  2. Yes, I removed all the immobiliser wiring and then fitted a Toad Powerkey. If you are buying new presumably you will get a K3, if second hand check the serial number for future upgradability. Viscous Limited Slip Diffs were fitted to sierras as 7"units. Where the difference lies is in the driveshaft, the Caterham push in shafts will not work with the sierra viscous LSD. However LesG has confirmed that by changing the inner CV joint to a lobro joint you can indeed use a sierra 7" LSD in the Caterham. The Westfield boys have been using these diffs for years and the diff in standard setup seems to work well in a Westie. The diffs can be adjusted by increasing or decreasing the pressure of the fluid in the sealed viscous unit, however its not a cheap operation. LesG So are you saying the push in driveshaft can be converted to flange type using std off the shelf parts, well off the shelf at the local scrappie.......if so then looks like this might not be such an expensive option after all. I understand it is possible to get the viscous units adjusted for a lighter car like a se7en. One of the reasons I wasn't totally happy with a custom driveshaft is that I do a lot of touring, therfore if a driveshaft fails I can get a std one shipped out overnight, whereas a custom one would mean the end of the tour probably. Do you have any photos of the conversion. Simon Bell - Caterham 7 Duratec R I`ve seen the future.....and it`s powered by duratec Check out the website here

  11. I really didn't like the pedal I had with uprated calipers and std m/c. I have just fitted an AP m/c but haven't had a chance to try it yet. I like a firm pedal with not too much travel. 14. I'd probably spec a different 1st ratio next time around, 1st doesn't last long on mine, not sure about 2.2 but I seem to remember there being a 2.39 option with quaife kits I think Simon Bell - Caterham 7 Duratec R I`ve seen the future.....and it`s powered by duratec Check out the website here
  15. I don't believe any tyre will perform well on a se7en in standing water. I was caught in torrential rain in Chamonix last year when I happened to have a set of A021's fitted and the car still aquaplaned at relatively low speeds. On my first 7 I had Continental Sport Contacts fitted, a fairly typical road tyre and again they were no better in a standing water situation. The car is just too light to cut through the water. Hell, even my Volvo V70 which weighs a fair bit, fitted with tyres designed for the wet is pretty hairy in a standing water situation. There is only one way to deal with standing water, take it easy. 17. 2.0 duratec 185bhp BGH Pro Road and Track with alloy main case Ratios - 1st (2.66:1), 2nd (1.75:1), 3rd (1.21:1), 4th (1.00:1), 5th (0.86:1) Std diff 3.92:1 13" wheels , 205/60 tyres on the rear Seems to work well although interested to try Timbo's setup as a comparison although definitely not convinced this engine warrants a 6 speed. 18. When you hear of people having accidents in the wet on R888's or A048's then you need to ask what speed were they driving at, what exactly were the conditions, what caused the accident, what were the tyre pressures set at, etc etc. Just because someone had an accident doesn't mean the tyre is at fault. From reports I have heard tyre pressusres are really critical when using these tyres, especially ion the wet, and it seems R888's are more critical than others. Run at suitable pressures there should be no problem. I haven't tried R888's yet but run Yoko A048's in all weathers and have never had a scary moment in the wet. I run mine around 15psi and I drive sensibly in the wet. I have used them on a damp trackday and once they are warm they give plenty of grip in damp conditions. 19. I have removed mine completely. I also cut notches in the boot cover around the harness mounts so that I can completely remove the boot cover to clean it. Simon Bell - Caterham 7 Duratec R I`ve seen the future.....and it`s powered by duratec Check out the website here
  20. I changed my tunnel sides and rear bulkhead to carbon fibre, looks great and is lightweight. For the floors I use black rubber flooring cut to shape. I have also used this in the boot floor. I'd tend to avoid carpet anywhere in a se7en, the alternative seems to be to have the cockpit panels powdercoated black which is tidier looking than bare aluminium which will be hard to keep clean. 22. I have competed 14000 miles on 48's in all weathers with no dramas. In the dry they are simply fantastic, once you have tried them you will not want to go back. In the cold you need to work them to keep the heat in them, similarly in the damp. In standing water they are the same as any other tyre on a lightweight se7en, a bit hairy, so you adjust your driving style accordingly. The thing about 48's and R888's is that you need to keep the pressures right and run them quite low. We run 14-16psi and certainly never higher than that. R888's seem to particularly pressure sensitive from a few peoples experiences, I've never tried them myself. Mileage wise 4000 is probably the most you can expect unless you are doing a lot of gentle driving on straight roads.
