rop
Who makes cast Xflow pistons without bowl (i.e. flat top) and standard CH (44.7 mm)? I know you can get them forged (expensive) but I would like cast (less expensive): /rop Eppur si muove
Revin Kevin
Rop, I doubt you will find a X flow piston of your description, but YOU MIGHT find a Twin Cam piston with the correct dimensions. Cheers Chris
Jorgen
Why do you want them flat Jorgen
rop
Til Sporge-Jorgen , I'm doing some research on different engine configurations. Having the CC in the head is an option. I think to remember that Vulcan offered this, but I do not remember the details. /rop Eppur si muove
Horizontal
Hi, This could be interesting for me. I have a "silverstone" which according to Caterham has flat top twin cam pistons (not forged) and lots of head work. This was standard from the factory giving 146/150 bhp. Compression ratio 11:1 again according to CC. Not taken the head off as she is going so well !! Doh! thats done it Best wishes to all in 2007. rop
Sylvia, Where do you get that spec from According to the Rees book the Silverstone has a bore of 86.7 mm and a CR 9.5. You are right on the HPs. /rop Eppur si muove
Horizontal
Hi Rop, The figures we from the New Zealand guy who worked on the archives (sorry can't recall his name), aledgedly he spoke to Jez Coates for the details. But I have been told lots of different specs from various people at CC. 1700/1760/244 cam/A6 cam (which it can't have as the fuel pump is mechanical) I do know it has hi-lift rolling rockers 'cause Iv'e seen them! It's not that important to me as the engine is in fine health and I have no wish to change anything. It would be nice to know just what she is though. doclip
Actually mike said that the spec is good for much closer to 160bhp once its loosened up a bit -i asked him about using forged pistons but he said unless i was intending to rev it constantly up to 8k revs for track use that cast pistons were going to be fine and thats how he has built many of these before -incl his own rally escort which ran on cast pistons for many years -i only intend to use mine for road use so 7k rpm is just fine and the rev lter is set at this limit he said if one was going to upgrade to forged accralite pistons then it would be wsie to go all steel with crank and rods -which is a lot of money to spend on a xflow Also he said he prefrs to work on the smaller 1600 block than the larger 1700 block ,and if you saw the dyno plot you would see why Im sure he would be ahppy to chat with you if you ring him +44 1821 642576 Agra precsion engineering of dundee [john fyde] do all the lightening and balancing for him vulcan also have an excellent reputation for xflows -so ive been told Red Xflow 1628cc ,127ft/lb,150bhp
eric
It is very impressive and I like the idea to keep close to 1600 as it keeps some safety and some margin of easy work for the future all with an adequate power
