To the OP. I'd get that thinner oil out of there pronto chap ! Oil does IMHO make a big difference for Xflows and Valvoline VR1 20w 50 mineral racing oil is the best for your car. I also use an additive as mine hasn't got an unleaded head ( I use Castrol Valvemaster ...managed to buy in bulk before they discontinued it). My car is a 1990 Xflow Supersprint - 24k on the clock
Lol ! Bizarrely the drivers side slid on relatively easily ( 5 mins) - and yes I know they’re handed boots and they are each on the correct side - but the passenger side boot was an absolute pig. Anyway, job done thank you chaps for help and advice.
Morning gents thanks for posting Finally got one of them on before I lost the light - off to do the other side shortly. Pig of a job though eh? In the end I heated the boot in hot water covered the TRE in wd40, a swirl of grease and then used a teaspoon as a tyre lever then it eventually went on.
Thanks Jonathan Sorted but just cannot get the wider end of the boot over the lip of the rack... tried heating, lube, grease, everything... beyond frustrating
Sorry ... being a bit fick. ....halfway through the job for Stuart’s trick which end do I unscrew A or B ( do I put spanner’s on both and hold the end not being slackened also, how do you get the thin end of the boot on ? cheers folks

Morning all Someone said that BC had slowed down in providing helpful hints/tips .... I think it's still great in that respect so here goes ! Gaiter on the drivers side has split when I was washing the car. Covered it with wrap and car under cover until it's sorted - couple of questions: - how easy are they to replace (never done one) and is there a guide that anyone's aware of that some helpful soul has put together ? I'm pretty handy with the car just never changed a boot ! - best place to source the boots from, Caterham never seem to have anything in stock? - any tips from people who have replaced before/things I need to watch for? - Do I need to have the suspension/steering checked once it's all put back together ? Any help much appreciated.

As it's so new I'd insist on replacement . My car (ancient - 1990 xflow) had a crack in the tank which someone had attempted to repair before i owned it. Without warning one day it ruptured and dumped a full tank all over the filling station (had to close temporarily while they ran about for sand and other products). Not good.

As to the age it's tricky as not much is known before 1802 but this is quoted on wiki and sounds right looking at the other local buildings and style: "It is believed that Sleddale Hall was the home of William Rawes, Yeoman of Sleddale sometime between 1740 and 1758".
Indeed they have !! I know the new owner Tim (architect) ..that's him on the steps with me .... and have been up there for a couple of Picnic Cinema's Withnail & I weekends where you can watch the film. Last year the good lady and I went in character (other pic attached) and went on holiday by mistake.
