Alaskossie
Has anyone had experience in painting the underside of the bare ali bonnet with heat-resistant or reflective paint? Would this help in keeping stains, etc. off, or making clean-up easier? Any other reasons to do it -- or not?? Just wondering...... Stationary M25 Traveller
Being an SV, and not weight conscious (to that level) I painted the underside of the bonnet and the inside of the engine bay side skins with black Waxoyl-based underseal ..... mainly to stop them going white and fluffy with surface oxidisation. Car gets used in the wet and the winter. It can be removed with White Spirit if necessary.
6speedmanual
In my opinion, no need to paint or waxoyl underside of bonnet. Just occasionally wax polish it with a cleaning polish like MER. It will get any marks off it and the wax coating will stop it going dull. I do mine about twice per year and use car all year round. k80rum
I'm not sure that painting what's a reflective surface to start with, with heat-reflective paint would achieve anything (or even if that's a desirable thing) Surely underneath you'd want it to absorb, rather than reflect engine bay heat, so painting it black would be preferable..
