    Radiator

I don't have an issue, I was merely describing my set-up and characteristics to Phil as a similar car. Get your point about location of sender Stu, but every car I've ever driven heats up when stationary and the fan kicks in? A product of airflow over the radiator rather than sender location surely? So whilst yes, moving the sensor would give a more accurate reading potentially, not sure I need to do it (plus, my mechanical skills and ability make me inclined to leave working bits well alone..........for fear that they may not end up being working afterwards)
  2. Ian, we've made Facebook fame too...... https://m.facebook.com/story.php?story_fbid=983164685227219&id=167128896771503
  3. Pleasure to meet both you and Zoe. Thanks for trekking up to join us. Turned out to be a cracker, really good roads and mainly free of traffic (though the 3 seperate sheep who wanted to jump out and headbutt the front my car when passing at speed were slightly hairy moments!)

Both the ECU and gauge sender's on rear of water rail above no.4, though my range is fairly stable between 80 - 85 usually so no worries for me

    Radiator

Phil, I'm K and remote QED, 82 degree stat, though dry dumped and the car is fitted with a Radtec radiator. Temperature cycles 80 to 85 as thermostat opens and closes when moving. On a cooler day, sticks more around 82. In traffic will rise, but ECU fan switch kicks in at 94 and I've also got an override switch. Oil (comma motorsport 5w50) usually runs at 75-80, will get a bit warmer in traffic. Only done 1 track day and 1 handling day, water temp was up though fan took care of it and oil up at c. 100 to 105 after thrashing.
  6. You just have to get used to pressing the pedals with just one toe! I can remember when I picked up my first 7, after about 3 miles I stopped and took my shoes off!
  7. It does make me wonder though, if the advice on this sites GTKY7 article says cruciform, yet some say this can be damaging? Mind you, the highest likelihood of anything being bent in my car is me putting my post holiday wieght into it.....
  8. Trolley jack is under the cruciform (chassis cross underneath behind the nose) and then axle stands either side of the jack. There's a great article in Get To Know Your 7 (GTKY7) on the homepage (I used it loads to start with)
  9. Look forward to it Ian. The meeting is tomorrow at the Old Mill (though not hugely 'local' for you. Feel free to give me a call or drop a mail (number and email address on the North East page) if you've any questions about the meeting or the blat
  10. London's fun for a visit, but it's too intense for my liking. Great things to see and do, bit couldn't do it everyday. Have fun exploring.
  11. Hope you're not defecting groups......or are you simply spying? Looking forward to both HWR and the blat. A full weekend of sevening!
  12. Ok, OK , I admit, the title may be overly grand, but it was the Great North Run yesterday and well, the North is pretty great.... Anyhows, subject to weather and a chinwag at the monthly meet this coming Wednesday, planning for Sunday 16th. Meeting at Billingham Services (A19/A689 junction) for food, fuel and coffee at 9-9.30, then heading across to Guisborough Subway (oooh we do all the swanky places oop North) for a secondary meeting point for 10 with an aim to start the blat proper at 10.30. Route subject to tweaks but something like.....Birk Brow, Casleton, across Blakey Ridge and down to Hutton Le Hole. Then Pickering and then back northward up past Dalby Forest toward Sleights. We will perhaps go via Goathland (depending on how many Heartbeat fans are in attendance), head to Danby and stopping at the Birk Brow car park for cheerios (pleasantries as opposed to breakfast cereal). There'll be stops along the way for refreshments etc. About 90 or so miles in a sort of circle. Let me know if you fancy joining or catch me on Wednesday at the Old Mill if you're there.
  13. Certain things I will accept with an electric motor Derek.....a company car for the tax benefit, the electric motor in my coffee machine that grinds the beans, the one that is in a Maccie P1 or 918 Porker or similar, the one in the hoover (cleanliness and godliness and all that), the toothbrush one. However, and no matter even if it was faster or better, never one in a 7! The heart of a 7 is surely the mechanical bashing together of fuel and air and sparks to make noise and speed and smells and sensation! And perhaps, as this thread is indicating, me and electrickery, aren't working out to well at the moment!
  14. Nah, never get rid Derek, just a little frustrating whilst I learn all of the idiosyncrasies.
  15. Looking at that view, definitely think yours is swung outward more than mine (my oil line goes a different way and not through the belt like yours)
  16. Mine is a lot closer to the frame, but if you zoom into my pic, probably still 10mm gap or so?
  17. I have a Bosch alternator Anthony, was confused, it's a Brise starter motor I have. Looked at Brise for a new alternator, but didn't have enough spare fundage so got the original repaired with a new regulator etc for a very reasonable £68 (though I am now getting re-repaired having broken the new plug with the exhaust clearance problem, but lesson now learned and backplate and plug getting moved). Aside from the original broken plug the alternator was pretty goosed, but worked spot on when rebuilt the first time with correct charge and after a couple of days on the conditioner, battery was also OK so once I've moved the plug/backplate, good to go out blatting again.
  18. No, S3 with a K and a Bosch alternator. There is very little movement to tighten the belt (grooved type stretch belt) so that may be the difference? The belt is a pig to get on and off even with the tensioner bracket off
  19. Took a pic tonight as it happens as I was dismantling, not the best pic
  20. Have mailed powerspeed but no response as yet so was hoping POBC may have sped up my progress. The front of the alternator has about 2 inches clearance from sideskin and about an inch both up and away from the bottom rail
  21. Being an expert in auto electrics and stuff like that, my personal view is it's completely broked, definitely not a simple, quick or cheap fix, probably totally uneconomical to repair. Potentially hazardous too. Probably best to give up on the whole debacle. In fact, as I am a kindly soul, what I'll do is go grab a tow rope and go drag it out of your garage (I will leave a box of tesco finest Belgian biscuits in the place where the car stood, well, what's left of a box anyways) and you'll be better off rid of it. I know, you don't have to say it, I'm all heart. Enjoy Scotland's isles!
  22. EEK, or indeed anyone, do you have the fitting instructions for a powerspeed on a K series so I can get the rotation right on the alternator (seen a 135 regress and a 7 o'clock mentioned). About to start stripping and rebuilding again now I know I need to tweak the alternator and want to get it right. Thanks in advance

  24. No exhaust had to be off JK, but made replacing the plugs feasible too. Thanks for the link
