  1. frankyknuckles - I have recently used the 7 Workshop when my car needed it's big end bearings changing ☹️ while the engine was out I had the verniers added and set. Just went there again yesterday to have the oild changed after the run-in period 😬 7 Workshop is in Hoddesdon, Herts and not too far from Essex - I go via A1060 and/or A414 which are nice runs to get there. I live just outside Chelmsford and it takes about 35 mins on a good run. Ask for Chris on 01992 470480. Neil Wilson Garfield - M100 EOW - Yellow/Green 1.4K SS
  2. Wow some quick responses as ever !! Just to clear up some extra points - there is no extra cam cover over the plugs so no noises from that department and I also checked that the HT leads weren't near the timing sensor lead as per Angus's issue. However I would have to say that my HT leads bought from Hafords last Autumn do not sit down on the plugs particularly well and one in particular does "pop" out occasionally over extreme bumps - but the noise the engine makes after that (and the poor acceleration) is much more obvious. I can confirm that there is a bit a air blowing from the exhaust as it was off just before Christmas at the point of the 4 into 4 - not yet properly re-sealed it - can leaking air cause that much bad ignition ?! With regards to "pinking" - the car is a K series so how could it generate some pre-ignition when it's all managed by the MEMS ?? Would it be advisable to reset the MEMS and see if it rights itself on its timing ? Any more help warmly appreciated 😬 Neil Wilson Garfield - M100 EOW - Yellow/Green 1.4K SS
  3. I know that all sorts of rattle have been posted in the past and I have searched them all - but in the end I thought that if I could be as specific as possible in my posting of what happens then I'm more likely to get better advice! Car is 1995 1.4K SS - vehicle idles fine (slight tappet knocking but service/MOT due in April so I'll get fresh oil then - not sure what was in it but last gave it some needed top-up with 0W-40W). When accelerating the car now emits a "metallic" rattling noise - not apparent at idle so difficult to be any more precise in location than that. From my driving position it seems to be nearside towards front of engine. ☹️ Last night I determined that there is NO rattle when the car is "coasting" and this is true for any gear and revs. As soon as I put in a bit of acceleration (regardless of how much I push the accelerator pedal in) the rattle starts. The frequency and loudness of the rattle does increase with engine revs but is not proportional (actually increases slower than the revs themselves) *confused* Any one got any ideas ?? I'm a bit of a novice at all this so the more specific you can be about bits to push and prod the better 😬 Thanks. Neil Wilson Garfield - M100 EOW - Yellow/Green 1.4K SS

Steve, if you still have the perspex wind deflectors I'd be interested - are they scratched ?? and how much for them ?? Not had my Caterham that long but my first sidescreens off driving was a bit of a shock experience but fun - when I smiled the wind rushed into my right cheek and it started to oscilate 😳 😬 Ta. 5. So low that it tends to stall when I stop and sometimes mid gear change (when change is done slowly and the revs have time to drop!). It is worse after a run when the engine is warm and also at night when the lights are on and there is a greater load on the alternator. It's a 1995 1.4K SS and it has the metal throttle body so no air issue there with overtightening the air filter jubilee. Not tampered with anything yet but wanted to get some opinions. Firstly I was going to check that the IACV is not sticking - this I shall do regardless. Secondly, and this is where I become unsure ! The throttle cable has a small screw adjuster that can shorten/lengthen the throttle cable. If I was to shorten the cable, and hence increase the idle revs slightly, will this "confuse" the engine management side of things ?? Also, should I reset the MEMS by the normal procedure (ignition on, x5 pedal push etc.). The vehicle has no immobilisor fitted and I'm concerned that re-setting the MEMS will cause issues with the lack of immobilisor that it will expect to be there. Any thoughts greatly appreciated !! Ta. Neil
