Brake Bleeding

Fitted my 4 pot calipers and uprated Master cyl. I thought I would try the Sealy auto bleeder. Will post results.

Is that positive pressure on the cylinder and a valve on the outflow?

If that is supplying a pressurised flow of brake fluid to the M/C, be wary of any leaks which may cause a high pressure spray of brake fluid (paint stripper) !

I use the same model of brake bleeder from Sealy, I've found it works well

Here too, far better than the lousy Easibleed kits and not much more expensive.

Puts pressure in cyl res. and suction in system will prevent backflow. Have a bleed tube with non return valve just to make sure. Will be doing it tomorrow but filled auto bleed bottle today to let fluid settle and bubbles to rise out.

'Pressure in system' .... surely ... not 'vacuum in system' ?

The pressure in the bottle and res will be released via the relief valve on the bottle prior to disconnecting so will not be any high pressure spray.

I've used on of those for some time, great bit of kit. One person brake bleeding, making brake bleeding almost a pleasure

Worked well for me too when I built my car although it took me a few goes to flush all the air out. If you are filling an empty system you need a lot of fluid in the bottle before you start as returning fluid halfway through that has bubbles in it obviously doesn't end well! Greta bit of kit.

I think its important to let the fluid in the Sealy 24hrs to settle and air bubbles created by pouring to rise before using.

Dont store fluid in it long term as fluid could absorb moisture from air gap in the unit.

you wont get a good pedal without removing the rear calipers and tilting the bleed nipple skywards..... the Sierra calipers not designed to be mounted in the orientation CC use them.

Gravity is your friend when bleeding remember, you can eradicated the vast majority this way

My calipers are top mounted so bleeder is pointing skywards and at the top.

When the standard Sierra rear calipers are bled, the horizontal mounting does still create bleeding problems, as the point the bleed hole reaches the fluid cavity is a bit below the top of the piston. Loosening one of the slide bolts to tilt the caliper up about 30 degrees to lift the bleed nipple, while still having the piston partly behind the pad makes it a lot easier to get all the air out of the system.

In the original Sierra application the bleed nipple was close to being vertical, with the caliper being rotated away from the horizontal.

Ok James will do that just to be sure. There is a very slight spongyness but could just be new pads and discs needing to bed in.

Have done that now so no air in system just need pads and discs to bed in. The Sealy was a very good buy.
