  1. Have decided to keep it after a short blast, also I think I could loose a fortune after the 2030 bombshell!
  2. I think a trailer is a good idea, I have a camper van so that's the accommodation sorted.
  3. I did consider a Cayman but I was put off by the IMS bearing problem, plus I didn't think it would be much fun on the track. It is not the getting in and out of the Caterham that is an issue, I find driving it over 200 miles to track day is not the best with the UK's varrible weather. I was assuming an Elise would be much better with a roof and a heater. I think I need to try one.
  4. Crikey, they look worse than a Caterham for ease of entry. I have never even tried to get in one let alone driven one, although I don't think that will be a problem yet, I've a while to go before a zimmer frame.
  5. I think the Quaife diff is the one to use if you are mainly using the car on the road.
  6. Anyone got one or driven one? I'm thinking of changing my Caterham for something a bit more comfortable. I don't have a trailer and driving to track days is not great, plus my wife refuses to get in it. I think it would have to be a higher powered version of the Elise as I think the lower powered ones will feel a bit of a damp squib after a Caterham
  7. I fitted one, I did not want the hassle of having to regularly service a plate type diff. Plate type diff can be noisy and clunky. However if you are using the car for motorsport and fractions of seconds matter these are the type to use. I got my Quaife diff from Burtons they were offering huge discounts at the time. I only fitted one due to fact I had to change my diff ratio, you don't need one on the road unless you drive like a loon or have poor tyres. I was running a 150 bhp K series on 185/60 14 888 tyres on track days and I never found having an open diff to be a problem.

    Brakes

Thanks , something to think about. I have never driven any other Caterhams so I have nothing to compare it to. I have suffered some minor brake fade at Croft before at a non Caterham track day but I was leaving the braking to the last minute, not the best driving. In theory my front brakes should have more power as I have gone from a 185/60 14 to a 185/60 13 which is a smaller diameter.

    Brakes

Thanks I'm running Mintex 1144 in the rear and Ferodo DS 2500 in the front, they seem to lack bite and require an extremely large amount of pedal pressure however the pedal travel is almost zero. Probably the result of the master cylinder. My back brakes seem to run very hot the discs turn blue and also the pad wear is faster at the rear, but this is probably down to the compound. I have felt the brakes go off a bit at Croft but it has 2 long straights and this was with a standard screen, I was worried about using an areo screen due to the reduced drag. The brake balance seems fine with a slight bias to the rear under maximum braking.

Thanks, that's the name I couldn't remember!, are you using 13 inch wheels?

    Brakes

I have the standard Triumph calipers fitted to the front of my Caterham and the AP racing mastercylinder. The feel of the brakes and balance is superb however since the engine has been upgraded to just short of 200bhp they are lacking a little bit on track days. Do the higher performance Caterhams have vented front discs? I have 13 wheels so there is not a huge amount of room to fit a larger rotor. I am concerned that if I fit a 4 piston caliper I will ruin the brake balance. Ideally I would like to fit a larger rotor or a vented rotor with a 2 piston alloy caliper, I found a company that supplies all types of different alloy calipers with all sorts of piston combinations ( can't remember the name ) but I have not got a clue, there seems to be so many options.
  12. I think there is a Rotrex kit available for the K series as fitted to the Elise. You would need to to some re- engineering of the pulley work and brackets to fit in a 7. I briefly looked at a kit to fit my 1.4 K series wet liner engine, these engines are very strong.
  13. I hope you remember how wide the rear is and don't cycle to many Sustrans routes!
  14. Great wheels I just purchased a set. They seem to be well made, better quality than the Caterham 14 inch Minilight replicas. They also have lots of different offsets available. I went with 6x13 front and 7x13 rear et 23. I had to file off a tiny amount from the Dedion ear.
  15. Hi I am running the same spec engine as you with forged pistons. As far as I am aware oil jets are not required. I don't know anything about the oil capacity of the pump. I would contact Dave Andrews or Oilyhands on this forum and ask his advice
  16. I had the hot start problem and it was caused by a poor earth
  17. Thanks, I have 7 inch wheels so it was only just catching. I filed a mild chamfer and I now have loads of clearance.
  18. Hi thanks, most of what was catching seemed to be the aluminium shim, but I filed a chamfer on the edge of the tube
  19. I have my 13 inch wheels fitted and I could hear slight rubbing? It turns out they are catching the De Dion tube, only just. I think it my just be the alloy shim but there is not much room. How much clearance is considered acceptable, before I attack my freshly powered coated De Dion tube. They would clear if I fitted a 1 mm shim, interestingly if I corner hard I can hear them rub

Thanks I'll give them a miss

    Wheel Studs

Thanks, I have 7.5 turns so I'll change them, have found some 47mm Escort studs Grayston M12 x 1.50 Ford Wheel Stud 47mm Long. I assume these will fit? that will fill the nut completely. I managed to get the anti roll bar out just, it is the over slung type, I had to remove one damper assembly and it was tight! The anti roll bar was just badly made and one of the ears required a bit of bending. It's all back together with plenty clearance

Has anyone used their front wings and if so are they any good?

    Wheel Studs

Are all rear wheel studs the same length, mine are 36mm, I have just replaced my 14 inch wheels with Revolution 13 inch 4 spoke wheels, I must say they are very well made. The rear wheel hub is slightly thicker, I only have 12/13mm of stud engaging the nut. Is this enough. I am using an ET20 7x13 the right hand side clears the anti roll bar drop link by at least 25mm but the left hand side is almost touching the tyre. I have a top mounted anti roll bar can I get it out without moving anything else, it looks like it needs some judicious bending in the vice
  24. 2018 Himalayan 2800 miles ridiculously slow, however it's fun to ride if you stay off dual carriage ways. Metal panniers, heated grips,Givi engine bars, alloy handle bars, front pre load caps. Bought for a trip to Iceland that was canceled. Not in the best condition some corroded fasteners and spokes but you need to look hard to notice them £2750
  25. Thanks I had no idea, I will be using 185/60 13 and I am currently on 14 inch wheels and I thought there must be a lower set of stays
