  1. Hi John, you will need to remove the oil pickup pipe, I changed my baffle foam last year and took a few photos as I went along. If you want copies, please send your "ordinary" email address to me (I don't think I can attach files to a Blatchat email?). goffers

    8v VX oil

Hi Mark, The Caterham Assembly Guide recommends Comma Eurolite which is a 10W-40 semi synthetic oil. It's the one I use, but I only use the car on the road, not on the track. goffers
  4. You could try TWMETALS at Southampton on 02380 739333. Also on the internet at twmetals.co.uk goffers

  6. You sure it's not the A-frame bush? When I've had a clunk on my VX Classic, changing the A-frame bush solves the problem! goffers
  7. UPDATE - just had an MOT and it was a VISUAL test - I did mention that it was visual at last years test. Perhaps this helped the interpretation of the MOT testers manual? 😬 goffers
  8. Has any VX 1600 Classic owner had an MOT emissions test done with the new computerised MOT test. Last year's pre-computer MOT test was a visual test, but my DVLA V5 form says nothing about emmisions, and I wondered what to expect this year. goffers
  9. Nic, What year is it, and is it Tax exempt? goffers
  10. HI, The submarine pipe John refers to is Caterham part number 72795, Three outlet cooling submarine pipe (Caterham also supply a schematic diagram to show you how to connect it up). I also got some 5/8" heater hose and hose clamps from my local Motor Factor when I fitted mine. I also have two thermostats, summertime (cooler one) Vauxhall part number 90486128 (not a standard stock part, so you'll have to persevere with the Vauxhall agent to get this one). Wintertime (standard) Vauxhall part 90232012 (the thermostat rubber sealing ring is 9129998). Sorry I can't remember the operating temperatures of the thermostats. goffers
  11. I managed to get a 82 deg thermostat (part number 90486128) from a local Vauxhall agent just over a year ago. It was not available from Vauxhall UK, but was sourced (I seem to recall) from Germany. I called Vauxhall UK HQ myself and eventually found someone who could help, and I briefed the local Vauxhall storeman, who had to use a non standard part ordering procedure to get the part - sorry my memory's a bit hazy on the detail. Perhaps you could try this if you have no luck with Redline goffers
  12. I get exactly the same on my VX 1600 - I just accept it and tend to refill when it reads about 1/4. Since the gauge would spend most of its time not reading full anyway, it's no great hardship. I keep an eye on the mileage and work on 5 miles to the litre on a 36 litre tank for normal road use. goffers
  13. Guy, I don't believe Myles has a VX 1600 8V baffle (which is what I need), so you guys go ahead. goffers
  14. According to the "Caterham Seven Service Schedule" in the 7FAQ section it is recommended that the sump foam baffle is replaced at 12,000 mile intervals. My Seven has only done half this mileage and it's just over five years since its build - are there any views as to whether it should be replaced at 12,000 miles OR (say) 5 years (i.e. mileage AND calender limits?) goffers
