    Hi Paul / All Yes you may be right (damages claim) and I'm not holding my breath but if nothing else it might make them look at the signage at that particular pump (one guy on another forum identified the pump number I'd filled at before I even volunteered the info)! If it helps stop someone else from doing it then it's worth it. Bottom line it's my fault but I have never even come close to doing it before and am fastidious in checking so - given others doing the same thing at the same pump - then there must be something that's making people shove the wrong pump in thinking that it's petrol....can't all be coincidence/absentmindedness.

    Hi all Thanks Paul - appreciate your words ! have now heard from 2 ( and possibly three) people who have done the same thing, all at the same garage. I’m driving out there tomorrow to look at the pumps and if they’re poorly marked will make a claim against Shell. The car is now fine and running A1 but it was a horrible feeling

    Thanks Ivaan/All I’m still absolutely furious at my own abject stupidity to be honest - thanks to James Whiting the car has been running better than ever and I go and do something utterly brainless like that... The missus has said that she has never seen me so crestfallen....oh well, a lesson learned. Thanks guys, HWS

    Ran it for about a mile before it conked out and car now recovered home on a low loader anyone done it ? Is it recoverable by flushing out the tank a few times and running unleaded through the fuel system ? I feel physically sick - the car was running perfectly

    Hi Andy - I was always told (very firmly) to use a mineral oil in my crossflow - Valvoline VR1 ... (EDIT: Sorry Andy, my fault for not reading the start of the thread...didn't see you'd had a rebuild !)

    Morning As some of you know I had a lot of issues with the car over the last 12 months until James Whiting got hold of it and sorted her out once and for all. I had the chokes taken of the Webers when they were rebuilt last last year but the car does seem fussier/harder to start/needs a lot of cranking. Consequently I get lots of plug fouling issues (sooty) due to the mix being rich on start up/idle. I'm running NGK B8ECS plugs but notice that some Xflow bods reckon BP7ES plugs suit the 1700 Supersprint better. Maybe I need to get them balanced on a r/road Out of interest, and addressed to the Xflow people: 1). Which plug do you prefer ? 2). What's your Xflow starting technique to minimise fouling ? Ta ! HWS

    Ha ! Excellent - just looking at your car I think you and I have met before, you dropped your car at JWs a couple of months back and I said hello (mine was a red xflow Supersprint :-) ....and yes James is the man !

    Oh I see...the pic of the OTHER love of my life lol !!! I used to get a strange whine from the front of the car when cornering.....but since I got the headphones I don't hear her anymore
