  1. There is some information on the Caerbont(CAI)/Smiths website. They may be able to supply you with the subloom which IIRC for mine I got from Caterham. Should be the Post 2004 version, though the pre 2004 document is useful too. info@caigauge.com https://www.smiths-instruments.co.uk/bespoke-projects/product-instructions/
  2. Andrew, your Blatmail box is full. I'll be in touch after the Xmas break regards ECU/Loom et al
  3. Hello Andrew, few Emails and Blatmails seem to have got lost in the ether. Just checking all OK ? New to me (Old) K dug out from back of garage... Looks remarkably clean for 10 years as a spider home
  4. Hello Mark, and long time no see I had it in my mind that it was simply this https://www.burtonpower.com/clutch-cover-7-5-flat-fingers-190mm-fp260c.html Lots to sort given engine that is going in has collected dust and spiders for last ten years !
  5. Anyone know the part number of the Clutch (Pressure plate) cover used when fitting standard (or AP) Friction plate? Flywheel is TTV-0672 unit. Engine (will be) 1.6K Ta muchly in advance David
  6. Progress ... be gone old Immobiliser. Thankfully mainly spliced into engine rather than dash loom. Some hateful things leading to/from ignition switch (I've never known/had a column barrel). They need routing and marshaling properly to a stud or busbar. Plenty of work to make dash loom right. Nothing that correct grade and length of cables, solder and heatshrink can't fix. Still a few (small) wires I have not traced from FIA switch that disappear into transmission tunnel. So much to tidy
  7. I'd send your list to Esprit.... EIL.com in the first instance as very well set up for buying UK wide
  8. Ooh shiny new wiring, that would be lovely . I've just dropped you an email outlining present position/condition. Certainly be up for a fresh EU2 loom and will work on getting old immobiliser out and an SA5 prep behind the dash in coming weeks.
  9. .....and time to finally move this on !! Revilla, I will drop you a line later with photo's etc.
  10. Thanks all. I live and learn Jonathan. More fibreglass on my car than I thought then ....Borderline Westy ! Don't think I will change from a PC680 (or Red Top 20 as previous). Just seems right and even the smallest battery chargers seem to be rated for batteries twice the Ah capacity of either. I'll pick one with AGM and Li-Ion modes. Not that I think Li-Ion is a solution for me yet. I'd have to research and buy known quality battery in that sense regards the integral BMS for cell balancing/preservation and safety. Good call on the Noco - Their newer Genius 2 is probably the one I will compare others against. Can get that for all of £35 with a present Halfords offer.
  11. As my enthusiasm for rebuild / recommissioning finally gathers pace wondering whether to replace my dead Optimate III SP with the confusingly similar named but different Optimate 3, Optimate Accumate 3, or something totally different? Must be capable of long term connection for conditioning. Will be sticking with Gel type battery. Hoping my Odyssey PC680 can be recovered rather than replaced. Cheers, David
  12. Really good progress yesterday: Untangled and labelled my unwrapped "EU2" loom. Basically missing main 14 pin Grey plug and it's individual wires to gauge sensors and alternator. Great work by Revilla has lifted my mood, not least in identifying the Connector OEM part numbers. Sure I can get everything from Autoclick and Polevolt. Other parts to find are Ignition Coil, Inertia Switch and Lambda Sensor. I will do a full 'spot the difference' from EU1 to EU2.
  13. Mine needed edges trimming (Dremel cutting disks then sanding bands) to suit steering boss (weakens massively), scuttle top, triangular panels (bolts through no longer needed with my later style cage) and the dash rail wrap around (there are varying diameters). Make sure you have loads of masking tape to protect it and for pencil marks. Somewhere I documented it all so will try dig out the photo's. Measure 4 times and cut 3 times (nibble away !!!) Mine was not from Caterham but had all the main dial cut outs done (Ultimate Carbon). It's lovely even in a broken car http://www.ultimatecarbon.co.uk/products-page/caterham/s3-dashboard-with-switch-and-gauge-cutouts/
  14. ...and still the garage ornament sits dormant Time has flown.... Andrew, I will be in touch regards my 1.6 ECU and SA5. My backtrack plans came to nothing as that would only work if took on one the old 36/2 flywheels and the EU1 set up is one I must ditch. Hoping to swap lumps soon given a good solid day, crane (sorted loaner) and a spanner wielding assistant. Then the wiring mountain to climb.
  15. Link works fine Nigel. That is a stunning colour !
  16. ..and still no progress on my part. Backtracking on my part to get the car running (if/when get chance) to drop the 1.6 in and go Stuart's original 1.8 mod route and use the old ECU, Throttle body and loom (but with the cream injectors). Once the lump is in can be updated over time. Dash loom makes me cringe and a faff splicing in an SA5. Let me know when you have something to share Dannyboy. As can tell there is no urgency regards my garage obstacle !
  17. ...and truly minimal progress on my part. Time flies when working from home and in snippets of 'me' time it is much more healthy to go for a run than starting any task that know cannot dig into. So far partially untangled and labelled a loom. Next must compare to Andrew's superior drawings then undo the EU1 immobiliser/wiring and prep for a 5AS... 3rd party ECU is starting to look tempting... or save the pennies over next few years and throw a Busa in it for my 50th.... so stays 1396cc after all
  18. Plate ending in ALU... nice touch Hope you avoided the downpour ? ! Slowed the Leon with Bikes on top so the small person could see you come past. He said "I wish ours still worked". You and me both fella
  19. The tracing of wires is for another day but successful hunt through a few boxes... ....but less than successful attempt to share photos' here from Google account..... I will visit the old sheds and try again or shift them to Flickr !! Two Looms - one unwrapped but labelled, if can untangle it looks OK/EU2, wrapped one I'm not sure about some of the plugs. Both need study and comparison. 5AS - Dated Week 48 1997 and YCW104540 complete with a sub loom of sorts with both plugs (also old tall immobiliser control unit on bulkhead next to the fusebox) ECU - slightly smaller than the EU1 but same plug and a large raised X on the cover plate. Most identifiers illegible but a barcode on connector 19A1800180 Cream Injector set on a Fuel Rail ..and a Roadsport A Supersport 1.6 partially dressed We'll ignore the 160 pistons on 1.6 rods (Oily's handiwork and minimal mileage), full stripped bagged and tagged 1.6, OEM Longbolts, most of a gasket set, sump pan, water rail, Elise TB, Vernier Pulleys etc.....
  20. All My mind is made up to go EU2 and as standard/OEM as possible. I couldn't justify an Emerald etc to myself (yet) and the EU1 1.4 lump has to come out to get into the bell housing (to remove the bits of Ring gear clobbered by the starter motor). I think first step is undo the Toad immobiliser, dash wiring with the 5AS prep. Also to consider have FIA Battery master switch, big red starter button, aircraft style main switch and no ignition barrel. My mods since 2005 when bought it are Stepper Tacho and proximity sensor driven speedo (front wheel stud triggered). Frankly it's awful and Stuart's approach may be justified as cost effective given I am in no rush.. Afternoon off tomorrow so small person can come help me take those horror photo's. Not losing 45 minutes to a commute each way for the foreseeable am I :(
  21. Thank you all. I will get a copy of your updated EU2 loom drawing plotted Andrew. This is going to get very messy...and now certain I need to study and rework dash loom as much as engine. Garage (and parts bin) getting more accessible thanks to a minor clear out. I will get back in there tomorrow and see what I truly have. I am now guessing I am at least missing a 5AS (which will still be on EU2 source car's bulkhead... L7EVL) and paired keyfob. Certainly going to need your expertise on that Andrew not least as ECU will need interrogation. Stu, so glad I'd not hacked into new dash panel to reinstall the (ancient Toad) immobiliser socket. Looks like dash loom to unpick the Toad and 5AS to incorporate. Immobiliser on (dodgy old) Immobiliser would be recipe for disaster. Scuttle off photo will make you shudder... Polevolt will do well out of me else it's almost worth a car loom too. At that point I'd be as well calling Arch for full skin off chassis refurb....that is not presently an option. Cheers, David
  22. I remember this place.... well in nicer parallel universe a few years ago anyway :( Looks like I may have some time at home to get on with long overdue recommissioning of what has long been called "Daddy's Broken Car". I know this will be a rabbit hope of mechanical and electrical pitfalls but my early EU1 1.4 has to come out as there is no longer a reluctor/ring gear attached to the flywheel and the first version throttle with built in stepper is awful. I have an EU2 1.6 SS waiting to drop in (had that 10 years now!!!) with what I hope is matching EU2 MEMS unit, MFRU and a very messy, unwrapped and potentially butchered loom. I honestly can't remember where I got everything from. I figure step one and help I need is to identify what I have (and therefore what I need). Niggling concern is any immobiliser issues. The thing I believe to be a MFRU could be a 5AS unit... without a keyfob.... how was Roadsport A wired? I will try upload some photographs in coming days. Cheers, David
  23. Hello Malcolm Yes, I might give the 1.4 one last go with a thorough wiring check, though the amount of coking in the cylinder head is horrible....and.... starter motor rebuild or swap as accidentally drove it into the still spinning flywheel...oops. You'll be first to know Malcolm if JZX's going spare. I think I now have two good 'uns. Also keep an eye out or contact EBay seller "mark32parts". I bought a (28 year new old stock) Full Throttle Body assembly very similar to the Caterham install (Rover 820 T series MHB100046 with same base construct, JZX2963 and Stepper assembly but would have/will need modification for cam cover breather and some hose port blanking etc.). In removing the TPS the cheap screws that had nipped over time into the body snapped. The 1.6KSS (with full induction system, what looks like a full unwrapped loom and MEMS2 ECU) was scarily bought 10 years ago when Tonycaterham's L7EVL got power hungry) with view that the 1.4 would expire given car was an ex racer and I never spared the red line. Not many parts needed to recommission and could be built up in preparation as have a sump and bellhousing. Need to work out a parts list for clutch install but hopefully that is just bolts and a cover (which one?) as have a good AP plate, new CRB and wet sump release arm (not wonky unlike the one I've always lived with). So many parts so little time (and experience ) David
