O.G.
I'm looking for any ideas of how and where to mount my phone, preferably in portrait, in my 2015 SV standard dash. I'm expecting to use it mainly for Sat Nav but who knows after that.I don't mind drilling the odd hole or minor rework. There have been a few false starts so I thought it was time to go to the experts for some "blue sky thinking" (that's management speak I'm told).Any pictures might help.O.G. Benton
As there isn't a lot of real estate windscreen IMO to look through in the first place, with my SV I used a suction mount with adjustable arm stuck to the dash next to the brake/hazard switches The phone "hovering" in front of the them, though still accessible and visible. For my S3 I prefer to use the same suction mount but attached to the fuse/relay cover, If I need to carry some long legged passengers! then I can easily attach to the dash as before but this has the disadvantage of slightly obscuring the fuel gauge (not that I trust it that much anyway )An advantage of it being mounted lower down is that there is less temptation for a opportunist passerby thief to reach in and grab - not that I frequent such areas! I've noticed before there's a centre mount offered on EBay https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Caterham-Seven-7-Phone-Holder-Bracket-Brodit-Proclip-RAM-AMPS-mount-RHD-or-LHD-/293979086187?_trksid=p2349624.m46890.l49292 but it looks it'll compromise the instrument/forward view, specially with the current phones on steroids. Leadership Team SLR No.77 Posted March 28, 2021 Leadership Team Share Posted March 28, 2021 I have the one in Benton's ebay link, it fits without drilling any holes in the dash and can itself be drilled to take a variety of phone mounts. I use it with a Quadlock mount (stickie pad) on my iPhone enabling quick swapping between portrait and landscape format.Stu.
Guy Lowe
I use THIS ONE
John Vine
I use one of these: The phone will mount at any angle. I use landscape so as not to obscure the OP gauge.JV

L66TEY
This is my set up, by "3D-print-shack" via eBay and a Brodit cradle. No need to drill holes and the Brodit cradle can twist to be landscape or portrait. Chris
Darrenkidney
As a first step to a 3D print, I'm testing some Aluminium sheet shaped as a landscape holder - due to space limitations. For the moment held by velcro and a bit rattly.
Blackmamba
Hi JohnI am in need of a phone mount as mine kept falling off during spirited driving yesterday. How does this one manage, had any issues or is it pretty secure? Thanks
Blackmamba
Hi JonathanThis looks like potentially the least invasive solution, same question for you, any issues, with it falling off or vibration etc? Thanks
John Vine
Re #9:If you mean the Ranvoo in #5, it sticks like a limpet and hasn't fallen off in 3+ years. It's basically a magnetic mount that attaches to the dash via a sticky foam pad. The kit includes a thin plastic film and a steel disc to stick onto the back of the phone.JV

O.G.
I've gone for the "Verce" option - thanks Jonathan! It was only £4 and all you have to disturb is the Dash Edge Trim. The only reservation I have is has the UJ ball joint stiff enough to hold the weight of the phone on bumpy roads. It was OK on a short test drive. Will report after a more vigorous test.O.G. JonT
I've also bought a verce on Jonathan's suggestion and it works pretty well. I used it in landscape mode and on a 2 hour blat on some lumpy fen roads it was fine. I've also used it in portrait in the other car and it also works well. The only difficulty I've had is that the clip strength is quite aggressive and I struggled to get it off the vent in the other car. The mount will pull off the clip - I might use some glue on that. But otherwise it's one of the better phone holders I've used.
Nillbymouth
My option is about as simple as it can be. It does require a carpeted tunnel as it consists of only a strip of the hook part of velcro. The phone also needs to be landscape but the advantage is that the display is usually out of sunlight so can be seen easier. All I do is tuck the phone case under a long strip of velcro which attaches to the carpet each side of the tunnel.
