  1. A very interesting read. I’m now thinking of de-catting my 1.6 K series. I’m running at 190 BHP and mid range drops off a bit. I’m also lucky my MOT station is very sympathetic about this sort of thing. Where should I look for a Cat bypass? Roger.
  2. I did a run up to Buckie from home in Argyll last back end with AO 48s on rear 13” 205s & 13” R888s 185s on front. I would have been quicker with an outboard motor on the back it was so wet. I have since discovered the tyres I bought the car with (AO 48s all round) where actually 4 years older than the car, now 11yrs old. In short I now have R888Rs on the rear which others say are good in the wet. So just waiting for all the rain to clear the salt off the roads so I can try them out. Roger.
  3. Do you know how old they are ? Roger.
  4. Yes Nick please give me a call on 07769886577. Kind regards, Roger.
  5. Thanks Nic, I'm guessing you know Charles Carter who now lives in the next village to me! Roger.
  6. I'm interested if Nick doesn't buy, Roger
  7. Thanks Phil, However on Tech Talk the consensus is the SV wont fit. Roger.
  8. Thanks Jonathan, That answers my question. Roger.
  9. Can anyone advise if an SV will fit on a Brian James Minnow trailer & would it be suitable. I have checked the dimensions online and it looks tight. Roger
  10. Hi Phil, I'm interested in the trailer. Do you know if it will carry an SV ? If so could you send me photos. Thanks, Roger.
  11. Paul, Just as an aside I have just renewed the badly perished filler hose at 9 years. A replacement from Think automotive was about half the price of one from Caterham plus its a more heavy duty hose. Roger.
  12. Thanks Paul, I know there is no way it can migrate with a conventional bell-housing. I just wondered if there is some way it can from the tank around this dry sump system. I have topped up as much as 200 ml in the past. I've also added Wynns transmission oil treatment to try and prevent the leak.

    under steer

I'm certainly no expert however I read recently on a Toyo website that simply adjusting tyre pressues to balance the car. Lower fronts and/or raise rears to reduce understeer. I hope this isn't stating the bleadin obvious.
  14. I have had a gear box oil leak which I have been topping up periodically. However on the last two occasions oil has run out of the filler plug when removed. On the first occasion I thought it was because the car wasn't level having run the front wheels up ramps. So this time I ran the rear wheels up ramps thinking I would be able to top up the oil that ran out last time, however more ran out. I have the 5 speed box and K series with dry sump (Tank around bell housing). The oil seems thinner than gear oil. Is it possible that engine oil is migrating to the gear box? Roger.
  15. My tin top is also an Insgnia driven on the West Coast of Scotland. I had my second service earlier this year at 34k miles with no significant uneven brake pad wear. However was advised I needed new discs and pads all round as they where down to the metal. Quoted over £500 to replace with after market parts.. I drove the car home, carefully, and did the job myself for less than half the cost with good qaulity parts. Incidentally they where not down to the metal but near. Sorry I can't cast light on the uneven wear phenomenon but thought my similar experience may be relevant.
  16. Yep I will have it. Separate message sent. Roger.
  17. Thank you for your responses. Further to these and another from mytyres I have now fitted them. See latest response from mytyres giving a fuller explanation. I still think it doesn't make sense having the tread running in opposite directions, however lets see how they work! 'We would like to inform you that if the tread pattern seems to have a different orientation on either side of the car, this will not change anything with the overall performance of the tyre. There will be no problem if the grooves on one side of the car point upwards and on the other side downwards, after you fit these asymmetric tyres. The long, steep grooves on the outer shoulder of the tyres are designed to direct as much water as possible to the outside via the shortest way and therefore in shortest possible time. These tyres are designed in such a way that the water can be drained in the direction of the shoulder, to the outside, as well as in direction of the deep circumference grooves. The angle in which they run has no impact on the aquaplaning performance and the driving comfort of the tyre. ' Roger.
  18. I have just received two new R888Rs for the rear of my car and if I fit them as per the inside/outside markings it would appear that the right tyre is running in the wrong direction. I have questioned this with mytyres please see their response:- Re: RD 32165655 UK1015613 ID Ivana Dragisic <ivana.dragisic@delti.com> Reply| Today, 08:23 You ATT00001.txt315 bytes 2 attachments (2 MB) Download all Save all to OneDrive - Personal Dear Mr Beecroft, Thank you for your e-mail. We would like to inform you that Toyo Proxes R888R is an asymmetric tyre so it can be used in any position on the vehicle. It is very important however, to follow such wording as 'inside' and 'outside' on the tyre's sidewall to ensure that the tyre is fitted 'the right way round. It simply doesn't make sense to me. Your thoughts please. Roger.
  19. Having been out of internet for a few weeks I have just driven home from NE Scotland with more tail happy moments. And now caught up with more posts. Thanks guys especially Madcat at Silverstone ! So that's it ill get the rears replaced with R888's to match the front. Silly question but I guess R888R's are out of the question for the rear when the front are R888's. Its just that they are £25 each cheaper on mytyres? Roger.
  20. I have just discovered the rear tyres on my car where manufactured in 2005. Some 4 years before the car was first registered. I have other issues with the dealer which is another story! I now feel this could explain why the car is tail happy even in the dry & not just the 190 bhp on such a light weight car ! I have new Toyo proxes R888s on the front which are grippy in the dry. I cant decide whether to buy a full set of road tyres (Cheaper) as I dont do track days or put some R888s on the rear. I like the strong side wall as this was like having a run flat when I lost pressure in a front, as I do not have a spare. Thoughts please. Roger.
  21. Dixa, I have just had a similar experience and ended up replacing the electronic gauge and pressure sender with a mechanical gauge connected directly to the pressure sender tapping point. I also took the opportunity to add a low pressure switch and warning light Think Automotive where very helpfull and provided the whole kit for £125.39. See all the discussions I went through on this frum. Roger. https://www.lotus7.club/forum/techtalk/k-series-oil-pressure-warning-light

    Towing a 7

Ellie, Am I missing something in the continuity between your posts No 12 &15 of this thread. They seem to contradict each other. So far you are the only one to recommend single axle ? Roger.

    Towing a 7

Ok thanks Guys. I'm now havering towards a single axle trailer. The Lider single axle up to 1300 kg gross looks good value and lightweight. Has anyone experience of these ? Roger
