    Powerspeed

I had the full Powerspeed exhaust fitted to my 1.6K SS in March, and have done about 7000 miles since. Still going strong, it's removed the sudden onset of power at about 4600 rpm (it's good throughout the range now), and I have no complaints about the quality or service. Recommended.
  2. I've got a Powerspeed 4:2:1 system on my 1.6K SS. A friend tested it as 95 dB @ 5000 rpm, 0.5m, 45 degrees. I've also done a track day at the Bedford Autodrome, and they didn't raise an eyebrow. I'm very happy with the system - more powerful and quieter than the horrible 4:1 Caterham system.
  3. I too have a 1.6K SS with Powerspeed exhaust, and it was tested by Phil Waters as 95 dB @ 5000 rpm, 0.5m, 45 degrees.
  4. I use a Britax Freeway. See here: http://strangely.org/diary/200207/Sevenchildseat.html
  5. Unless you're planning on putting your Seven in a wind tunnel then the only way you're going to get a CdA figure is by using the formula, same with rolling resistance. The latter could easily change with different tyres and road surfaces. I've mainly used my AP-22 for comparative purposes when I change things on the car. Oh, and bragging about my 0-60 times, of course!
  6. I wrote this when I first configured my AP-22 a few years ago: http://www.strangely.org/diary/200008/#weight
  7. Thanks Phil. Yes, it's the actual rail which has cracked. I can't weld, but I know a man who can ;-) Do you know whether it could be done in-place, or would the rail need to be removed from the car / engine first?
  8. Hi, I've noticed that there is a crack in my K-Series water rail, the one which runs alongside the block, just above the exhaust. The crack is just behind the mounting bolt, near the front of the engine, possibly originating from when my new exhaust was fitted some time ago. Water is weeping, rather than gushing out. Can this be reliably fixed, or do I need a new water rail? If it can be fixed, what's the best way? Cheery, Jason. http://www.strangely.org/
  9. I know, I know, but it's worth a try. I'm after 4 good quality 6 x 13" Ford PCD (de Dion) wheels, e.g. -- Minilight style -- R500 -- Superlight R The lighter the better, but it depends upon the price! They must be in good, but not necessarily perfect, condition (they're going onto a 58k-miler). Silver, black or some combination, please. I'll consider buying with or without tyres (anything from a Yoko 21 up in terms of stickiness), and can collect from anywhere within about 1.5 hours drive of Reading. Cheery, Jason.
  10. "Standard" size tyre for a 6 / 14" wheel is 185/60 R14. Good luck trying to find some 21s; I bought what seemed to be the last 2 in the country a couple of weeks ago (even George Polley couldn't get hold of them). I second everyone who has recommended 21s. I drive my Seven every day, all year round, and 21s are the best all-round tyre I've tried (32s are also great, A539s are average, Goodyear NCTs were awful).
  11. >I thought the stiffer the front arb the more understeer That is generally true, although it wasn't in this case. I'm not quite sure why. Perhaps full soft let the car lean so much that one wheel was significantly unweighted; two tyres must grip more than one?
  12. Phil already posted a link to my web page where I comment on my experiences with the Freestyle dampers. I'm very happy. Not sure whether they're good enough to recommend as an upgrade to someone with a perfectly good set of Bilsteins, but I needed new dampers anyway. I also had the adjustable front anti-roll bar fitted, but didn't play with this until I went to an airfield track day last Friday. It behaves exactly as you'd want it to. Fully soft and the car was understeering a bit. With a twist of an allen key I wound it up to 4/6, and the understeer was gone. Excellent.
  13. I'm (seriously) interested. Has anyone fitted one of these exhausts to a 1.6K SS? My current exhaust (4:1 inside engine bay) is shot, and I plan to upgrade initially to TBs and Emerald ECU, with possibly some head work sometime later. I'm only looking for 160-170 bhp.
  14. Bracknell Tyres (01344 411323) are usually pretty cheap - sometimes even more so than Micheldever and George Polley (once you take fitting into account). I've had no problems with the service.
  15. I've had my Freestyle kit fitted. I'm pleased so far, but I haven't finished tweaking yet. More details on my website. Edited by - strangely on 1 Sep 2002 00:04:26
  16. Thanks for the responses everyone. I've decided to go for the Freestyle kit. This is for two main reasons: -- while the Nitrons sound excellent it also seems that I would need to know what I was talking about in order to be sure of getting them configured correctly for my car. I just drive it! -- a respected friend with a similar car to mine has had Avos, and is very pleased.
  17. Thanks, Barry. More questions, I 'm afraid... Did you find them better in terms of ride quality, handling, or both? Did you go for the whole dampers / spring kit? Which model? From their website it looks like they do kits based on the NTK and NTX models.
  18. Hopefully not too long, Steve. I've just managed to dig out the articles in Low Flying about springs and ARBs by Michael Gray of Juno. Still need to digest them...
  19. Thanks to Peter and Hoopy for responding, but it sounds like I'm going to have to wait a while until I get your considered views, which is fair enough. Anyone else got something to say? I'm hoping that my current dampers don't give up completely before I can make an informed decision about their successors. Cheery, Jason.
  20. I hope you get things sorted quickly (and only partly for selfish reasons :-))
  21. It's time to replace my Bilsteins. Anyone care to share their experience of the spring / damper kits from Freestyle or Nitron? I do lots of road miles, and a couple of track days a year so I'd like something biased towards the former, but capable on the latter. Both of these kits sound interesting but I'd like to avoid an expensive mistake... Cheery, Jason. http://www.strangely.org/
