Mike Biddle
Just to be different, I use castrol 10/60, it's around 25 pounds for 4 litres here. No complaints so far, but since you would'nt know untill you blew your engine I would always use the best quality avaible as a matter of course. Pierre Gillet
Mike , I would agree that there might be a small risk. However, when I was taking my advanced engineering degree at the French Petroleum Institute, we would buy our oil ( at that time - early '70s- I was racing a Renault Gordini) at the Institute. It was a generic oil not commercialized outside, and I never experienced any engine failure at least apparently caused directly by the oil. I recognize though that these engines'RPMs were lower than now on the DOHC Rover engines and that we were re-building up our engines more often.) AndreK
I noticed very recently that Castrol Formula RS is now 0W/40 grade rather than 10W/60 as it used to be. It may be worth considering although its around £29 for 4 litres.

Fast Westie
Any of you with a Zetec should consider the Ford 5W30. Using think oil in these can cause the tappets to jack up leading to pistons and valves occupyng the same space - Ouch. As for the Castrol RS 10W60, I don't seem too lucky with this. Used it twice in my Cosworth, both times ending with a blown cam cover gasket. Perhaps too much back pressure? Neil
