  1. Abingdon with 2 others ...look out for us... Orange R400 ..WITH A BIG RED STARTER BUTTON 😬, a blue R300 and a green Superlight R. Hope the rain eases off !
  2. Ok OK...not pressing the button..... In my defence, I did press the button to start but the battery is knacked I think....and in my blind panic of "oh my god I won't be able to make the trackday" I forgot when jumping it off the tintop :-) I still can't believe I did it ! It's an f'ing big red button for christs sake ! LOL
  3. NO COMMENT !! *redface* 😳 I should win a prize for the biggest muppetry in all blatchat land Edited by - Steve Campbell on 24 Apr 2012 20:07:34
  4. errr...I just got it started...and I am NEVER going to admit to anyone what I did / didn't do as I am a complete numpty 😬 😳 😳 😳 😳 😳 😳 😳 😳 😳 😳 😳 Thanks for help anyway ! The car is fine.....senior moment on my part.
  5. ok here's an update. Tried rocking and no difference. I don't have a multimeter...I'm relying on the stack dash reading. It's 14.9 with my tintop running and drops to about 14.5 or 14.6 when I try to start. It's not the master switch..I have power (all the lights work, the heater fan etc) I turn the key, the fuel pump primes( or at least I can hear it whirring)...I then have to turn the key another "notch" to fire her up...when I do this, nothing happens....no clicks, sounds or anything. Have tried to trace the wiring but looks like a pain on this car (I think I'm going to have to remove the plenum chamber and water bottle to even get my hands into where the starter motor is.... !). Can someone confirm this > ? If yes, can I just unbolt, slide it out of the way and then re-bolt it back on afterwards or is it more complicated than that ~~(is there a gasket etc) Keep the ideas coming...will now have to try them tomorrow night !
  6. Hi Jonathon...nothing changed since last used and no problems then. So far : I've checked not immobilised (rocker switch is down). I know I have enough juice as I am connected to my tintop to try and jump and the Stack Dash is reading 14.9V (reading just less than 12 without connecting to tintop) Master switch is working as all lights, fans, fuel pump etc kick in. Checked connections to battery and they are sound and clean. Need to check starter not jammed ..off out to do that now ! I've checked the master ecu 30 amp fuse and thats fine. For your last point...not sure how to do that..just take a wire from red terminal on battery to where ? (sorry...I said I was a dunce)..back soon to report on rocking !
  7. Help please ! First track day of the year on Friday so decided to check over the car tonight, Won't start. Last run a few weeks ago in the good weather. Tried but nothing. Battery low (pulling about 11.9 on the stack readout) so connected up to the tiptop to jump it. Now read 14.9......Electrics light up, fuel pump primes..as per normal....turn the key...nothing...no sound, click or anything. Any clues on where to start the hunt ? I am an electrical dunce so simple easy instructions !!! It's a 2008 r400 duratec Thanks Steve
  8. White spirit + elbow grease + hard plastic edge or your thumb (not metal or you might slip and scratch something )
  9. Have been the last 2 years with the car but only for static display....don't have any spare tyres / wheels so could'nt get the car home after a day of sliding :-) I'm happy to come along with the car for static....+ I can probaby help out with a bit of marshalling...I will have an 8 year old in tow so any marshalling would need to be ok with him next to me......
  10. Quite a bit of choice......and price range.....I've had a Caterham for 12 years now and until this year I used 2 old duvet covers :-) ...just decided it was time I protected my largest single investment other than the house with something a little more robust..... Finally decided to treat myself and the car with one of these : here Yes they are expensive, but quality is very good and the car almost looks better under the cover 😳 Don't know how to post a picture...if you blatmail me I'll send one along.

Initial thoughts...get yourself booked on a track day...age should be no barrier (although SWMBO might be) 😬 I'll get my coat. By the way, I used to use R13 Toyo 888 on my old supersport...great for road or track (at least for me)
  12. Hi all, In the 7 today for the first time in months. Had the roof on and noticed a noise that haven't spotted before....it sounds exactly like what I think is the fuel pump priming prior to when you initially switch on...the kind of "relatively quiet" whirring, squeeking you get before start-up... but was on all the time - when stationary or moving (although as "relatively quiet" it's harder to hear as the loud pedal gets pressed 😬 although it's still there) Thoughts please : 1) Hood on and not driven for months....the things squeeks, pops, bangs and creaks anyway.... you're paranoid stop worrying 2) They all do that sir 3) Combination of 1 + 2 4) Somethings wrong....start worrying 😬..in which case what do I need to check / worry about ! by the way, it's a 2008 R400 Duratec. Thanks all
  13. e.bay is your place...I have always used this seller and they have multiple widths / thicknesses. here
  14. Rather than 'backup' to the WD, cant you just copy the music files over using copy, paste, thn copy to new laptop ? I don't think there are any firewalls for this kind of copy ?
  15. 1st dropping off at football (said hello as we exited car park) and second dark coloured with roof on about 12.40 in Farnham Common. Great day for a blat
  16. Or even from Caterham themselves ? here
  17. This is the spanner set I wish I'd bought 5years earlier...... http://www.halfords.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/product_storeId_10001_catalogId_10151_productId_173083_langId_-1_categoryId_255215
  18. Quoting Steve Campbell: Ok done. Phew ! The stack would not come out so I eventually used master switch live and earth and the tacho wire was accessible below the stack. What a pain of a job for 3 little wires. Oh well...off for a blat to try the shift lights now Update: DRE lights work...had to scour the archives first and eventually realised in needs to be set at cyls 1 and not cyls 4....now working fine.....yeeeehaaaa

  20. What does it look like 😬 Electricity is not my forte ! and if I did that is there a chance my battery would drain ? What wires on the "out" side could I tap into....if anyone knows the ins and outs I could take some pictures and share ..... so I know what wire to cut ! 😳 Edited by - Steve Campbell on 12 Nov 2011 16:49:06
  21. Well....it doesn't come out....I think I'd have to take the windscreen and scuttle off to get it out...I tried for 20 mins with mirrors, different angles and various levels of brute force...... ☹️ So now I'm looking at finding the right wires outside the Stack that are more accessible for the job in hand...problem is I'm no electrician.... The tiny live green wire for Stack is tightly bunched at the back of the stack wiring so no chance for that....and so are the other earth wires.....I'm trying to fit DRE lights ..the tacho wires seem easy to get at as it has a large loop that I can access.... I now need a live and an earth...earth seems easy..I can just link direct into the earth point near the master cut off.... One thought for live was to try and tap into the heated screen live wire........anyone know if this will work ? Is that wire live all the time even if screen switched off ? What about how does the horn work...is one side of that live all the time that I could cut into ?? it has one black wire going in and one purple wire...assume black is live ? PS I have no testing kit or ability to test what is really live and what is not, HELP...should have taken it to James Whiting to fit ! Now I'm shouting at the car again.....stupid thing.... 😬 Edited by - Steve Campbell on 12 Nov 2011 15:59:54
  22. Will be having another go this weekend....unfortunately didn't get the chance last weekend as the weird and crazy positions you need to get into to actually looking under the dash resulted in a Sunday not able to move and a very sore back !!
  23. Thanks all.......so does it come out from the bottom first.....what's the trick ?
  24. OK...I've removed the 4 *6mm mini nuts underneath that frees up the unit from the 2 alu holding frame things..but it doesn't seem to want to come out ?? It won't come out "straight" as the top of the scuttle blocks it, and it doesn't seem to want to come out if you ease the bottom away first as its too tight ! *confused* Didn't want to use my usual brute force and ignorance in case I split the carbon dash ! Help !
