  2. Hopefully once you get the lap belts adjusted properly you can leave them (unless of course you vary the thickness of clothing a lot) and only slacken and tighten the shoulder straps

  6. My initial thoughts are that you should be OK as long as the dynamo and battery are in good condition. I had a mate that did sporting trials and I seem to recall did not run either a dynamo or alternator, just ran off the battery (with possibly a battery change during the lunch break). The original car the engine came from ran happily with the dynamo and you are not running wipers or lights I guess.
  7. The square tube in front of the engine in the photo Tony posted appears to be forward of the 'normal' position. The wing stay clamp tubes are on top of this tube in a 'normal' chassis.

  9. My advice is for rivets that are into a steel tube. In the situation you mention I would certainly not try to hammer the rivets through, I would use pincers or similar on the back to pull the remains of the rivet out
  10. Drilling out the rivets should be straightforward. Use a sharp 4 mm drill until the head comes off and then, if necessary, use a parallel punch to knock the rest of the rivet into the tube. The only problem that might occur is if the pop rivet 'nail' is still showing in the rivet head. This will stop the drill centring so use a smaller parallel punch to knock it back

  13. Don't know if this pic is any help Graham but this is my 1985 short cockpit LA chassis (freshly back from Arch). It has a 711M crossflow and a 2000E gearbox. When I got the chassis from Caterham it had the fitment for the Escort Sport box that I removed the upper part from to enable fitting the 2000E
  14. From what the OP has said it certainly sounds like head gasket failure that has steadily got worse. The question is why has it failed? I am certainly no K series expert but I understand there is an issue of aluminium going soft allowing gasket to bite in
  15. On that point I would think if there was an ongoing question about their design and suitability it would be wrong to keep selling them.
  16. Think of it as a fuse Graham (as Richard suggests). The circuit will try to pass more current than the fuse will take and the fuse will blow. It is the load that determines the current, not the wiring connecting it. If the wiring is inadequate it will blow.
