, without a sump foam on the advice of Oily. No problems (that I know of 😳). Purely road use (until I get my dry sump fitted).
  20. I had similar symptoms (throttle stuck open approaching a bend on a country road 😳). The problem turned out to be at the pedal end. There's a big hole in the top of the pedal. Inside it fits a bush, and a bolt goes through that into the chassis. There wasn't much of the bush left on mine, so rather than pivoting freely, it was sticking. Of course, my lead feet were enough to overcome the resistance when pressing on, but when I came off the pedal, it was sticky enough to keep the throttle open. It took about 85k miles to get into that state, so I don't know how likely it is to be your problem. Easy to check though.
  21. Lardy, my usage is similar to yours - about 50 miles per day, all year in all weathers. I favour CR500s, but have tried most of the alternatives. More details here. Note that I have 13" wheels; you seem to have 15", which might make tyres last a little longer.
  22. The circumference is similar, but not the same. I went from 14" 185/60 to 13" 175/55 - quite a drop and change to the gearing. Also, the reduction in rotating mass helps acceleration.
  23. Switching to 13" wheels with CR500's will reduce the rotating unsprung mass significantly. I noticed a huge improvement, and I came from 14" wheels. But... to get the most benefit you might need to adjust the ride height, both for the sake of ground clearance and handling. Do you have adjustable platforms on your dampers (so that you can easily change the ride height of the car)? If not, then a Freestyle suspension upgrade will come in at around the same price . You can also get adjustable platforms for the Bilsteins, but I've no idea what they cost.
  24. When my (1996 fresh air) heater sprang a leak we replaced the core with one from a Mini, I think. It wasn't quite as warm because it was brass rather than ali, IIRC.
  25. Dave, I know nothing about tweaking things with a MEMS, so I'll leave that question to those more qualified... If there is someobdy with a suitable Emerald nearby then that would be your easiest option - the Emerald is literally a plug-n-play swap for the MEMS. If you were EU2 and lived a bit further south then you could try mine...
