  1. Very impressive figures. Even if the doubters think it is exaggerated by (say) 10%, that still gives a fairly risk-free, fairly low cost 250bhp. Yummy.
  2. Hi Mark I didn't sell the RS in the end, although I think it is about to go back on the market as I never use it and the girlfriend is starting at University in September (anything to avoid marriage and babies for a few more years). Another SLR could be tempting though...
  3. I owned a Superlight R and an R500. The R500 was the better road car by some margin. Don't believe the hype about it being an undriveble animal, it's not true. I agree with previous posts about values though - a 2 year old R500 is worth £25k to £28k depending on condition and extras, your R400 should fetch £28k+ in a private sale.
  4. I had this combo on my R500 to start with. I found it pretty horrible. It was impossible to drive the car slowly because it was too stiff and your foot kept jumping off the throttle. Far too stiff for road use in my opinion.
  5. OK, I get the hint... pictures should resize properly now....
  6. They are supposed to resize according to the speed of your connection, doesn't seem to be working too well, perhaps I have cocked it up....
  7. I could be tempted by your Radical in part exchange, especially if it is better set up than the R500...... 😬
  8. Fancy a lovely RHD Porsche 964RS? The perfect depreciation-free track car that can be used at weekends...Have a look at the advert on Pistonheads here, and some pictures here

    Rallying

Graeme Finlayson's carbon bodied westfield is currently on a boat to the Caribbean to enter the Barbados Rally Carnival. For the last two years there have been two Westfields entering. The package is great value, and includes shipping, flights, entry to the rally and a rally sprint and lots of rum and beer. Get in contact with Graeme at www.fluke-motorsport.co.uk he should be able to give you loads of information. His email address is gee_finAThotmail.com.
  10. You have fitted the wing stays correctly. To fit the pad, you have to remove the top caliper mount and loosen the lower one, and rotate it until the pin will fit......great design, eh?
  11. Nobody asked if I actually paid £40k for it though.... I was originally looking for a LHD car but couldn't find the right one. This car turned up and was at the top end of my budget, but I decided to pay the premium for what I really wanted. Not everyone's choice, I know, and it is certainly a lot of cash for an 11 year old car. Anyway, back on topic, there must be plenty of Caterham owners out there who fancy a roof above their heads for a while. And the 964 available here is the lowest price I've seen for a while, and they are never going to get any cheaper - is depreciation free motoring and fun really possible?? Looks like it.
  12. I'm another ex-SLR and R500 owner who has recently bought a 964RS - I've gone for a low miles RHD maritime blue car with full history. Not exactly cheap but lovely. I've only done a few hundred miles so far and I've found it quite easy to drive relatively quickly so far, and mine is running on new SO3s, which aren't reputed to be the best.
  13. He usually replies to his emails quickly. I don't think the car has been sold, so be patient!
  14. I bought it privately. Email me offline if you want to know what is around at the moment.
  15. I certainly am - ex SLR and R500 owner, tomorrow a 964RS owner...
  16. Jon's SLR is the cleanest one I've ever seen. If anyone is interested in buying one, don't miss out on it, you won't find better.

    R500 Build

I think the issue is more about documentation - ie, there isn't really any for the R500-specific bits.
  18. Speak to Graeme Finlayson (gee_fin on here). He'll be able to talk to you about using full throttle on up shifts with this combo.
  19. I believe it is know as a "durable dot fastener"
  20. Due to selling my car, my DL-90 is available. For more details, go to the Race Technology home page. For an example of the track mapping available, have a look at Graeme Finlayson's Fluke Motorsport site; this shows a stage of the Barbados rally (with George Martin's dodgy pace notes). This is available for £350 after Bookatrack's day at Spa on 21st October. No offers. Cheers.
  21. I think the reason that many manufacturers use V6s is that they can be mounted transversely, so are suited to well-packaged front wheel drive applications. The BMW straight six can only be mounted lengthways, so is not suited to a front drive car. I'm sure it is nothing to do with smoothness, power delivery, or anything else. Just a desire to build a car as economically as possible, by using exactly the same platform for each engine size and layout.

    tillet seat

Use the plastic washers to raise the front of the seat. You can just about get the petty strut in then.
  23. If you need to remove the top caliper bolt to change the pads then you have the new pad shape. if the wing stays don't get in the way, you have the old ones.....
