  1. Hi Rich, Just hoping you may have a grill left ..... I measured my current grill (cant rely on measuring the nosecone as its (ahem) misshaped......). Size at the widest point across the horizontal is 44cm and on the vertical 22cm. Do you have any left? If so please ket me know and the process to pay etc. Ta. Neil
  2. Hi Phil - if you still have some spares on the bulk order then I would like a plain pair (to be polished) with rubber trim. Let me know if I'm ok to go on the order list and I'll get the money transfered ASAP. Ta. Neil.
  3. doh! I'm confused now ... at the time I'm sure I was on the safe side .... anyway don't tell anyone
  4. Jonathan, I also used SpeedyCables for a repair and took the opportunity to re-calibrate as it was out by about 10% (at least it always showed a slower speed so no risk of going to fast where I shouldn't ....) My cost was a little more due to the re-callibration - it's now reading bang on I completed some basic measurements based on instructions on the website and did have to pay for recorded delivery to send it in. Got an email saying what the total cost would be (not an estimate but final cost so if there were any unplanned issues they would contain within the quote) and whether I wanted them to proceed - the completion as mentioned by others was about 4-5 weeks. This was in 2013 - cost was £80 for repair and recalibrate (+VAT) and with P&P came to £110. Neil

    Pad's and Discs

A related question to the OP (hopefully not to be regarded as a thread hijack!). Richard said: Don't use the MGB535M1144 pads. You'll have too much bias towards the front. I was thinking of going with the bigger ones - if so what would be an appropriate rear pad to retain a good bias? (please assume I do not add a bias valve). My vehicle is 1.4K for mainly road use but maybe a track day in the future.
  6. Another for Brise. No problems since fitting last spring o n my 1.4K SS 😬 I phoned them direct and got a discounted price which he offered even before I said I was a club member! Shipped to home address very quickly.
  7. Mav, I'll take 2nd dibs on the windscreen if Brucey passes or doesn't respond Assuming no chips as you mentioned - is it also tinted ? (not sure if they all come like that!) Neil
  8. Pukka - I'll take the nuts pls. YHM - Neil
  9. Hi - are the 16 wheel nuts still available ? Can you confirm that they are for Ford M12 x 1.5 wheelnuts (60°angle). Also is the s/s in "good+" condition rather than "chipped and flaking poor" condition like mine ? {Just trying to judge what "used" really means!} Ta. Neil

    Bicknacre 6pm today

Hurrah - that was me Finally spotted so will now have to change comments Was bit late coming home dodging the odd shower - had given a friends kids a couple of rides in the back lanes near work as their first experiences in a Cat. Think I can safely say another Caterham owner once Sam's grown up (currently he's about 8!!)
  11. Hi markiebabes Good to meet you at SW - fantastic day - our dog was shattered that evening and barely got off the sofa Didn't realise yours was one of the escape artists (although aren't they all ) - we asked before letting Enzo off the lead and they said it was secure!! We did see some over in the house garden adjacent - must have been yours. Can't believe my first "spot" is when I'm not in the Caterham Hope to make the Stow Maries meet even though it's only 2 miles away! I mentioned our Spinone can identify the sound of other Caterhams coming down the road - realised he's going to be well confused when 100's come to Essex 😬 Neil Wilson Garfield - M100 EOW - Yellow/Green 1.4K SS
  12. Hi JF - do you still have any sets of the Yellow/Green stickers? If so then please cna you email me pics and details of payment....thx Neil Wilson Garfield - M100 EOW - Yellow/Green 1.4K SS
  13. I'm about to replace my rather dented rear wing protectors - above each one I have a 18x9cm sticker (or 7" x 3.5" in old measures) which could also do with replacing. If I went without the wing will look rather odd between smooth and pitted surfaces ☹️ Trick is where can I get some Caterham associated ones from? The current ones happen to be white background with big yellow 7 and words Caterham & Motorsport (2nd line) through the centre. I've looked on the official Caterham site and also the regalia section of the Lotus Seven Club but nothing there..... Anyone know where I can get some ?? Back ache

I have the leather S-Type seats and my "internal" sections of the seat are separate and held to the seat body by strong velcro. This means they can be removed and re-positioned therefore I found that I could adjust the section which is the lumbar one to suit me and give excellent support Maybe some of you have seats like mine and never realised that the inner sections could be removed......it took me about 2 years to notice 😳 Neil Wilson Garfield - M100 EOW - Yellow/Green 1.4K SS

    Ongoing mis-fire

I had an issue mid 2008 (you can search in Blatchat) in that under loads and sometimes at certain rpm (varied on drives but got lower as the car got hotter!) the car would missfire and act as if it was hitting the rev limiter. I tried all the usual things (plugs, HT leads, even fitted a new coil) but this did not solve it. Based on some advice I finally I changed the Crank Position Sensor (CPS) - even though it had been checked and cleaned - and this did the trick. It seems that as the engine was getting hotter the field created by the CPS was "breaking down" more and passing a dodgy signal to the ECU. Mine was 1995 1.4K SS. Fitting a new CPS fully fixed my miss-fire - hopefully this may help you. Neil Wilson Garfield - M100 EOW - Yellow/Green 1.4K SS
  16. Drove past me whilst walking the dog on Thu night around 5:45-6pm. It made the dog look round before you'd even reached us as he instantly recognised the exhaust note from mine! I did get the number plate but by the time I got home I'd forgotten it (old age!!) 😳 Def Yellow with black wings - was something like C7 MOA ???? 17. Thanks all for your replies. We've decided against the "quick job" of a wire brush etc as the other half isn't keen on that route for her "baby" acw - I did see that thread but the place was Birmingham and I felt it was too far for 1 wheel - end up more in fuel than the cost for the refurb tbird - inner tube was a good idea which I hadn't thought of 😳 but did some surfing and, although not illegal, is not recommended. An inner tube wants to become round when inflated and for low profile tyres this is not good and can create undue stress on the walls - so decided not to go that route. SM25T - your Kent option sounds good and I'll chase some others in Essex now that a full refurb is the decision. Thanks again Neil Wilson Garfield - M100 EOW - Yellow/Green 1.4K SS
  18. Not my Cat wheels but the other halfs StreetKa! She had some new tyres fitted (at KwikFit ) and a few months later we noticed the front was losing air. It loses about 20psi in 2-3 weeks!! She took the car back to have the tyre/valve checked and it turns out that the inside of the alloy wheel is blistering/corroded and not holding a good seal (the wheels are 7 years old) - she did get to see the damage so it wasn't just KF saying so. Questions are:- 1) Can only the inside of a wheel be refurbed (i.e. brushed down and re-lacquered) ? 2) Realistically should the whole wheel be refurbed ? 3) If 1 wheel was done is it likely to come back looking a different colour/shade? (not saying the others might not need doing aswell) 4) What would the rough cost per wheel expected to be? 5) Can anyone recommend a good place in Essex ?? 6) Is it safe for her to drive on when the tyre is on full pressure ? (she's desparate to get out in it now the weather has improved ) Thanks as always ....... Neil Wilson Garfield - M100 EOW - Yellow/Green 1.4K SS Edited by - Garf on 9 Apr 2010 14:45:07
  19. nickh - I hope my original post from last year helps - June/July timeframe. Just to point out that what I meant to say earlier that it was the Crank Position Sensor (CPS) and not TPS (doh!) that I changed and cured my problem - thought I'd put this straight before anyone picks me up on it Hope you get your problem fixed soon. Neil Wilson Garfield - M100 EOW - Yellow/Green 1.4K SS
  20. nickh - I also have a 1.4 ss but 95 reg. I had a similar(ish) issue last year in that under loads and sometimes at certain rpm (varied on drives but got lower as the car got hotter!) the car would missfire and act as if it was hitting the rev limiter. I tried all the things that you did (even fitted a new coil (unfortunately I don't have the part number readily available as I moved house and all the Cat stuff is still in a box somewhere - if you really need it I can try and find it). The new coil did not solve it and finally I changed the Throttle Position Sensor (TPS) - even though it had been checked and cleaned - and this did the trick. It seems that as the engine was getting hotter the TPS was "breaking down" more and passing a dodgy signal to the ECU. Fitting a new one fixed it - hopefully this may help you. You can read some of my more detailed posts at the time which better described what my symptons were. Neil Wilson Garfield - M100 EOW - Yellow/Green 1.4K SS
  21. It's taken me a little time to post back what the cure was - my excuse is that originally I was so overwhelmed at having full revs back that I then went on a mad driving spree whenever possible 😬 Initially (based on strong posts above) I changed the coil but this was not the solution. It was in fact the Crank Position Sensor (CPS) - a new one of these allowed free reving right up to the limit even when very hot. I assume that it has some resistance and this was breaking down - changing more so as the temp increased. Anyway all fixed and when it stops raining I'm off again Huge thanks to all those who posted replies Neil Wilson Garfield - M100 EOW - Yellow/Green 1.4K SS
  22. Again - thanks all for the quick replies. Dave & Peter - both of you have mentioned the coil as likely candidate - Peter was especially precise in his diagnostic - "knackered" !!! I think one of my first actions will be to replace the coil after re-checking dizzy and HT leads - just so I can learn from this why do you believe it is the coil and why does the temperature effect it as explained ?? Neil Wilson Garfield - M100 EOW - Yellow/Green 1.4K SS
  23. Martin - thanks. Have checked HT leads and dizzy but only cleaned and re-fitted not replaced - maybe a consideration soon! From my discussions with Chris at 7 Workshop the temperature sensor input to the MEMS only affects the IACV and idle rev setting. He didn't think it would affect upper end rev limits. Maybe someone has another opinion ........ Neil Wilson Garfield - M100 EOW - Yellow/Green 1.4K SS
  24. I have a puzzling problem - a (seemingly) temperature related reduced rev limit (down to 4,200 when hot) and need some collective help for ideas as to what it might be! I've done the usual Blatchat searches but found nothing similar. Car is 1995 1400K SS no further modifications. At the point the issue began I cannot recall any action taken against the vehicle/engine other than normal driving. Symptons:- When I commence a journey the car has a self "imposed" rev limit around 5,800-6,000 RPM (vs the expected 7,200 for SS) The rev limit light does not come on but the car behaves exactly as if it had reached it's MEMS ECU coded limit i.e. it pops and bangs a bit at the rev limit and you cannot accelerate the revs through it (it's been a while since I've done it at 7,200 but I'm sure it's the same). So effectively at "cold" it limits at around 6,000 (I say "cold" as I'm loathe to thrash it up from direct start so this is a few minutes / 1 mile down the road) As I drive further 5-10 miles / 15-20 mins (I'm assuming therefore as the engine progressively gets hotter) the imposed rev limit drops from 6,000 to around 5,000 and eventually reaches 4,200 by the time I reach work - approx 15 miles / 30 mins on. Frustratingly this now seems to happen on every drive I do ☹️ Actions taken to date:- Recently it went in for service/MOT at 7 Workshop who looked at it but unfortunately could not fix it on the day. They, and I, checked and where necessary cleaned the following:- o Crank sensor o Spark plugs o HT leads o Dizzy cap o General check of all leads & connections o Reset MEMS o Position of leads in case of interference o Changed battery (on my request as previous one was 5+ years old) Considering it "appears" to be temp related - any ideas ?? 25. SvenDriver, have a good close look at your oil and old baffle when you take it out. Unfortunately my rattle in the engine bay turned out to be the Big End bearings ☹️ and it ended up costing me a pretty penny to get the engine sorted by Chris at 7 Workshop - it is a 95 1.4K SS with 24k miles. Here is the link to my original post when I was after some advise from the group - it may help you identify if the noise is the same here Tell tale sign was the little bits of shiny metal collected in the foam 😳 Also - like you - when I got the car my engine pressure was low but having read some posts thought it was "normal". My car used to start at 4 bar then drop to 1-2 when hot and the red light would come on during acceleration and right hand cornering as it dipped to 0 Again Dave said this was wrong - it now starts at 5 then drops to 2-3 when hot BUT under acceleration INCREASES in pressure by 1-2 bar. Overall a BIG difference ! Car goes like a dream now even though still running it in to max of 6,000 rpm 😬 Good luck and I hope your problem's not the same.
