  1. I recently sold a basically near standard specification Supersprint. Last year I changed the pistons, and kept the same 'spec, which were the AE 1300cc Ford Crossflow +0.090" on the bores, to suit the standard 1690cc engine. My car had the original BCD cam (according to the build manual which I imagine is a thinly disguised Kent 234). I also fitted a Maniflow 1A cylinder head. There were no problems and no further machining to the valve cut outs already present was necessary.
  2. Model car back on the market

    Lotus Seven

Ali', going over Caerphilly Mountain towards Cardiff at around 6 o clock on 12 March. Looked fun
  14. I think Vulcan and a few others use BL A Series ones, may need a groove though?
  15. Virtually sorted, only minor electrical gremlins in lights now
  16. Strange tale this, or is it? On holiday in Spain in the summer, 75mph on the motorway near Santander. Throttle momentarily sticks, then we're firing on 3. Pull off m/way (near an exit!) and coast downhill to a small village and a very friendly bar. Meet Oscar, car enthusiast like me. Bonnet off, plugs out check compression, none on Nr 3. Clearly a problem. Luckily have breakdown cover (thankyou to Footman James), car eventually repatriated (a month but no problem as it is not used daily!), holiday and camping continues in a rental Corsa :-( Thanks to moving house in September have only just managed to sort out the problem. Car is a Supersprint with the K & N's bolted in place. Weber trumpets held in place by the usual tabs on their flanges, with spring washers and nuts. Appears that one of the tabs had vibrated loose and been sucked in. I kid you not!!!! Steve at Vulcan had heard of this before. I have just finished re-building the engine, decided to stay with the cast pistons, of AE make but slightly different design, but have replaced all four. Quite a painstaking job, but enjoyable Nr 3 piston was peppered with small debris marks and Nr 3 inlet valve was bent, so replaced this valve and the exhaust valve as well. No bore damage on the AX block, but I did hone it lightly. Sump removal hampered by a non split sandwich plate to the gearbox, managed to cut in the recommended 3 places with a B & D Wizard tool (like a Dremel). The Wallage book was very helpful. Finally and importantly, all 8 tabs to the Weber trumpets are now loctited and tightened
  17. Be careful. I have a Seat with the 130 bhp VAG engine (pumpe duse). Millers XFE-PD is one of the only oils that meets the VAG standard for that engine, which will probably be different for your 140 bhp 2 litre mill!! Best to stick to an oil that meets the VAG standard for your engine, at least until out of any warranty.
  18. Managed to cut the windage plate in 3 places, as later build manual recommends, in situ, with the B & D equivalent of a Dremel. Lower half removed, now looking forward to sump removal followed by piston removal
  19. Almost certainly, like most VAG cars with rear discs. Car must have done a high mileage, they usually last upto 100 000 miles at the rear
  20. Peter, thanks, poor use of terminology on my part, I guess it is a sandwich plate. I am going to try to cut it into two pieces in situ.
  21. I have a 1990 Crossflow Supersprint that was made from all new parts in a Caterham supplied kit, in April 1990. The windage plate (car has 5 speed Type 9) does not appear, so far, to have the Caterham recommended cuts in it to make removing the sump easier. I have removed the starter and see no join. Having said that it appears that I may be able to make the required cuuts, as indicated in my (later, 1996) build manual, by carefully using a dremel with a small cut-off wheel. Any thoughts? 🤔
  22. Vulcan Engineering in London are helpful (Steve) and will give 5% discount to Seven Club members. Suggest head, inlet manifold, exhaust manifold (copper gaskets from 7 workshop are also good), and rocker box gaskets should be obtained?
