  5. Job done tonight.. Had trouble lining up the teeth on the new belt. ...it seemed half a tooth out but got there.. 😬 Then tightening up the crankshaft pully to 205nm was funny...could not get enough purchase on it...went in for some tea and managed it.. Now of to Arch motors to get some welding done on the rear stubs.. Steve
  6. Nice idea Funnily enough I did that very thing..Only diference was used an old Hayes Manual put below the crashaft pully and then sat my socket with an exension bar fitted on top of it. Disconnected the ignition and flicked the starter...and it worked. Now Oily has worried me into getting a Gates Cambelt so will have to wait to finish the job until I get one. Steve
  7. Redline sent me a QTB584...145 x 26mm....Is that an equivalent.. Thanks. Steve
  8. Hi Decided to change the Cambelt on my 2004 1.8k non VVC. After trawling through the Tech Talk cambelt questions I wasn't sure whether I had a manual or auto tensioner and so rang up redline who supplied me with a CDU2749 belt. Took off the cover this morning and find I have a type B Auto tensioner fitted to the car so I now know the belt is the wrong type...so will have to send this back and get a LHN100560. The rover manual says replace the timing belt tensioner bolt...do I need get one..??.. Finally found the crankshaft pulley bolt incredibly tight.. even with SWMBO sat in the car ,in 5th and standing on the brakes I could not loosen the bolt...will have another go later.. Thanks Steve
  9. Mine showed exactly the same symptoms and found one of the LED's had moved and was lighting the inside of the Optimate and not through the hole so you couldn't see it Steve Northerner in a Nova Violet Brute.S777 XTC Le Mans 2010 here

I have one of these Brake light LED'S which I fitted a couple of years ago underneath the top of roll bar.. Takes all of 30mins to fit. Very handy to check whether the brake lights are working when you are in the car as all you have to do is put your hand in front of the LED'S.. Steve Northerner in a Nova Violet Brute.S777 XTC
  15. Mine exhibited exactly the same at Le Mans 4 years ago.The noise got progressively worse the closer I got home. Engine removed the following weekend and CRB was absolutely shot. New one from Redline fitted in a day .aok.. Stacks of info on here about doing the job if you can. Good luck Steve Northerner in a Nova Violet Brute.S777 XTC
  16. During the Winter layup of my 1.8k I start my 7 most weekends and regularly test whether my thermostat is working by feeling the temp of the bottom hose near the expansion tank. Initially its stone cold then after about 4-5 mins it slowly warms up showing me the thermostat is working..temp on the gauge is about 80-85. Then after another couple of mins the fan cuts in.. V good test to see everything is ok. I also have a T piece near the heater to help remove air locks when Ive had the engine out...v handy. Steve Northerner in a Nova Violet Brute.S777 XTC

  20. Obviously not a 7 problem but I changed an engine recently on an Auto 2.0l Renault Laguna 97 after a cambelt went on the previous engine. All went well and the engine fired up but now the Laguna goes to a safe mode after a short drive. It clears after switching off the ignition but comes straight back. The engine runs very well . Our local Auto electrician is struggling to find out what fault codes are on the ECU and has come back with incorrect Engine which seems odd to me as I checked the serial numbers of the engines and am sure its off an Auto . My mate is not prepared to go to Renault for an expensive test as the car is worth next to nowt. But it's a challenge and we have spent a couple of cold weekends changing the engine only to fail at the last hurdle and I am peed off to say the least. Is there a procedure to reset the ECU..There seems v little info on the web..: Sorry to ask on this forum but I cannot think of a better place. Ta Steve Northerner in a Nova Violet Brute.S777 XTC
