  1. Thanks for the tip, unfortunately that is a roadsport cage, not the super light ‘race’ cage. What a shame!
  2. I want to fit a cage over the winter and would rather not pay the £1,100 Caterham charge! Does anyone have one spare? Thanks
  3. I have one available with all three mirrors, perfect condition.
  4. I'd be interested in an original quality plaque.
  5. Sorry for all the duplicate posts, I'm not sure what happened there! Jonathan, it does sound similar to that post. I'll lubricate the change mechanism and change the oil first to see what that does. It seems very odd - fine at (say) 5k rpm, but won't go in at 7.5k rpm. I've clearly not tried it cold!! Otherwise the gearbox is tremendous.
  6. Hello I have a 6 speed gearbox which was overhauled by Road and Race in 2013, about 6,000 miles ago. A new R500 clutch was fitted at the same time. When at high revs it is very hard to shift from 1st to 2nd - I pretty much have to shift to 3rd instead. It doesnt crunch, it just doesn't 'go in'. Shifts at lower revs are fine, all other gears are fine regardless of revs, and 2nd is fine coming down the box. it is just from 1st to 2nd at high revs. The car is a 2002 Superlight R with about 210bhp. Any ideas? Thanks for your help! Steve

  10. Your post brings back my memories from 2002! I found adjusting diff alignment tricky - I reckon the diff took longer than engine and gearbox. I then found Tillet seats bloody challenging, especially on the passenger side with an exhaust in the way in a single garage. I gave up one night and slept under the car, it was much easier the next morning for some reason! Good luck, it's worth it in the end.
  11. The weave is completely different to the Caterham one as well
  12. This is the Caterham carbon aeroscreen: That has either been cut short or isn't a Caterham one. If it helps, I have some aluminium reinforcing strips that go on the other side of the skin so you could drill a new hole for it? Looks like it would be blocked by the windscreen bracket when you put that back on anyway!
  13. I've passed on my first dibs as this is for a Duratec engined car, good luck with the second dibs Simon!
  14. Interested in the airbox but I can just going out. Could I have first dibs and get in contact later?
  15. The Camberley Car show is a great annual show where the town centre is closed off to traffic for the day. Highlights (for me) were at Plymouth Roadrunner Superbird and a Plymouth Barracuda. Anyway, three 7s were in attendance:
  16. Hello All I have a small crack in my SLR silencer. it's not blowing but is causing an annoying rattle. Here is a picture: Can anyone recommend someone to repair this in the Berkshire/Hampshire/Surrey area? Thanks Steve
  17. The car is early (chassis number 3) but has been completely overhauled. I'm not sure if the the roller barrels have been done. I've only had the car for 3 months, and I'm sure it wasn't like this when i first got it. I'll fiddle with alignment and check the adjuster, and if that doesn't work get the roller barrels rebuilt. Thanks for your help.
  18. Luckily, sticking closed, not open..... Sometimes the throttle on my R500 needs a really firm press to work, usually at low speed. This is clearly not ideal in a car not suited to light throttle openings at the best of times, and can cause you to coast out onto a roundabout before stamping far too hard onto the throttle.... Its not quite as extreme as it sounds, but it is annoying and makes accurate throttle control a pain in the bum. I've replaced the throttle cable in case it is that, but it hasn't really done anything. Does anyone have any ideas for other easy solutions? Or is it likely to be a problem with the roller barrels? Advice appreciated, cheers.

    R500 Price

I think more than 50% retained over 3 years is pretty good for most cars. 'lesser' Caterhams are far better, second hand ones rarely depreciate at all. This one is also affected by the stupid spec - £36k bought you all the R500 you need, I have no idea how you can get to £42k on one. I paid £21k for a 98 SLR and traded it in for an R500 for £22k. I then lost £7k on that , but that is another matter....

£24k? Maybe £28k at a dealer? Caterham would probably ask £30k fully prepared with a 3 month warranty.
  21. I had a witter one fitted a few years ago, and they said the same. The removed bit was right underneath, and you couldn't see it at all.
  22. Peter is right, you need some helper springs to get the correct ride height. If you are in the maidenhead area, I've got some lying around in the garage.
  23. Around 9.2 seconds for a SLR with aeroscreen, measured with an AP-22 so not entirely infallible. Seems very believable though. Magazine tests seem to claim under 9 seconds for the same car, around 10 seconds with a windscreen.
