  1. Is one clam of the bearded variety?
  2. Thanks to everyone for their helpful responses to the forum and by e-mail. Unfortunately, I think it will be too costly to send the car abroad and quite a bit of hassle (I'm leaving in less than 3 weeks!) ☹️. I shall keep it and use it on return visits, including Le Mans trips, etc. I may buy something interesting over in the US, perhaps even a Seven! Or a pink Cadillac...or some rubbish 'coup' with a vinyl roof and chrome bars on the side 😳
  3. I am moving to the US (Connecticut) in December and would be grateful for any advice fellow Blatchatters may have regarding shipping (logistics, costs, etc.) and importation and emissions regulations over there. My car is a 1982 1600 X-flow with twin 40 DCOEs if that helps. My alternatives are selling the car (I've had it 9 years and am not keen on this option!) or leaving it in my lock-up (my brother a friend have volunteered to take it for a spin regularly).
  4. I'll have the Brooklands screen and scuttle please! I've tried phoning, but your number is very busy. Thanks Aidan
  5. Try Clive Denham at Aryliam Motorpsort; his e-mail is aryliam@easynet.co.uk>
  6. Thanks for your all of your replies. I'll get a new battery - someone mentioned ages ago using a Renault battery, which should fit it in where the old gel jobby goes. I'll keep you posted whether this works or not. Unfortunately, I probably won't be able to take the Seven to Brands this weekend! ☹️ Tin top instead. Cheers Aidan
  7. My 1600 X/flow won't start - it has been sitting around for a couple of weeks having had some (hopefully) unrelated problems sorted out. The symptoms are these: battery (8-year old gel type) has been charged but engine will not turn over nor is there enough power for the lights, horn, etc. When connected via jump leads to another car (with engine running), the lights, etc., work but the engine will still hardly turn over at all. Help! Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Aidan
  8. Thanks everyone. I contacted Bruce at Arch, who suggested I contact Mick at Redline (very helpful about older Sevens in my experience). Sorted for about £200
  9. Has anyone got a short-cockpit FIA rollbar suitable for my 1982 live-axle Seven? Aidan Parte aidan.parte@virgin.net
  10. Does anybody have one of the above gathering dust? Aidan Parte aidan.parte@virgin.net
  11. Chris Do you have an FIA roll bar? I need one for my 1982 live axle/short cockpict car. Where are you based? Aidan
  12. OK, so they're not Sevens, but...my father is reluctantly selling the following two cars, both in excellent condition: 1961 MGA 1600, Tartan Red, black leather seats, black double duck hood, luggage rack, engine completely rebuilt in 2000 -- £11,950 1985 Mercedes 280 SL, burgundy metallic, tan interior, black mohair hood, burgundy hard top, 26,500 documented miles -- £14,950 Call Desmond on 01234 268080 (evenings) or e-mail him on desmondparte@hotmail.com

    xflow bits

A friend of mine (without internet access) has a dry sump kit (oil tank, pumps, etc.) suitable for a X-flow - would you be interested? It is all unused and going for about £200. Edited by - aidan parte on 26 Jan 2001 13:03:42
  14. Twin-cable thottle linkage, i.e. the mechanism that bolts to the underneath of the carburretor and connects to the levers that synchronize a pair of DCOEs. Costs £55+VAT from Demon Thieves, yours for £25 or offers.
  15. Steve Exactly the same thing happened on my live axle Caterham about 5 years ago. It was pretty hairy! When I had the car repaired, I had the bracket strengthened by welding steel plates (approx. 4 mm thick) either side of it, so the nut goes through the bracket and plates. I believe this is extremely strong and is no longer anything to worry about. Owners who change their bushes frequently probably need to be more concerned about this, as sometimes leverage is required to get the bushes in. I tried some poly bushes a couple of years ago, and they worked very well for good while - but when they did start to deteriorate, they broke up very rapidly indeed.
  16. Is the inside of your knob threaded? I seem to remember talking to someone at Arrowstar a few years back about this, and it might be the case that if it is unthreaded then the thread will form when you screw it in. Good luck.
  17. Mat Did Santa happen to leave the price tag on the bar? I sold mine early last year, and would like to get another. Is it the type that slopes forward, allowing the hood to fit? I called Oxted before I flogged mine, and they would be quite happy to modify your existing cover.
  18. Bonnet from 1600 GT, bare aluminium with blue bulge for air filter. Single downdraught 32/36 DGAV Weber carburretor, on X-flow manifold with linkage (all good condition) and K&N air filter. All parts open to any offer - must go quickly, moving house!
  19. This is quite a common problem, and I don't think it is anything to worry about. Just spray the shocks/springs with a good coating of grease - it works for me. Aidan
  20. Have you thought about getting a quick-release steering wheel/boss? Unless the scumbag thieves have a matching wheel, they'll never drive it away.
  21. Does Anna use Extra Virgin in her's?
  22. I also need a new battery for my short-cockpit crossflow car. I don't know where they are on Vauxhalls but mine is under the steering column and looks tricky to extract. Any (helpful) hints? Part numbers for easily obtainable (e.g. Halfords, Les Smith, Bosch, etc.) batteries would be very appreciated.
  23. Roger Thanks for your help, it was most useful. I had the wrong type of throttle linkage(I bought the carbs secondhand off a Zetec)and have ordered new bits from Redline. Cheers
