  1. Sorry - confusingly termed I appreciate - I meant Allen head. I'm out with the family at the moment so can't send any pics (or direct enough attention to writing accurate descriptions!) I want to undo the bolts specified and I don't know what size of Allen/ hex socket to use. I've tried an 8mm and a 10mm size and the one I need is somewhere in between. Thanks for the 3/8 A/F suggestion Stu. I'll be re-using the bolts so I don't need to know the dimensions of these, just to remove them. thanks again Dan
  2. Thanks both Stu - 8mm & 10mm hex head sockets with which are respectively too small and too large for the bolts. It looks like the sizing is not evenly between the 2 and so they may be an imperial size rather than a 9mm? JK - thanks. I have checked the assembly guides on the club website and Shaun's bolt list but I can't find what hex socket size I need for these bolts. I just wanted to know if there was a known size before I buy a railfull of sockets.
  3. Hello POBC I need to take out the engine mount to mounting rubber bolt to remove some shim washers. The cap head size is between the H8 & H10 sockets which I have. Does anyone know the socket size needed so I can buy the correct one? I know it may be imperial. The torque setting for replacing the bolt would be very useful too... Thanks in advance for any knowledge. Dan
  4. Hi Clive I had 2 fitted at Millwood in the summer and I gave Eric a spare black one I had, as he used one of his when I forgot to bring mine on the day. He may well still have it in the store. Dan
  5. I started using the 13in Nankangs this year. I think they are excellent, progressive and compliant. I can't say how much grip they offer in relation to Avons or Toyos, having not tried those, but I would buy these again in a flash. Wet weather grip I have not found to be an issue either, although given the tread pattern, I was pretty circumspect when caught in showers.
  6. Hi Ged If Andrew decides against your DRE shift lights, I would be keen. I'll PM you. Dan

    Tyre Softener

Hi Andrew I have recently changed to 13in wheels and have my set of 15in 10 spokes in the shed (I think I remember you posting you have 15in wheels?). They have Goodyear Eagle 195/45s on them from 2017. I did a track day on them in May this year and they were good. You are welcome to borrow them if it enables you not to miss the F&C run. I'm in Guildford, so possibly en route? I have to collect my car from Millwood on Friday 17th so heading over on the train after lunch that day and then on to Chepstow. If it may be of interest, PM me and we'll try to work something out - others are here and may be able to assist with the pit stop if I have left already. Dan
  8. I read about the idea of the plumbing pipe and found some which fitted inside the throttle pedal. The lateral positioning was better but as referenced above, it still came up too high relative to the brake, so H&T was still an awkward affair. This was my solution, complete with cable tie and beech insert! Like Jonathan, initially temporary, but it never got upgraded and still works a treat. Because the point of contact with the throttle contact is down near the bottom of the wedge, it is lower relative to the brake pedal so the action is much easier now.
  9. It is, and perhaps you've hit on the issue. To a lesser extent it's a phenomenon on the road too.Slow bends are fine but the wind past my ears at speed overwhelms the engine noise, with or without a helmet.
  10. That's interesting feedback. I wonder if it's my position in the airstream, without lowered floors. Anyway, don't be put off 7oaks. Aeroscreens are still brilliant, whatever the predominant noise in your ears!
  11. I've run on track with a windscreen and also an aeroscreen with no half doors. Nothing like the latter for making you feel like you're in a single seater! The only downside is that I can't hear the engine above about 50ish so down changes are trickier. I'd be interested to know if anyone who uses an aeroscreen with half doors finds the wind noise is reduced and thus the engine more audible?

    Help for a newbie

Your car looks mint Alan! You've chosen a perfect upcoming window of better weather to collect it too. Hope you enjoy it.
  13. Hi Adam G Apologies as off topic, but wanted to catch you. Check your messages, I sent you a PM. Cheers Dan
  14. Hi Nigel Interested in the crutch strap, if it is the colour and make which I need. PM sent. thanks Dan
  15. I have just re-greased mine and found the same in the near side wheel. There is either a tiny bit of vertical play in one hole or if tightened a single hole further the play disappears but there is slight resistance to spinning relative to the off side. I'm not sure which is the lesser evil either.
  16. Hi Mark May be interested in the whole system if Pete doesn't take it. Have a sent a PM to enquire. Dan
  17. Keen for a set but fear my metric clamps aren't suitable. I will BM you a photo of them to check, if have a minute to spare.
  18. Thanks for that Ian, I really appreciate the advice from you and the others who replied. I plan to keep an eye out for a whole uprated S3 system and more importantly, enjoy driving the car as it is in the meantime. Dan
  19. Hi everyone Thanks for the replies. I am more or less resigned to doing as you all advise...but before I throw in the towel, this thread did give me some hope that all may not be lost, so I will try to check with Cheeseman and/or CC to make sure nothing can be done with the primaries. Classic1952 - your request is noted and I'll be in touch in the likely event that investigations prove fruitless. Thanks all Dan
  20. I have bought an exhaust for my 2010 1.6k Supersport from a fellow member. I currently have the original inside the skin collector on my car and the one I have bought is a Cheeseman 4 into 1 with a cat. It came from an 2001 R400K Superlight SV. In my high excitement at finding one, I neglected to consider that I was buying an exhaust from an SV chassis for my metric S3. I’m not sure whether a 2001 SV would be imperial or metric. In order to help me salvage some benefit/dignity from the situation, would any members be able to offer advice or have thoughts on the questions currently keeping me awake: Would the system sit a little wider than usual but still fit the rear bracket or would I find that the angles were wrong once the primaries are bolted on because on my car the engine is positioned differently relative to the bracket, for the SV exhaust dimensions to fit? Would it be possible to trial fit one primary through the existing side skin hole to see if it can be mated successfully to the new collector and box and if this is successful, would it indicate that they all might fit? If the system as a whole won’t fit, could the primaries and possibly the cat/collector be useable, perhaps with a fabrication job to hook them up my to current silencer box? I’m keen on being as sure as I can that it will fit or at least that a solution is achievable, before I do anything further. Any words of BC wisdom would be most welcome so thanks in advance all.
  21. Hi Phil I did see a black harness for sale on the Sevens and Classics website, in their parts section. Best Dan
  22. Ian There are some at the moment on Facebook, in Winchester. Don't know if this link will work: Best Dan https://m.facebook.com/marketplace/item/239021024101524/?ref=browse_tab&search_query=Caterham&tracking=%7B%22qid%22%3A%226871118756325873543%22%2C%22mf_story_key%22%3A%223568013953232187%22%2C%22commerce_rank_obj%22%3A%22%7B%5C%22target_id%5C%22%3A3568013953232187%2C%5C%22target_type%5C%22%3A0%2C%5C%22primary_position%5C%22%3A-1%2C%5C%22ranking_signature%5C%22%3A0%2C%5C%22commerce_channel%5C%22%3A503%2C%5C%22value%5C%22%3A0%2C%5C%22upsell_type%5C%22%3Anull%7D%22%7D
