  1. Interesting thread! I will add my experience; my previous Seven was a Sigma Supersport on standard Bilsteins. It always felt firm and underdamped to me. Getting the car flat-floored helped greatly with the balance, but the car always struggled with bumps, especially short, sharp impacts. However it was a lot of fun! I now have a 420R with Quantum one-way dampers. They have a total of 29 clicks of adjustment, with 'zero' being full hard, and winding it back from there. Initially, from the previous owner, I'd been told -12 clicks for track and -18 for road. And I have to say, even with a range of 29 clicks, just changing track to road (6 clicks of adjustment) can absolutely be felt! I've subsequently heard from Simon at Meteor that he recommends -22 to -24 for road use, however I found this too soft (!), with a lack of body control and noticeably more roll. So I run the car at -20 for the road. One thing I will point out is that my Seven is certainly not a limousine, but it definitely rides better and absorbs the bumps better than my old Supersport. However one final point; the recommended service interval of the Quantums is every 2 years, and the servicing is not cheap, so make sure you factor that into your buying equation.
  2. I'm just about to advertise my Dave Gemzoe LED bulbs for sale. If you're interested, please drop me a PM :-)
  3. I had my 420R (on RBTBs) mapped at Northampton Motorsport last year. What a difference!!! The car starts, runs and drives beautifully now. I even have multiple maps for different exhaust and airbox configurations (and a flame-spitting pop & bang map, as I'm a child). It cost more as I had to have a new (unlocked) ECU, but it was well worth the cost. Also for reference, Northampton Motorsport is where all the Premier Power fettled cars are mapped. And you never hear anyone with a PP conversion saying anything other than fantastic driveability of their newly upgraded cars.
  4. Need to know more about the specification, but...I had my car remapped by Northampton Motorsport and it transformed the day-to-day driveability.

    New 420

@Geoff Brown, No I bought a new (unlocked) MBE ECU for mine. New ECU and 6hrs roller time (I had 4 custom maps created) came in around £1300. Sounds a lot, but in terms of difference has made a helluva upgrade!

    New 420

My old Sigma Supersport was a nightmare; idled from cold for about 20 seconds, before being all over the place (including stalling) until it had done a mile or two. My current 420R RBTB was better (no stalling), but was a bit 'grumpy' until warm. However earlier this year I took my 420R to Northampton Motorsport and had it mapped. The difference is night and day! It now fires up immediately and settles to a perfectly stable idle whether cold or hot. Driveability is massively improved and it's made the car so more better to drive.
  7. I recently re-fitted my dampers after having them serviced. My advice would be to dry fit a bolt into the wishbone first to ensure the thread is clear. Then line up the damper lower mount and put an allen key through the wishbone and into the damper mount and give it a good wiggle. This will help align the damper mounting to the wishbone (make the respective holes concentric). Then it should just be a case of fitting the bolt, although always worth while giving the whole 'system' a good wiggle to help things along. And regarding the top fixing, mine was done up hand-tight when I fitted my lower, so if you have to loosen it, you won't have to loosen by very much. Good luck!
  8. Reply to #29 I've not done a like-for-like measurement, so my estimate is 10-15C difference.
  9. I blank mine off and do very much notice an increase in oil temp.
  10. Out of interest, is your overrun at its worst in 6th?
  11. If it's any help at all, I had a Sigma Supersport (140bhp) with 6" rears. It moved around loads, which was great fun. I now have a 420R (220bhp) with 8" rears, and it can be made to move around just as much as the Sigma. However I will confess it's not quite as tactile as the Sigma was on 6" rears. I actually think 6" rears with >200bhp would probably just be frustrating.

    R500D De-cat

The de-cat pipe is a good 2kg lighter than the catalyst.
  13. Hi Jim, Yes, should be below: (no idea why the 3rd image keeps rotating 90 deg...)
  14. I have an alternate method; I just whip off the bonnet and look at the sight tube that Stuart at Premier Power installed on my DS tower (Duratec 420R). Absolutely superb modification that makes checking the oil - an important task - both easy and reliable.
  15. I will second ScottR400D's post (#486) as that completely replicates my experience. 420R with 6 speed, Titan LSD -> Tracsport Lsd. @ScottR400D - your mention of 6 speed noise matches exactly mine; a whining on overrun or light throttle in 6th and 6th only. Replicate in other gears and it's silent. I assume this is a 6th gear thing, what with 6th being the 1:1 ratio?
  16. That's a fantastic offer. Thank you Avon Tyres and L7C
  17. I will second the Dave Gemzoe ball joint splitter. I bought one earlier this year and it's perfect for the job. Great usage instructions supplied too.
  18. Hello, I'm looking for a decat pipe for a Duratec 420R please. Caterham part number is CSP899LC I believe. Thank you.
