  1. Wow, can the oil make that much a difference. I have just replaced the oil with MTL redline! Sounds like that may have been a mistake.
  2. Maybe I am ultra critical and maybe 'they all do that sir' might be the case. I am happy for any local seveners to pop by and take it up the road to confirm or dismiss my concerns. Before I commit to an expensive overhaul. I'm in wokingham.
  3. I have a 6 speed box on a 420R. Nothing wrong with it, but they are noisy. So I will swap out the oil to see if an alternative works better to reduce the whine on overrun. I am sure this has been done to death, but recommendations please.
  4. Hi, I get a constant whine and a little chatter. The overrun is really loud and the occasional clonk. I think LSD service and then a careful re-alignment will fix most of this. PT Sportscars in Maidenhead will sort it for me I'm sure.
  5. Here are a few pics. I followed advice in #22, but used SS ties. Which work well. The only mod I should have made was to fold the first coil over to make a clean edge. If the primaries come off again., I will do this. I havn't trimmed the ends of the ties in case they need a tighten after a few hot/cold cycles.
  6. All done. If you are planning on wrapping, taking the primaries off is definitely the way to go.
  7. Cheers Guys. I think I might be going down the fitting sintered discs route and having the diff set up correctly. Maybe a slight re-alignment and crown wheel and pinion adjustment will solve my noise issues.
  8. Is that a top tip? As I wasn't planning to.
  9. Ok. So I just need the temp. I have some ready to buy but it's rated at 550C constant. So just want to be sure that's ok A bit of info. I have done a little digging and the internal exhaust temps of a Duratec can be circa 1200 Degs C at peak revs. So the 550C wrap will go brittle and fail to do the job. The higher the temp rating the better. Just bought this stuff. 15M TITANIUM LAVA ROCK EXHAUST WRAP 50mm (870°C) from 'Flame Barrier'. It's quite heavy duty and will be a pig to fit, but looks far more fit for purpose than the DT options. £38 inc 25 SS ties.
  10. Guys. I have a 420R and the heat in the foot wells can be horrid. In the summer, I can't run with the roof on at all. Even with the screen in place against aero makes a huge difference in temp. So I need to get the temp out of the engine bay. I have not wrapped my primaries, that will be this weekends job. But Just checking what I should buy. There's quite a lot of choice out there. First off, what temp rating should I go to? Ranges from 550C to over 1000C. 25mm or 50mm? Any recommendations gratefully received.
  11. Guys. Maybe a slightly odd question. I am changing my diff out to an alternative LSD and wondered if there's any value in the Titan unit. I believe it is original with original plates, so I suspect it's ready for new plates. Done 6.5K miles. If you are interested, please let me know.
  12. I had my SLR from new, about 1998 I think. I really couldn't tell you the diff components. With Emerald, it was about 205 BHP.
  13. Hi All I would like some first hand experience. I have a 420R, 6 speed, LSD (BMW, Titan). I am thoroughly fed up with the racket the diff makes. With the windscreen in place rather than aero, it is a dominant noise in the car and does ruin the drive. Whining, banging and the overrun noise is shocking. I had an SLR with LSD before the 420R and it was silent... No diff issues at all in 30K miles. I used to track and Sprint that car. So, I am interested in some first hand feedback from anyone who has changed to Tracsport Ultra Sierra 7'' LSD. Is it any good? Quiet? Have a reasonable life span? If not the Tracsport, then maybe another alternative. But I need to get this upgraded ASAP. The Tracsport does seem good value if it does what it says on the tin. Thanks
  14. Sorry gents. It's a 2017 420R with 6 speed
