All done, that was easy. I cut down one of my spanners [fortunately I have duplicates] for the nut closest to the engine, made the job a cinch, primaries still in place. I already had a shim on the problematic stud but shortening it would be a better solution. I might well look into that when I refit my own starter. On a seperate note, I looked into to opportnity of a lightness upgrade. My original starter weighs almosrt bang on 3kg and the spacer plate a further 300g. I notice the Brise upspec one is heavier so I wont be doing that. A refurb will do for me! Pic below of cut off spanner* [to miss the top chassis rail] which I hope might help someone else.
