  1. Hi Guy - you still up? How's your shoulder? Anyway - if you do come up with anything to cover the intertia reel holes please let me know! Also I still haven't fitted my CFTDH yet See some photo's of my Roadsport build here
  2. Dave, If you have the old style bar (single diagonal strut) then you may need to remove it but not necessarily - I trimmed the end of the bolt off and then it fitted fine, no need to remove the bar at all. See some photo's of my Roadsport build here
  3. On mine I have bolt, plain washer then crinkly, then harness bracket, then spacer (thin end through harness) - this then goes through the boot cover and tightens up. I never did anything with the fibre washers. Torque figure is correct at 45 lbft. If you have the FIA roll bar you will find it impossible to get one bolt in ('cos of the diagonal strut) so the word is to take it off. What I did was take the end of the bolt off instead! Only a couple of mm, and it still reaches all the way though the thread so I think is fine. See some photo's of my Roadsport build here
  4. Also Caterham will loosen and re-torque it at the PBC for you See some photo's of my Roadsport build here
  5. Hi, yes you can change the speedo oil seal quite easily (as Caterham told me to on my 2 week old car) but it may not fix the leak. Mine was leaking where the propshaft joins the gearbox and spreading oil all along the underside of the car. Caterham took it back in and ended up replacing the gearbox and propshaft for me and now all is fine A bit of a pain being without it for a week so soon after getting it though As Charles says - take it back and let Caterham deal with it, you shouldn't have to do it yourself. 6. IMHO I would have thought 12000 miles for a set of fronts on an S3 was pretty good going. If both sides of the tyre have worn then it points at under-inflation but if it is just the outside then alignment (or conering too hard ). See some photo's of my Roadsport build here
  7. On mine I can get to the poppers without removing the wheel - space is tight but I can just about manage it. Maybe my wheel is fitted differently to yours? See some photo's of my Roadsport build here
  8. *thumbup* *thumbup*mav - please do, I'm sure there are plenty who will benefit and gladly contibute something to NTL See some photo's of my Roadsport build here
  9. I'm no expert, but I think you do have the right stuff and should use it. On new builds this is what Caterham recommend - I don't think much has changed between 2002 and 2003 (when I got mine). See some photo's of my Roadsport build here
  10. They can be quite good, although when I tried mine on the 7 the cap didn't seal properly and I ended up with brake fluid everywhere! Frantic mopping up followed so I resorted to the old method. Of course this may have just been my fault - but take care See some photo's of my Roadsport build here
  11. I used 2 pairs of cheap axle stands (Screwfix £9.99 a pair). More than adequate. My advice is not to make anything too tall - you have to be able to get the car off of them somehow! I was going to make trestles, but in the end it was so much easier and cheaper (unless you have the stuff lying about) to use stands. It also gives the flexibility to put the car at different heights depending on whether you need to be underneath or working from above (I am quite short so would struggle to reach some areas if the car was high up). Take a look at Darrens thoughts here as well. See some photo's of my Roadsport build here Edited by - Grubbster on 4 Jan 2004 14:01:57
  12. It is the builders challenge (according to Malcolm the delivery guy) - points are awarded if the bend in the skin on each side are the same and the paint isn't scratched! The advice also is that if you do bend the skin, don't try and bend it back as once the ally has stretched it won't go back. Managed to do mine with no permanent bend - so it can't be that hard! 13. Interested subject to price and finding a willing volunteer to help me fit them/set them up! See some photo's of my Roadsport build here
  14. *biggrin*Great news Guy - glad to hear it is OK now See some photo's of my Roadsport build here
  15. It's 2 pieces - the handbrake slots in between. Also there are 2 points that the outer cable slots into as well. See some photo's of my Roadsport build here
  16. If you look here and the picture before it, you can see how the handbrake mounts - yes there are some brackets for it. See some photo's of my Roadsport build here
  17. If you take a look here this is a photo of the rear of my switch before I corrected the problem. There is a black plastic cover on the rear of the switch - it pulls off, then you need a mirror or camera to see what wire is where. Took me a few hours to find it - because I never suspected it may have been wored incorrectly Sounds very much like CC owe you a starter motor - I hope there is no other damage. Anyway - check the wiring, get back to me if necessary (or Charles - he is pretty close to you). See some photo's of my Roadsport build here
  18. PRJ - on my new Roadsport kit, the ignition switch was wired incorrectly and the starter motor ran all the time (i.e. it ran when the switch was in postion 2 instead of in the sprung position). If yours did this I am sure you would have noticed straightaway - but just check in case. If it is doing the same then this would be the cause of the problem. 19. Just been to my other local Halfords and the story is the same there as well - plenty of £49 pro socket sets but no cheap swiveling ratchet spanners. So I asked - the guy laughed and said they disappeared almost immediately and they won't be getting any more of them. ☹️ See some photo's of my Roadsport build here
  20. OK Guys, just back from Halfords, this is what they have left: 7 of the 62 piece pro socket/spanner sets at £49 3 of the 7 piece, metric, 'stubby' ratchet spanner sets at £29 They have 1 flex head, 7 piece, metric ratchet spanner set - but it is £69, no sign of a special price on this. If anyone is certain that it was a different price then let me know and I'll check it out again. So, from this - does anyone still want anything?? See some photo's of my Roadsport build here
  21. I found this as well...and spent many an hour undoing everything, re-torquing it and generally worried that I'd done something wrong. Got the steering in, and everything was fine when turned from the wheel. Honest! 😬 😬 😬 😬 😬 😬 😬 😬 😬 😬 😬 😬 😬 😬 😬 😬 😬 😬 😬 😬 😬 😬 😬 😬 😬 😬 😬 😬 See some photo's of my Roadsport build here
  22. Mark, I'll take a look in the morning - do you know what sort of price they should be in the sale? (Just to make sure I pick up the right ones!) See some photo's of my Roadsport build here Edited by - Grubbster on 30 Dec 2003 22:20:09
  23. Martin, thanks for posting this - seems to be a popular upgrade and I suspect it'll soon be on my 'to do' list. Question though - how easy is it to do, I have never tampered like this before? See some photo's of my Roadsport build here
  24. Adam, Yesterday they still had them in Gosport - worth a try, I am happy to go get one for you if necessary? See some photo's of my Roadsport build here
  25. According to CC, the new rule about the mirrors came into force on the day of my SVA (October 1st) so Caterham took mine in with some big mirrors clamped on to the windscreen stays I believe. It is something to do with the doors not being a rigid part of the car IIRC , for SVA purposes the doors are not removable because you have to bolt them on - if they are not bolted on then this in itself is an SVA fail. I just wish there were clear rules and less ambiguous interpretation - there certainly are different opinions at different SVA stations, and between inspectors, and depending on the weather/day of the week/tightness of underwear etc See some photo's of my Roadsport build here
