  1. Proxy spot by my mate this morning of Derek C in Darlington in his red "SUP" at around 8ish near the railway station. Then, this afternoon, I got a flash of an ali with black wings on the road towards Darlington past Durham Tees Valley Airport at around 4.30 ish
  2. Thanks Chris........next North East mosie out. More tour than blat with crusing type roads. Initial rough outline is meet at Washington Services for around 9 to 9.30 for a 10am departure. Head off up through the Tyne Tunnel (obviously remembering to keep the revs down as it does really reverberate and echo in there and we wouldn't want that would we). Then, off up the coastal route and ultimately to Seahouses for the aforementioned Fish & Chips with a seaview. I'll get some more details of route and stopping points for those north of the Tyne so you can join in. Watch this space and emails over the next week or so. Kenty's plan originally so feel free to add Mr Trebel
  3. Can be a little tricky (possibly as my eyes are poor) but have a torch handy to shine through the top of the tank
  4. Black smoke sounds like unburnt fuel and would account for rough running. When the battery master switch was changed, have any sensors been inadvertently left without power? White smoke (water in combustion chamber) or blue smoke (oil) would be more worrying I would say? Sounds like the mapping has gone squiffy? Is it running on 4 cylinders but just really lumpy?

  6. A more relaxing time of year for shepherds or alternatively a device fitted to engines to act as a sort of heat exchanger ensuring water and oil temperatures match and speeding up oil getting to temp
  7. Oo err......"real". Poor Westies. Whilst personally not a fan of the look of a Westfield, one joined us on our blat on Sunday, and the driver was a thoroughly pleasant chap and he certainly had a "real" big smile on his face.
  8. Just checked Stu, ones I bought are 5/16ths UNF I'm afraid, would have sent a couple otherwise
  9. I've just bought some nuts and bolts from Westfield fasteners who seemed to have a good range of imperial sizes (both size and length), decent prices and really quick delivery
  10. There enough droning from that side of the car already Chris.......
  11. Chris......patient or perhaps determined or just a downright stupid belligerent insistence on trying to get something which in truth I probably don't ultimately need ha ha! (Delete as you see appropriate) 7WOTW.....please do, sounds like just what I'm after! I love the sound of my car "on song" (k series which is fairly modified), so much so that I want to supplement it with some additional and complementary induction rortiness
  12. Not a bad idea ECR, it is just to check the clearances with the additional movement of the backplate away from the TB's. Thinking about it a flat rectangle of wood at 25mm depth attached with a few fixings will let me see if it all works. Ta's for the idea (seems obvious now you've said it)
  13. Thanks 7WOTW, interesting that it didn't impact power and actually increased torque, I'm surprised at that. However, in truth (as daft as this may sound) my main reason for changing to the dome is driven by aesthetics and the desire for a bit more induction noise more than performance (I had thought that performance would just be a nice by product). Out of interest, do you have the 90mm trumpets? What size filter do you have on the end of the box as the one I have won't fit right at the end of the box (the cone end is too big)
  14. That's actually the exact one I have on the car with the ducting to the filter in the nosecone. It does fit perfectly but actually trying to go to a dome filter instead (though having not a great deal of luck so the airbox is back on for the time being).
  15. Many thanks again Ian, all arrived and perfect ready for a blat with the local group on Sunday. Not the best photo but fitted and ready to go one of the few things I've bought of late which have actually been easy to fit!
  16. Thanks Stu, that's on the list for investigation. Going to see if I can loan (or just buy from Jenvey subject to cost) some spacers too, as pushing the whole kit and caboodle out towards the side of the car an inch or so may create the required space. I should have perhaps listened to those who said "why" when I started this.....however, I wouldn't have had all this fun learning....
  17. Does anyone out there in 7 land have a set of 25mm deep throttle body spacers lying around to suit a Jenvey DTH 42mm set up on a 1.8k. I am in the process of (trying) to go from airbox to dome filter and have hit a couple of hurdles in the process. I believe that a set of spacers from Jenvey will help me clear the chassis rail and clutch cable but before I commit to (yet more) expenditure, just want to be sure that it will work with a mock up and I don't end up with more bits that don't fit. I will of course pay for postage to and from, and also willing to make a donation to a good cause of your choice if anyone out there has some and would be kind enough for a short term loan? As I say, I know its probably a bit of a longshot.............but hell, optimism never hurts Ta's in advance Paul
  18. Not sure but I can measure later (as I'm in the process of refitting the airbox as I'm out this weekend with some of the local group for a play). Top of air filter runs pretty parallel to fuel rail so probably a couple of inches clearance so potentially enough as the fuel rail lower than tip of cam cover and breather filter that's fitted? Would this not effect gearbox position though if I canted the engine over more?
  19. Here's a couple of pics with the new one one (with chassis rail off) so you can see what I mean re clutch
  20. It's fouling toward the rest (mainly ports 3 and 4) where the slots sit for the tabs at the bottom of the filter. For the sake of my sanity I did remove (then refit) the chassis rail and it went on (though the bottom of the filter still fouled against the clutch cable where it comes out of the pedal box so even then it was a pig to get it on). Car started out in life as a 1.6 supersport but has had the engine replaced with a 1.8 with a VHPD. When I bought it, it was as it is now with the airbox
  21. Bugger! Why is this so hard!! Have apparently bought the proper bit, at a fair old cost and it doesn't fit! If anyone needs me, you'll find me in the corner, sobbing again.......
  22. This may be the dimmest question I have ever asked, however now having bought the Jenvey dished back plate to clear the fuel rail, it is hitting the chassis leg (the holes the tabs on the bottom of the filter goes into) which runs from the pedal box to behind the front drivers side wheel (below photo running parallel to the blue coolant hose and with various wiring tie wrapped to it). Is it possible to run a 7 with this chassis brace removed? Or is that just dim? (it's bolted both ends so eminently removable and would still have one on passenger side anyways)
  23. I hope I never need it, but if I do, brilliant piece of support for others. Thank you!
  24. Haven't bought from UC so can't comment. Neither have I bought from Meteor Motorsport but know they sell some carbon bits and I have spoken to Simon a few times via phone and email and have found him thoroughly helpful so he may be worth a call
