  1. Thanks guys that all makes sense.
  2. I'd like to take my 7 through France to Spain on my car trailer. When I Google this it suggests in France I'm limited to 750 KG gross. Surely this can't be correct as people tour Europe with caravans.
  3. Well thanks ECR that makes more sense. For my single axle trailer running on 155/70R12 104/101 N tyres. Each tyre is rated at 900kg Max pressure 95 PSI Anticipated Gross weight of Trailer + Car = 1062 kg My calculation: 95 divide by 900 x 531 = 56 PSI.
  4. Having just purchased an Ifor Williams CT 115 single axle trailer for my 7 I'm surprised to see the recommended pressure is 95 PSI. As this is the max stated pressure on the Cargomax tyres I would have expected the running pressure would be somewhat less. I'm interested to know others views.
  5. That looks a great price. I'm surprised is hasn't got a sold sticker by now.
  6. Success, new cap and spindle seal fitted. The cap is now secured with seizing wire as suggested by Steve and sealed with Loctite silicone sealant. It was necessary to make a 44mm diam hole in the transmission tunnel to allow the cap to be drifted in with some force. It looks like I've been fortunate as it only required circa 600ml of gear oil to replenish and the gearbox has run fine today.
  7. Thanks again guys. I'm just hoping I haven't wrecked my gearbox as it happened at the end of a long Croft track day. Blanking cap ordered and that's a great plan to use seizing wire to retain the cap.
  8. Got her up on axle stands and yes the oil has come from the speedo drive. The cap on the opposite side to the seal is missing. So my initial plan is to source a new cap and fit as described by SM25T before attempting to replace the seal. Any suggestions on where to source the cap. I''ve emailed Red Line, but not sure which Type 9 gearbox I have, type A, B or C. Hopefully they are the same although don't look it in the exploded views. Roger.
  9. Thanks guys, I'll give it a go.
  10. Thanks, Jonathan PM sent.
  11. I dumped a large quantity oil from my gearbox yesterday with a sudden severe oil leak. On first investigation it appears to of come from the speedo cable drive oil seal. Is this a common fault and is it possible to replace this seal in situe?
  12. Having just missed one of these small single axle trailers for sale does anyone out there have one they wish to part with.
  13. Success! To sum up - Following Minister Instructions on Basic setup of Caterham Roller Throttle Bodies available elsewhere on Tech talk. Throttle bodies balanced using an air flow meter. No 2 cylinder required subtle modification (using a round file to open up the crescent aperture at min opening. Taking care by stuffing a rag into the throttle body to catch aluminum filings complimented with vacuuming out) Removing TPS to file slots in the two securing bolt holes so as to allow adjustment of sensor to achieve correct reading of 0.45 ohm at tick over position. This required repeating the steps many times, adjusting the tick over setting screw and re checking the resistance of the TPS as adjustment of one would upset the other. Finally no miss fire and engine ticking over smoothly at 1000 RPM. Many thanks to Oily and other posts. We learn so much from this resource.
  14. Trying to remove the TPS so as to elongate the holes to allow adjustment to the correct resistance I have eventually loosened all the screws on the TPS and mounting plate. However I still can't see how the TPS is removed.
  15. Thanks guys, yes mine is a K.
  16. Thanks Oily I wasn't aware the reset didn't work on MBE's.. I have adjusted the TPS and its maximum alignment only gives me 0.41 ohms not the 0.45 stated in the Minister guide.
  17. I've now balanced air flow as close as I can get at 1000rpm., cyl 1 to 4 at 6.2, 6.7, 5.9 & 6.5 kg/hr respectively. Then carrying out the MBE reset by depressing the throttle 5 times with ignition on. I'm still getting a slight miss fire on No1, about 16/min, which clears above about 1500 rpm. The lumpy running at tick over is what started me to try this rebalancing process.

  19. Thanks Oily. As you say no air bleeds and I've done a compression test which was good. So I'll go for setting the aft 2 cylinders to 6.5 before modifying the barrel.
  20. Attempting to balance the T.B.s according to the Minister guide & there is an imbalance between No 1 & the other cylinders. 1 being at 7kg/hr and the rest at 6. As there is only a means to adjust between the two pairs any suggestions how this can be resolved.
  21. That's a shame as its just what I'm looking for. I wish I had seen this a week ago as I was passing through Kent on my way back to Scotland.
  22. Yes that could well be the case however it could have been an earlier bearing that has spun in the casing as this one looks in good shape. Is there a method of removing the bearing without dismantling the gearbox and using a bearing puller. I have tried by removing the inner circlip and then prising the bearing along the shaft with screwdrivers under the outer circlip. Clearly the bearing is an interference fit on the shaft as it wont move this way and also could be problematic refitting. What I'm hoping to do is refit the bearing in the gearbox with loctite bearing fit to take up the clearance using feeler guages to centralise in the housing.
