  1. I can't find a 85 mm bore head gasket for the X-flow/twin cam. I can find nearly any other diamter but 85. Can anybody lead to a source (need not be the most expensive)? /rop
  2. Excuse my ignorance but how are valve guides held in place? Any fixation? What are the pro and cons of cast iron vs. bronze? Pre-crossflow engine. /rop Eppur si muove
  3. The link shows a lotus 7 last seen in Surrey in 1970. Do you know this car? /rop Lotus 7 Eppur si muove

  5. Which torque setting shall I use for the A-frame bush on a live axle? I've seen numbers from 40 to 60 lbs-ft been quoted. 60 seems a little high. /rop Eppur si muove
  6. Interesting point. While the GT cam version is delivering slightly less torque at a slightly lower rpm (4500 vs. 4800 rev/min), max power is quoted to be delivered at 6000 rev/min for both the GT and A2 cam versions. One might have expected the power curve to fall off a bit earlier for the GT cam version. Maybe 6000 rev/min is the magic borderline between a standard and a sports car. Just an observation. /rop Eppur si muove

    Xflow pistons

Sylvia, Where do you get that spec from According to the Rees book the Silverstone has a bore of 86.7 mm and a CR 9.5. You are right on the HPs. /rop Eppur si muove

    Xflow pistons

Til Sporge-Jorgen , I'm doing some research on different engine configurations. Having the CC in the head is an option. I think to remember that Vulcan offered this, but I do not remember the details. /rop Eppur si muove

    Xflow pistons

Who makes cast Xflow pistons without bowl (i.e. flat top) and standard CH (44.7 mm)? I know you can get them forged (expensive) but I would like cast (less expensive): /rop Eppur si muove
  11. I have flat top Al alloy pistons in my Xflow block marked W15 +0.06 1D5 on the top. Obviously, +0.06 is oversize, and 1D5 probably the same in mm, but does W15 tell the make and type of piston? /rop Eppur si muove
  12. Thanks fot your replies. I am aware of the bore size of the pre-Xflow and Xflow blocks, and of its possible variation. I was mostly concerned with supply of coolant to the head, but I understand that it is not problem. /rop Eppur si muove
  13. Peter, What do you mean by "difference in size"? Can I use either a pre-Xflow or a Xflow gasket in the engine configuration I have? Thank you. /rop
  14. Which is the best head gasket to use for an engine with a pre-Xflow head (116E) and a 1600 cc Xflow bottom end (stage 1 to 2)? Is there a difference between pre-Xflow/Xflow head gaskets? /rop Eppur si muove
  15. Thank you, Roger, this is exactly the information I was looking for. The dipstick (marked 530) has, as you indicate, the markings shifted opwards, so the max marking corresponds to a refill capacity of 3.25 litres. The deep part of the sump is about 8 cm, the cross section a little more than 20 by 20 cm, so the deep part of the sump contains about 3.5 litres. Oil pressure is just above 2 kg/cm2. As far as I can see, all this seems OK for a standard engine. However, my fear is that this quantity of oil and the type of oil pump is not good enough for an engine with an CR of about 11 which revs happily beyond 7000 rpm in lower gears. Or put differently, the engine can perform more than it is equipped for. /rop Eppur si muove
