Fastinmydreams
I need to replace my front brake pads on my Super Sport. It is fitted with the uprated Caterham calipers. Can someone let me know what pads I need to replace them? Can't find this information in my searches.

Fastinmydreams
Hi Jonathan. Road and track. I haven't used it much in the last two years, hence overhaul. I would mostly use it on the track, but my son does some road work in the summer, so pads don't need to be too hard to get working.

Leadership Team SLR No.77 Posted January 27, 2020 Leadership Team Share Posted January 27, 2020 For fast road and track use the Mintex 1144 is often the preferred pad, you'll need to bed them in correctly though. For mostly road use with more occasional track work the "standard" pad (which I believe is a Mintex 1142) is actually very good. It's worth noting that there's no servo in the Caterham system so don't confuse the need to push harder with the need to run different pads!Stu. StevehS3
Doesn't it depend on what's fitted on the rear, to get the correct balance?
7 wonders of the world
Yes.ISTR the pads CC supply for the AP 4 pots is Mintex 1144, remeber another member getting a set about 18 months ago.
Leadership Team SLR No.77 Posted January 27, 2020 Leadership Team Share Posted January 27, 2020 It does depend upon what's on the back although IME it's better to match the back to the front not the other way round. In the past I've had standard pads for the AP big brakes from Caterham and they've been Mintex 1142, I think it's probably varied over the years. Fastinmydreams
Thanks all; very helpful! I will be changing the pads front and rear as part of the overhaul. I'm assuming that the rear calipers are standard. I take it that the Mintex 1144 is the pad type and that I will need parts numbers for each set of pads or a knowledgeable supplier! rj
With the uprated AP brakes at the front you don't want anything grippier on the front than what the come with from Caterham as this will offset the bias to the front even more than the setup does already. I have moved the offset backwards by fitting more aggressive rears than the "blue dot" rears Caterham supply. I must stress that this is not road legal, but it made the car behave like I wanted it to.
7 wonders of the world
'blue spot' are I belive a Delphi compound, again these were meant for racing with the 4 pot AP set up with a light car and single occupant, sticky tyres etc if your on the road or running 2 up, spare wheel or touring with kit then you need more rear bias as the increased load permits a greater braking capacity. Wrightpayne
I recall speaking to two brothers years ago who competed. They recommended Hawk blue pads. At the time it was not a brand I'd heard of.No experience of them just one of those memories that has just been unlocked!Ian
