Hi Tazio, If you really want to keep the car as it was delivered back in the day then you should be using the mini based rack as I believe your car, as does mine, pre-dates the Caterham branded item. Cheers, Brian.
https://www.lotus7.club/forum/techtalk/rear-brake-discs-de-dion-axle-and-standard-sierra-calipers last discussed in January. Correct bolts are 79085 . Cheers, Brian.
Maybe I'm underselling these wheels. I have 7 in total, 4off shown without tyres that you would probably want to repaint, and three with tyres that require blasting. I also have 4 hub caps to suit. Brian.
According to my 1990 parts listing, 73037 is "fuel tank, all chassis ( aluminium )". At that time CC were producing live axle cars in both short (original) and long cockpit form which would suggest that it would fit in your car. Brian.
Hi, I've got a collection of the Lotus steels in various states of disrepair that I may be persuaded to part with...however I would much prefer that you inspected them before purchase. Are you willing to travel ?? I am in the Chesterfield area, close to M1 Jn 29. They might be a little bit cheaper than the e-bay set!! Brian.
My 1990 5speed car used part no. 72287 "angle drive cable 5 speed" and 72283 "angle drive speedo/gearbox" neither of which can be found on the Caterham site. Perhaps they changed supplier of the angle drive gearbox which required a different quill drive?? Brian.
The bolts used on my 1990 car are listed as part no. 79085. These appear on the Caterham site here :- https://caterhamparts.co.uk/fittings/420-bolts-fia-roll-over-bar-special.html?search_query=79085&results=1 Not surprising they can't be found! Brian.
I have for sale a pre-crossflow cylinder head casting number 2730E 6090A which I believe to be from the very early MKII Cortina 1300. The head was removed from a running engine but has spent the last 30+ years sat under my bench so is being offered as suitable for rebuild. Price £85. Brian. Edited to add :- this is a standard, unmodified, undamaged head with all good threads , no broken studs etc and no visible cracks.
Can't get the video to work(need to sign in?) so I haven't heard the noise, but I was wondering if the engine still uses hydraulic tappets? If so, could the noise be from the cam clearances opening up if the oil is not filling the tappets?? Brian.
Nick, be VERY wary of swopping a Lotus rack for a Triumph one. Not only did Lotus fit rack limiting spacers inside the units but were also known to use bespoke length trackrods..at least they did with the elan/plus 2 range . Check any replacement very carefully before fitting. Where is the play in your rack? The inner balljoints are shimmed so theoretically could be adjusted, and the rack tube contains a replaceable bush if the play is between the rack bar and the housing..triumph part no. 128002 in stock at several online suppliers for a few pounds. The track limiting spacers normally consist of a thick washer welded to the inner trackrod ball joint housing locknut at the pinion end and either the same or a loose sleeve slipped over the rack bar at t'other side. All should be visible once you have peeled back the gaiters. Brian.
Guy, just been and looked at the car..it appears that my memory is fading,as the heater is offset to the passenger side! The center of the left hand forward mounting hole is 205mm from the edge of the car, the hole centers between the mounting points being 276mm as you quote above. Manual states that you will need to 'drill a 3/8" hole in the vertical bulkhead behind the heater approx 5" up and 15" in from the lefthand side edge of the chassis in order that the wires can be passed through a grommet to connect with the loom.' Cheers, Brian.
Guy, my 1990 De-dion car heater is held in with self tapping screws and large washers to cover the holes....All as per the build manual! From memory the heater sits centrally over the tunnel .I can check the manual later to see if it quotes any dimensions. Brian.
Chassis number of my 1990 car is KLD****R. Translates as Kit car,Long cockpit,De-dion chassis,****(unit number),Rhd. The unit number of mine is roughly 1100 higher than yours, so would guess at 87/88 vintage. Brian.
