  1. Many thanks Oily & Myles. That doesn't sound too much like rocket science!
  2. I've just come back from the MOT bay and I have a bit of a problem with hydrocarbons & CO. The testing garage is happy for me to plug in a laptop to help me achieve the correct result but as a bit of a mapping numpty I need to know which parameters to adjust....... currently I have a reading of : Fast idle CO- 11.22% Vol (should be =<0.30) HC- 1215 ppm vol (should be =< 200) Natural idle CO- 7.9% vol (should be =<0.50 The car does have a CAT fitted. Any help gratefully received.
  3. At last I have the vernier Inlet.............. 'LGC 106970 - sportcam' - 9.6mm lift Exhaust........... 'LGC 106970 - LYO 6' - 9.0mm lift Does that make sense? Tig
  4. I'll have to get myself a new vernier! Will post the measurements later in the week. Many thanks Dave, Tig
  5. Dave, Can you give a few more tech details of the cams please, (lift, duration....) , a chum of mine might be interested. Thanks

    633 Cams

If anyone is trying to offload a pair of 633 cams I know someone who would be interested. Tig
  7. I have just stripped a K-series head and would like to find out the lift and duration of the cams which are fitted as they don't seem to be the standard items, I've searched their reference numbers of the interweb with no luck. Can someone enlighten me? The references stamped on the cams are: Inlet.............. 'LGC 106970 - sportcam' Exhaust........... 'LGC 106970 - LYO 6' Many thanks Tig
  8. Dave, My concern was for the clearance of the compressor, as Richard says it's a bit marginal but in the end I managed it by using a 22mm socket as an extension when compressing the 8no innermost valve. Thanks for the feedback from everyone. I'll just have to see how effective the method is during re-assembly. Tig
  9. I'm in the process of stripping a K-series head for the first time and need a little advice how to remove the valves. I have bought a valve spring compressor but think I might not have the correct one, can someone with greater knowledge of the process give me some guidance of what I need and how to go about it. Currently I have one of these http://www.machinemart.co.uk/product.asp?p=040211461 Thanks Tig
  10. The diagram was perfect. Problem found and fixed. Tig
  11. All good info and great tips, thanks guys. Tig
  12. Since fitting a tow bar to my Passat only one of the trailer indicators works, I'd like to test the socket pins with a multimeter but don't know which pin does what can somone enlighten me. Many thanks Tig
  13. It's just about time to replace the front wheel bearings on the 7, but before I start to make a pigs ear are there any web sites with instructions which might help me a little. Regards Tig
  14. 'Extra outlet is to plumb direct to expansion bottle/header tank.' The expansion tank is already plumbed into the jiggle valve on the back of the inlet plenum... that makes the plumbing a bit awkward. Tigger
  15. I've just received one of the new black top and bottomed Rad's from Redline this moring, my one concern is that it has an extra small outlet adjacent to the big inlet, what would it connect to....? dunno!? I also have to say that is looks conciderably more weedy that the triple core option. Tigger
  16. The orange 7 in your group. What a GREAT evening :o)
  17. Good idea but I've tackled the fins as best I can but the Rad really is a bit beyond that now.
  18. After a VERY hot trackevening at Brands yesterday I realise that the badly folded fins on the existing Ali rad are not helping the whole cooling thing. So it's time for a new K series Rad but which rad do I get, a new Caterham Alloy one or an aftermarket one, if so which one? what are the pros and cons....? Any advice greatly received. Tig
  19. David, Top tip, will check this over the weekend. Many thanks Tig
  20. Thanks for the advice. The only other work I had done to the car was to fit an aeroscreen which did involve an amount of pushing wire about under the dash, so a bad earth may well be the culprit! Tig
  21. Some numpty electrical questions: All of these questions relate to a K series with caterham dry sump I've recently renewed my VDO gauges with some new ones but there seem to be some weird meter readings. When turning the ignition switch to on (before pressing the red button) the temperature and oil pressure gauges sweep to their maximum and stay there. When pressing the ignition button and starting the engine the temperature gauge goes down to 80 degrees (still too high) but the oil pressure stays at maximum. As the engine runs the engine temperature rises and the thermostat opens when the meter 'reads' approx 95. Before replacing the gauges the oil pressure gauge vary according the idle or higher engine revs (quite normal). I have since re-tried the original dials and they show the same reading as the new ones so it's not the gauges!!! Question 1 what might cause the strange meter readings for temperature and oil gauge? Question 2 where is the oil pressure sensor location? Question 3 the fan does not seem to be switch on, at what temperature should it be triggered? Any suggestions, experience, knowledge, gratefuly received. Tig
  22. Hi all, The MGF gang have booked a rolling road day at Emerald on Sunday (4th June) and owing to last minute drop outs have a few spaces going spare. It's a bit 'last minute dot com' - but if any one wants to join the fun (about 30 quid a car), they're more than welcome - the day starts from 10am. Let Rob know if you're interested in coming along so he knows how many are coming - email chair@mgfregister.org Cheers
  23. Can anyone give me the details of the airfield TD venue near Abingdon. I know someone posted details about it 4 or 5 months ago but I just can't seem to find them. An info much appreciated. Tig
