  1. Ian, you could well be right, but I'm not getting any signals of a failing battery in terms of cranking capacity - what were the signs on yours? The Yorkshireman in me doesn't want to shell out £60 for a new battery only to find it wasn't the issue
  2. I have a similar intermittent cold start problem with my 1.8K EU3. Fully charged battery, engine fires immediately first time but then dies - feels like it's being choked/over fuelled. I can sometimes keep it running through heavy use of the throttle pedal and sometimes it will settle to a normal idle, but on other occasions it just seems to keep over-fuelling and the engine dies. When it does die, an immediate restart results in the engine idling normally! I'm guessing its either a sensor (IVAC?) issue or possible injector wear (26000 miles), but would welcome thoughts from those that have experienced and fixed similar issues. On the K click - this normally occurs (but not always!) when the engine is hotter than usual (somewhere in my mind I remember my physics teacher making a correlation between electromagnetic fields around wires and increased electrical resistance when heat is applied!). Wires to the starter are heat shielded from exhaust heat with reflective tape and when it happens I can normally lift the bonnet and wiggle some wires to get it going again. I thought there was a guide somewhere on here on doing the relay mod - can someone point me to where it is please? Bob
  3. I've been struggling with this conundrum for some time. I'm fortunate enough to have two sets of wheels one R13 (which had the AO21s 185/70s) and the other R14 (which had Avon ZV3 185/60s). The difference in tyre profile and wheel size just about cancelled each other out so I didn't have to worry about changing ride heights/speedo settings each time I swapped them over. Now the AO21s have come to the end of their life, I've gone for a set of Uniroyal Rain Expert 3 in 185/70 R13 (about £40 from Black Circles) and intend to use these for my 'touring' tyres and to deal with the wet stuff. For dry days and track days I aiming to get a set of Toyo R888Rs in 185/60 R14 (about £97 from Demon Tweaks). I did consider the Avon ZZS's but the sizes are limited and the nearest sizes to my requirements were 185/55 R13 or 195/50 R15 which doesn't suit my tyre strategy! From the Avon website (see http://www.avonmotorsport.com/road-legal/performance/zzs) I didn't think they do them in R14 size? Bob
  4. After 25000 miles, including a few track events in my early days, I've finally given up trying to wear out my Avon ZV3s which are now 13 years old!! So I've invested in a set of Uniroyal Rain Expert 3s (185/70 R13) as my 'touring set', set the cold tyre pressures to 18psi and gone out for an initial run. Tyres feel a little squirmy, particularly at higher speeds so was just wondering what other users are setting the cold pressures at? Bob
  5. Hi Tim. Seems to work for me on both laptop and smart phone ... is it still not working? Bob
  6. Great circuit, and for me showed up the short-comings of a (comparatively) under-powered 7 on old rubber compared with say Brands GP where I was by and large able to keep up with the flow. More Grip and Grunt required! Enjoy the video https://www.youtube.com/watch?
  7. Do we know how many places were planned so we know how many cars/garage?
  8. Booked up. Can't wait to knock the 'rust' off my track driving skills!! I need to book overnight accommodation - are we trying to meet up somewhere for dinner on the Sunday? Bob
  9. Presumably, the bigger the number, the better at clearing standing water/avoiding aqua planning? (Understand tread patterns will have an effect also.)
  10. Around 15:30hrs heading towards Redhill.
  11. Thanks for the feedback. I deburred the top of the pedal and fitted a pedal stop using an M10 x 130mm coach bolt (see pics below), I suspect it was my heavy right foot which may have been stretching/stressing the cable(s). Bob /sites/default/files/images/users/1335/IMG_2057.JPG
  12. Throttle cable has broken twice in 2 years and at the same point - at the point where the cable runs through the throttle pedal. I've been lucky on both occasions that I've been able to pull over safely on engine tick-over, but it's not a regular habit I want to get into! Looking at the top of the pedal, the hole where the cable passes through looks as though it could be slightly chaffing the cable or excessively flexing the cable every time the pedal is operated and over time causing the failure. Has anyone suffered similar failures and come up with a fix - I'm thinking some kind of plastic/nylon sleeve around the cable where it passes through the pedal maybe? Bob
  13. Thanks for all the comments and feedback. From the lack of 'failed coils' experience, I'm beginning to rethink that it is the coils that are amiss, so will check all connections for the dreaded green corrosion and give it a dam good thrashing (sorry meant service!)
  14. Normally my 2005 1.8 K series with 25K miles starts first time, ok sometimes second time. Went to start it yesterday and engine turned over but wouldn't fire. Poked around with the HT leads/coil packs and it fired up no problem. Am I right to think the coil packs (which look like the original items), have a finite life and that after 11 years should be replaced anyway? What are others experience of life of the coils? Bob
  15. Yes quality bit of kit and much easier to take very accurate readings. Particularly like the facility that the gauge retains the last pressure reading until you release the air - eyesight failing!!! Best £10 I've spent this year.
  16. Gutted I can't make it this year - enjoy, it is one of the best handling circuits IMHO. Some video footage from last year, morning session in the , afternoon session in the .Bob
  17. Spotted Tuesday evening on M23 Southbound towards Gatwick airport ... being loaded onto a low loader
  18. Hi Paul, Yep that was me out for blat with my son. Lovely afternoon for it. Cheers Bob
  19. Also suffering with blurred vision - and no it's not alcohol related Has anyone found a way to stiffen the doors to stop/reduce the wobble to tolerable levels? Bob
  20. Andy, Having done Dunsfold, Cadwell and Brands GP this year, gutted I'm going to have to miss this one due to boring work commitments - still, hopefully something to look forward to next year? Have fun. Bob
  21. Yep that was us - on our way back to Surrey after a few days blatting around the Peak District Sorry I missed you, I was only commenting to SWMBO that we hadn't seen any other sevens on our travels. Bob
  22. Tony, It was the final session of the day, not the sighting laps. My reference to 'synchronised low flying' was a polite way of saying traffic! Bob
  23. Simon, Yes, very envious of the extra horses you seem to have under the bonnet - do remember admiring your paint scheme on a number of occasions as you passed me Bob
  24. Andy, my thanks to you and all those involved in organising another fantastic and successful track day - you must let me in on how you get the weather just right!! Hope you get the K click fixed soon - there is guidance on here somewhere on the rewiring needed to fix it. As always great to meet fellow like minded spirits, particularly all those in garage 12. Some footage from the last outing . A bit of excellent syncronised 'low flying' at the start but managed to get a couple of quick laps in towards the end. I am wondering if there is a better sound than a K Series on full song - sure others can enlighten me . Still missing some apexes by a country mile and I'm sure I can avoid lifting off/braking so early for some of the corners ... I'll have to go back next year and see if I can improve.Bob
  25. Thanks for the messages ... got myself booked in today so looking forward to next Wednesday now. A little reminder of last years club trackday at - lets hope we get the same weather - not sure I'd like to have been out there today given the rain in the SE!!
