  1. Remember when the grass is long in the summer you can't see what's coming at the roundabout but Saxo Daz behind may think you can and be surprised when you slowdown / stop 😳 Always remember to re-clip the bonnet after checking fluids (unlike me on my first track day 😳) Smile and wave at everyone who smiles and waves at you..and even those who don't. 2. My old 1997 k ss did have one (retro fitted with Apollo) with no stack dash...my current 2008 R400 with Stack does not...... Steve Campbell Orange R400 Duratec
  3. I think I've got the originals from a 1997 K series 1.6 supersport kicking around if they are any use for this endeavour ? Build Manual and the owners guide. I got them with my last car when I purchased from Caterham South in 2000. Steve Campbell Orange R400 Duratec
  4. Pendennis ... how would I know what kind of wet sump it is ? It's a 2008 vintage...
  5. Just how do you check the oil level on a standard R400 Wet sump Duratech 2L ? Changed oil last night ...and basically replaced about the same as came out (about 5-5.5 litres). There is oil on the dipstick...but I can't say I can see a level and as soon as you pull the dipstick out it all pools to the bottom of the check thingy..... ..oh yeah...and whats the consequences of overfilling ? 😳 ...and on a related topic...what should the normal operating range be for Stack Oil Pressure reading...mine seems to idle at high 30's then can go up to 60's when on the road ?? 6. TPS...what's that ? ..and thanks to Stuart for the blatmail suggesting checking the throttle plate screws (already checked that on the day).
  7. At last a reply...feeling like it was only me 😬 Definitely not the cable. You could get the butterfly to stick with the cable detached (only realised this after playing around with the cable and pedals for 10 mins ) Cable is routed over the top of the engine in a big loop (almost reaches to the nose cone in the loop). When playing the throttle open by hand, you could "sort of" feel it being a little "gritty" just around the opening point. At first thought is was the butterfly catching on something but I think it may have been some crap around the main shaft the hold the valve ? Anyway...it resolved itself after I poured petrol into the "sensor" end of the shaft, wiggled stuff and then wiped the whole thing down. Thats the technical solution anyway. Just concerned it might be early sign of something wearing and needs replaced. Car is only 2 years old though. Thanks for trying ! 😬 Spiderlane...hmmm..possible...I'll take a look. 8. Had an unusual problem today at Abingdon track day. Throttle got stuck open at about 5k rpm. Checked all the cabling etc and that was ok. Seemed that it was the butterfly mechanism (don't know proper name) that was sticking. Took the thing off and the sensor and generally cleaned and poured some petrol through and around it to clean it up and it worked OK for the rest of the day. Just wondering if anyone else had experienced this and anything else I should check or just likely some crap caught somewhere that was washed out with the petrol ?? 9. I topped mine up with a new one of these....took ages but it worked ! here
  10. Spotted this morning on A4 near Brentford and turned left at Gillette corner towards Tesco's. 😬
  11. Still waiting for the Stack Dash instructions.....anyone attempted yet ?? ...took another look under the dash and decided to wait as all those coloured bits of string look a bit daunting 😳 😬 Steve Campbell Orange R400 Duratec
  12. John, looks a great guide....can you buy a new dash and fit it with a Stack and post that guide too 😬 Seriously, had a peek under the dash today to contemplate fitting the lights....hmmm..I think I need an idiots guide for fitting it to a stack dash...WITH pictures ! 13. damn...missed by 8hrs! Adrian....we can't be far apart.....i'm in farnham royal !! Steve Campbell Orange R400 Duratec
  14. No idea if the bulk buy on shift lights will work for Fireblade ...reading the technical data looks like they will cover up to 20,000 rpm. Need to order by 11th June. Not rev counter but worth a look if it's for track day work ? Looks like you set the max and min (when you want the 'bottom light' to come on) and it sets the rest at relevant intervals between. 15. Haven't tried it yet as the track day I went to on Saturday was very very very wet ! Incidentally, can someone confirm what the R400D redline should be set at ? I just bought the change up lights on the bulk buy and was wondering what I should be setting the red light to come on at ?? Steve Campbell Orange R400 Duratec
  16. 7 wonders...err .. I have no idea....I've only had the car a few weeks and don't know much about it yet ! I'm away from UK at the moment so I'll need to check but I think there was some kind of plastic 'catch tank" there ?...something that looked like it would get in the way or touch a longer oil filter anyway....hence the question Can you post a picture so I can compare what mine looks like ? Car is a 2008 2L R400 S3. It was last serviced by Caterham last summer including oil change so I'm assuming it has a Caterham supplied one on at the moment. 17. Hmmm...thanks..I think The 307 looks too big to get in ???...anyone know which of these are "stumpy" versions (saves me looking so I'm just now being lazy !)??
  18. Hi all, I want to change the oil filter on my R400 Duratec. Previous post recommended Halfords HOF 307 as replacement, but the current Caterham provided filter is much shorter than the Halfords one. Anyone know if there is a direct replacement from Halfords or a motor factors, or should I be ordering from Caterham ? Code of the part would be useful if anyone knows it ! Thanks Steve Campbell Orange R400 Duratec
  19. Gave you a thumbs up as you passed....and you turned off onto M25. I was in silver A4 tintop. Steve Campbell Orange R400 Duratec
  20. Doh...now I'm really confused ! As I've bought 10 litres of the 5w50 I'll be trying that as that's what it says in my little book ....are there any R400 owners out there that use Caterham / Comma 5w50 ! I won't notice any power loss as I've only had the car a month and as far as I'm concerned, it's warp speed anyway ! Steve Campbell Orange R400 Duratec
  21. Hmmm...interesting Dave...so the last number relates to viscosity when hot (the higher the number, the higher the viscosity).....so what about the first number and the W ??? Why do you think Caterham specifically say use 0w40 for all cars but 5w/50 for performance and track use ? I presume if you had it serviced / built by them, they would use 5w/50 ?? Slowly building my knowledge of this Duratec thing :-) Steve Campbell Orange R400 Duratec
  22. OK thanks for all replies. Can someone enlighten me as to the difference between 5w30 and 5w50 ? I'm planning on changing the oil to 5w50 as that's what it says in the manual but was just curious. Steve Campbell Orange R400 Duratec

  25. I used a very large and robust screwdriver jammed in to give some leverage. The link above is excellent advice on how to replace ..I followed it pretty much word for word. Steve Campbell Orange R400 Duratec Edited by - Steve Campbell on 23 Apr 2010 12:51:34
