  1. Thanks Dave, I hoped they might. I'll give them a call in the morning to find out cost and timing.
  2. I used big heads and Silkaflex when replacing my cycle wings, there was only one small problem, Bigheads have a minimum order, when I did this I offered a bulk buy for 6 or 7 other Blatchatters. Tigger
  3. After servicing the car for the anticipated good weather I have noticed that there is a bit of play in the dry sump pump pulley (Purple Titan). Does this mean a new pump or is there a way to recondition it, and if so any suggestions who can do this or is it as simple as DIY? I'd rather not spend £400 for a new pump if I don't have to! TIA Tigger
  4. The carpets will be available whenever you need them. We just need to arrange collection/delivery. If you intend coming around the South Circular any time soon you can pick them up from me in East Dulwich if you like. I can be emailed at tiggermail0101 (at) aol.com Tigger (an orange and black Cat)
  5. I have a set of brand new tunnel carpets still in plastic, black, yours for £20??
  6. On a SORN.... I'll just have to sit in it, rev the engine and pretend then....
  7. What are peoples recommendations for winter hibernation?........................ (for the 7)
  8. Many thanks for the advice & tips. I'm slowly building a basic knowledge of the 7. Tig
  9. I've only had the car for a few months so still learning, so please excuse the simple questions..... When draining and re-filling a 1.8K with a Caterham dry sump how much oil should expect I put in? The manual refers to 6 litres but how much can I expect to be left in the system after draining? Final question..... The dry sump install has no dipstick can someone verify the level of the oil in the reservior? Tig
  10. Copied from a post I made a few months ago Identifying the Caliper was rather easier said than done, it may be an XR4i but which year? Having provided serial numbers and photographs www.speedway.co.uk eventually managed to identify which seal kit is needed. BCK 4801 Seal kit for the Triumph Herald Front Brakes BCK 4303 Seal Kit for the Ford XR4x4 Rears (Note: Don't assume that your brakes are the same as mine, take a pic and look for the part numbers on the calipers and send these to Dave at Speedway (Tel: 01709 880393) Seal kits for all four calipers came to £58,
  11. How many Caterhams are in the area.....? I often see a Blue R400 and today a Green and Ali Cat (spotted more than once over the last few months)........... Anyone else....? Tigger (a mango & black Cat) Edited by - Tigger on 26 Jun 2005 21:37:12

  16. It is not unheard of for new caps to be defective too. An ex MG Sport & Racing contact suggested that up to 30% cannot hold sufficient pressure.
  17. An up-date on the brake seal replacement. Since replacing the seals I've now had a chance to take the car for a good drive (last weekend I didn't even have time to drive around the corner!). I can now report that the replacement seals have changed a rather wooden pedal into one with considerably more feel and, what might seem surprising, it has made the car a little quieter. Prior to the seal change I could hear the brake piston drag on the rear discs but now virtually no drag at all. I can throughly recommend this simple bit of maintenance. Tig It's one thing to look stupid, it's another thing to open your mouth and actually confirm it.....
  18. well, The Handbrake now holds the car... But I think that the replacement seals had little to do with it. and it was more about adjusting the handbrake. The original seals really were not in that bad a condition and doubt that replacing them made much difference to the chocolate pot handbrake and having dismantled the calipers and rear handbrake cable assembly to replace the seals I found that the cable moved pretty freely in its sheath so that wasn't the culprit either. It all comes down to the little off-white thumb screw adjuster, a few turns on that and the handbrake will hold the car on the 3rd click of the ratchet (I don't think it would hold a Sierra though!) The only other component not dismantled was the Handbrake handle. tig
  19. I've been doing a bit of research around the Brake calipers/handbrake and cost implication of various options: In my situation the Handbrake cable is less likely to be the source of the problem, movement of the cable appears to be pretty free in its sheath. Now I get to the Calipers and Two and a half options. 1. replace calipers, Expensive: - New £180 each from CC - Reconditioned £78 each 2. Re-condition existing calipers. This is about £15 per caliper DIY So guess which option I favour!? Identifying the Caliper was rather easier said than done, it may be an XR4i but which year? Having provided serial numbers and photographs www.speedway.co.uk eventually managed to identify which seal kit is needed. The kits get delivered tomorrow so this will give me a nice long weekend to strip thing down and re-assemble. I also decided to get a seal kit for the front caliper too. How exciting. If doesn't fix the handbrake problem I'm sure this will bring new life to 10 year old brakes and I'll know it really is the cable afterall. All told Seal kits for all four calipers has come to £58, so not bad if they do the job. I'll give an update once they're fitted, I might even do a web page guide. 20. Petrol washes the cylinders of oil deposits and promotes accelerated wear. :(
  21. Jono, Unfortunately you missed my bulk order a couple of weeks ago... 🙆🏻 You will find out that Bigheads only take order of over £50. One set works out at £11.20 so you need 4 fellow blatchatters. You will also need some silkabond 292, a 300ml tub of this is £18. It's a good solution to the problem. Tim
  22. Now...., A simple question. Is the brake cable a Ford scorpio item which can be sourced from any decent factor or is it Caterham sourced...? Any idea on cost too? Tig
